On December 9, 2016, the Arboretum and Public Garden had the opportunity to welcome a group of students from a journalism program in Visalia CA. The aspiring young journalists had the opportunity to interview our Museum Education & Interpretive Manager- Maya Makker, GATEways Outreach Students- Vivian Le and Rachel Le and our Outreach and Leadership Program Coordinator- Melissa Cruz.

The Seabiscuit program took place on August 2003 at Countryside.
Seabiscuit's former jockey lives locally and he described the world of thoroughbred racing in the 1930s when Seabiscuit was the “all-star” of all time. He shared a scrapbook filled with his racing career highlights and shared many memories. The library was filled to capacity that day.

•La convocatoria 2016 de esta iniciativa, entrega una bonificación especial a las mujeres, con el fin de disminuir la brecha de género; y a quienes quieran perfeccionarse y sean de regiones.
El Ministerio de Energía, en conjunto con la Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica, CONICYT, desarrollaron el lunes 2 de mayo la presentación de la sexta convocatoria del Programa en Energías, Concurso Programa de pasantías en el extranjero para investigadores y profesionales del sector público y privado, cuyo objetivo es fomentar y fortalecer la adquisición de competencias, y potenciar la formación de capacidades en instituciones internacionales de primer nivel en el ámbito energético.
La actividad, que contó con la participación del Presidente del Consejo de CONICYT, Mario Hamuy; el Director Ejecutivo de la misma institución, Christian Nicolai; y la Subsecretaria de Energía, Jimena Jara, se desarrolló en dependencias de CONICYT, y estuvo orientada a dar conocer esta iniciativa a través de exposiciones que relataron la historia del Concurso, y de experiencias exitosas, narradas por los mismos beneficiarios.
Durante la jornada expusieron el Jefe de la División de Prospectiva y Política Energética, Javier Bustos, quien se refirió a la Política Energética y entregó los lineamientos técnicos del concurso; el Director (s) del Centro para la Innovación y Fomento de las Energías Sustentables (Cifes), del Ministerio de Energía, quien realizó la presentación “Desafíos en el sector de las energías sustentables”; y del Director de la Agencia Chilena de Eficiencia Energética (AChee), Diego Lizana, quien expuso “Desafíos en el área de la eficiencia energética).
También estuvieron presentes relatando sus experiencias, Carolina Cuevas, líder en investigaciones marinas en la Fundación Chile; Patricio Valdivia, quien se desempeña en la Gerencia de Capacidades Tecnológicas de Corfo; y Juan Pablo Blanco, quien actualmente trabaja en el Instituto Fraunhofer Chile, pero que en el momento de la pasantía lo hacía en el Centro UC de Innovación en Madera.

Jefferson Lab developed the next generation of SRF accelerator technology based on the new material niobium-tin (Nb3Sn). After decades of work, the first prototype niobium-tin cyromodule with two CEBAF-style SRF Nb3Sn cavities completed its qualification test in the Cyromodule Testing Facility (CMTF) at Jefferson lab.
The once-in-half-a-century milestone represents the beginning of a new era of SRF technology for particle accelerators and potentially many other scientific instruments.
