Bird house ornament in progress

A bunch of changes this month; the right aileron has gone all green as has the last of the right wing ribs and most of the flap internal structure. Woo!

Parts shown here in green are complete, yellow are awaiting some final riveting or blending tasks, orange are awaiting primer, and red are works in progress. Uncolored parts haven't yet been worked on.

For more narrative on the project, check out the construction blog.

The progress at the start of Nov 2018

This is Callie, an adorable and tiny little calico! She is one of the kittens from the late fall litter of feral cats that I am trying to help. This teensy little girl is so shy and very reluctant to let me touch her. But last night... she let me pick her up and cuddle her TWICE! Progress!! I'm hoping against all odds to find homes for these babies before winter really gets here.

The most obvious change from last month's progress drawing is that work has begun on the tip fairings. The rudder and elevator fairings are fully fabricated and attached (or attachable in the case of the removable bottom rudder). The horizontal stabilizer tips are in the process of being made, but require some fiberglass layups to complete.

Parts in green are complete; parts in yellow are primed and ready to be riveted together, but are still separate; and parts in red have been worked on but are still incomplete. The exception to this is fairings that are yellow are already riveted in, but are not yet blended in with the metal skin.

a building i've been walking past on my way to work. i'm enthralled by demolition.

From early rail tracks to today’s cars, The Lesner Bridge has been a major factor in transportation for the northern part of the city. The current renovation to the bridge is well underway and progressing well, all while keeping this important artery open.

I submitted this today for Liz Kolb's "Picture on the Fly" mobile photography contest. The theme this time around is "progress."

Progress on my triangle quilt that I am making for my baby boy due January 2015. I deviated a bit from the original design, since I am making a baby sized quilt.

Every day I ride the Brown Line and pass the Spirit of Progress statue in the distance, atop the Montgomery Ward & Co. administration building. I've vowed to get a photo of it, and today I finally got off at the Chicago Avenue station to get the shot.

Ward built his phenomenally successful catalog business here in Chicago. We Chicagoans have Ward to thank for the only uncluttered lake front of any Great Lakes' city. Ward tirelessly fought with politicians and builders to keep the parks and beaches undeveloped. The fight continues without him to this day, with the current brouhaha over the proposed move of the Children's Museum to the edge of Grant Park [resolved in the park's favor in 2012].

Almost all Montgomery Wards buildings incorporated a version of the Spirit of Progress (often a relief carved into the building, rather than a statue), holding her torch and sword. This statue, modeled on one by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, stands 22.5 feet tall, atop a 4 story tower, which, in turn, sits on the eight story Wards administration building. The building was designed by Hugh Garden, and completed in 1908 (the tower was added in 1929

The current City Hall building is a near-50-year-old structure that has served the city well but, in its current state, is functionally obsolete. Built in 1969, the current City Hall requires major renovations that are complicated by the presence of friable asbestos and the way the electrical and mechanical systems were installed.

On October 3, 2017, Virginia Beach city council unanimously approved a resolution to proceed with the design of a new city hall building. The new three-story structure adjacent to the current city hall, between Buildings 1 and 2, is under construction and progressing well.
