From How to Read an [Expository Writing] Assignment:
"Discuss" is easy to misunderstand because the word calls to mind the oral/spoken dimension of communication. "Discuss" suggests conversation, which often is casual and undirected. In the context of an assignment, however, discussion entails fulfilling a defined and organized task: to construct an argument that considers and responds to an ample range of materials. To "discuss," in assignment language, means to make a broad argument about a set of arguments you have studied.
•Franciscan Boys Home – Bethlehem
Boys, 6-18 years of age, live at the Franciscan Boys Home six days a week and return to their families on Sunday. The boys come from dysfunctional families residing in Bethlehem and receive psychological and emotional assistance. The FFHL runs the home for boys in a caring place where neighborhood youth can feel the safety and nurturing needed to survive.
FFHL has hired a full time staff which includes a cook, several teachers, a child psychologist, a social worker, a housekeeper, a club supervisor, as well as maintenance and security personnel. Both a Franciscan priest and a Franciscan nun serve as Directors of the Boys Home. The boys come from many local communities including Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, and Beit Jala, and attend the local Catholic school. The costs of salaries of staff, food, maintenance of the building, and yearly school tuition are fully funded by the FFHL.

Roo, febrero 3, 2012.- A través del programa social denominado "Contra el Calentamiento Global", 425 alumnos de la escuela primaria Año del Centenario de Quintana Roo, ubicada en la región 227, recibieron las pláticas de Salvemos al Planeta, las cuales comenzaron el día martes 31 de febrero y culminaron el día de hoy con la participación de los estudiantes de 6to grado.
Durante la clausura, el secretario del interior de la sección 35, Noel Pinacho Santos, destacó que de acuerdo a la agenda nacional que promueve el secretario general de la CROC, C. Isaías González Cuevas, se llevan a cabo conferencias mensuales en escuelas de nivel básico y medio superior, con el propósito de informar y concientizar a la comunidad sobre la necesidad de cuidar nuestros recursos naturales, para ayudar a resarcir los problemas relacionados con el cambio climático.
Por su parte, el director del plantel educativo, Prof. Juan Javier Canché Chí, agradeció a los integrantes de la delegación 8, por compartir su conocimiento sobre el cuidado del medio ambiente, asegurando que el calentamiento global es un fenómeno que nos afecta a todos, por lo que es responsabilidad del ser humano hacer la parte que le corresponde como habitante de este planeta.
Para concluir su intervención, el director brindó en conjunto con el equipo docente y alumnos, un fuerte a plauso al equipo de Asesores Sociales de la CROC y por supuesto a Noel Pinacho Santos, a quien otorgó un reconocimiento por su dedicación a l cuidado ambiental.
The visitors spent their last day in Knoxville at Jefferson Country High School where they attended math, science and literature classes, sang and danced with the choir, ate lunch in the cafeteria, and played basketball in the gymnasium.
To conclude their visit, the Mayor of Jefferson County presented each visitor with an honorary citizenship of the county and welcomed them back any time they wished.
Kids playing games at the Summer Fun Program. The free day-camp is provided by the City of Anderson Parks and Rec. department and serves low-income families. While in past years activities centered around board games and arts and crafts, physical activity is now a major focus. Through collaboration with the local school districts, all three of the program's sites provide free and healthy lunches to participating children. The Parks and Recreation staff also use their connections with local farmers to supplement the amount of fresh fruit at lunch.

A Prefeitura de Ferraz de Vasconcelos recebeu equipe da Secretaria Estadual de Desenvolvimento Social (SEDS) para reunião de apresentação do Programa Família Paulista, uma semana após encontro que aconteceu na sede da secretaria em São Paulo. Primeira cidade que receberá o programa, Ferraz sediou a reunião na manhã desta terça-feira 1º de outubro no gabinete do prefeito.
Estiveram presentes na reunião diversas autoridades e técnicos. Entre eles, os secretários municipais Francisca Henrique de Oliveira (Promoção e Desenvolvimento Social), Silas Faria de Souza (Planejamento), Juracy Ferreira da Silva (Saúde), Valéria Eloy da Silva Kovac (Educação), Fabio Cruz de Sales (Esporte), Cláudia Braz Marzagão (Diretoria Regional de Desenvolvimento Social – Drads Leste), a arquiteta Natália Domingos Silva (Planejamento) e Elisabete Bento, presidente do Conselho Municipal de Assistência Social (CMAS) de Ferraz de Vasconcelos, além de representantes dos Centros de Referência da Assistência Social (CRAS). Todos receberam informações e diretrizes do Programa Família Paulista, cujo principal objetivo é o enfrentamento da pobreza extrema no estado de São Paulo.
Coordenadora de Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (Cosan), Ligia Rosa Pimenta, com apoio da secretária adjunta de Inteligência e Conteúdo, Maria do Carmo Brant Carvalho, apresentou os critérios, a definição das diretrizes e da metodologia a serem aplicadas, os instrumentais a serem utilizados, bem como o apoio à gestão do programa no município e as formas de financiamento.
