JR, working on a massive canvas we dragged on a 1hr train ride back to Southport.
Gotta love a good Rennie's bargain though.
I was really taken with this view of the farm and fields in the foreground, with the new windmills on the ridge. This windmill project has already begun to produce energy for my small town. I know the technology is somewhat controversial, and my feelings on the subject are somewhat mixed. But it makes a good picture.
I hate seeing these beautiful old Spanish style buildings being knocked down.
Usually you don't notice it. One day it's there, the next day it's an empty lot, a day later it's some fugly box with four times as many units.
More people, more congestion, more traffic, less happiness.
Whatever is built in their place will not add anything more to the city than these buildings have been giving for the past 70 to 80 years.
Every ten years the US Census Bureau administers a public survey to the people of the United States. Information about where and how we live is gathered and synthesized. This information helps officials determine the allocation of shared resources - everything from education infrastructure, to roads and bridges, to hospitals, to political representation. In this year of the census, the Walker Art Center is considering the shared resources of our creative culture, experimenting in the Open Field to help define the parameters and participants in our collective creative culture. In a reimagining of the traditional census, a Commons Census Survey will be administered by visitors to other visitors, by visitors to staff, and by participating artists to visitors. Two desks will be set-up at the museum with stacks of forms and writing utensils. The survey questions will range from the mundane to the unexpected and somewhat personal, drawing out hidden creative resources, energies, connections, imaginings, and thoughts on our shared creative and cultural resources. The results of this survey will be compiled and incorporated into a report that Works Progress will present at the end of the summer.

The starting process of my 3D piece isa woman's head made into a sculpture. The face of the woman is bruised and beaten, objects are placed around her head to show tools are other objects used during domestic violence. My research question is, why are woman the face of domestic violence. This sculpture is pleasing to me already to represent a message that I'm trying to display. I would like to continue work on this piece to make it a final representation of my 3D project and research question.

I caught another bee at work and tried to snap a good shot of it. However, I misplaced my trust in autofocus. Blurry bee . . . really sharp petals.
I then painted the black background using lots of linseed oil to thin certain areas and get some interesting textures in the background as I didn't want it to be a plain solid black. After this step I used some turpentine to get some more transparent and textured parts below the neck as I unfortunately covered it a bit more than I intended to, making it look like a weirdly floating head with the top part out of frame.
