Work Rules! is good, but man, I'll never work at Google after reading that. Not that they'd hire me, but still.

The Go Programming Language is a nice book. Richie was probably a better co-author for Kernighan. Or perhaps C is just nicer.

Top programming languages in the world (Java, PHP, C#, Python etc)

The book Generative Design describes the creation of images by using codes. An image is not created manually, but instead by translating a visual idea into a set of rules and then implementing it in a programming language. Such a program can not only create a single image but also design complete visual worlds when parameters are changed.

We, the authors, want this book to provide a solid foundation for the use of this process. The book section โ€œBasic Principlesโ€ illustrates generative techniques in relation to four foundation areas of design: color, shape, typography, and image. The designerโ€™s repertoire is further expanded in the section โ€œComplex Methodsโ€ by combining a number of principles on the basis of six larger-scaled examples. In this section you will also find explanations of advanced techniques.

In addition to providing codes, this website is intended as a forum for communication between users of the book and the authors. Let us know by commenting if something does not work; of course, we are also glad to hear if you enjoyed something in particular. In the gallery section we encourage a lively exchange of information concerning your enhanced programs and pictures. Among the links you will find all the projects discussed in the book as well as the references.

I went along to a local meetup tonight for a computer programming language, Ruby on Rails. I have been away from programming for quite a long time, but I have some personal projects that I am getting my hand in again. I am a total noob, but there is so many community assets / tutorials / and people to help, that I am feeling pretty good about it. I am actually enjoying the process of coding again, and the world has certainly moved on since this "grey hair" last cut code in anger.

I also just stuck a Banksy decal on my mac.

Wilfried Houjebek wrote a geospatial algorithm in the โ€œBrainfuckโ€ programming language. After initialisation by a random coin toss the algorithm sends the user on a algorithmic tour. For historic reasons Wilfried chose the Royal Observatory as the starting point. From here our group was sent on a spiraling course towards Point Hill.

During the walk electromagnetic energies were recorded with an ELF receiver.

At Point Hill we planted undeveloped film sheets for thoughtographic experiments and hid measuring devices for logging high frequency energies. Also some intuitive drawings were made to record the atmosphere.

From there we went back to the center of London to interrogate the London Stone.

===========================

A .walk into computational darkness, Tuesday the second of August 2010. [15.00-17.00] at the entrance of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park.

It is hard not to feel sympathy for Martial Bourdin, the clumsy anarchist (aren't we all?) who tried to bomb the Lon/Lat HQ of the English Empire in 1894 (i.e. the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park) and who is forever ridiculed in Joseph Conrad's novel The Secret Agent.

(Wikipedia writes about Joseph Conrad [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Conrad] that despite the complexity of his novels, Conrad in his private life was predominantly conservative. Who could have ever thought.)

The bomb in question exploded near target in Bourdin's face. He died 30 minutes later without mentioning his name. It is presumed that he was planning to destroy the clock ticking to centralized time. A just cause as time, which obviously does not exist, is a deadening tool of artificial concensus reality.

The Royal Observatory is also where, between 1765 to 1925, the Nautical Almanac Office employed scores of human computers to compile and calculate tables of astronomical data. In of those tables, the 'Nautical Ephemeris for Finding Latitude and Longitude at Sea' Charles Babbage found over a thousand errors. The invention of the mechanical computer, Babbage's Difference Engine, was inspired by the desire to diminish the number of ships wrecked at sea caused by faulty data.

The Royal Observatory is also where the London Psychogeographic Association went looking for ley-lines but of course ley-lines are just pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo that nobody needs. Say no to the tantric fellow travellers! Say no to the psychogeographers of yore!

The Dark Heart of Codeness / a pedestrian code experiment starting from the Observatory / human computers will run walking codelets / a "stillness of an implacable force brooding over an inscrutable intention" (Conrad) will haunt the .walkers at every step untill they will succumb crying in a whisper at some image, at some vision "a cry that was no more than a breath: "The horror! The horror!""

Chart of number of fucks per programming language.

Python is a widely used high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability, and its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than possible in languages such as C++ or Java. The language provides constructs intended to enable clear programs on both a small and large scale. ;-)

Rear Admiral Grace Hopper conceptualized machine-independent computer programming languages. She is credited with popularizing the term "debugging," which originated with the removal of an actual moth from the circuitry of a computer.

Scientist Valentines

The kids play a game based on the kid's programming language, Scarths: you have building blocks you use to build a program: the aim here is to get your frog to catch as many beetles as possible

The programming language FORTRAN was born in 1957.

More precisely, the first FORTRAN compiler was released in 1957.

This is a screenshot (actually, an actual photography of a computer screen on film) of some of my first humble graphics programming experiments, programmed on a HP3000 computer in FORTRAN - this was back in about 1984 when I learned programming. My interest in computer graphics eventually led to the development of HOP in the early nineties

ASCENSION: An Interactive Installation

----------------

The Project

Willpower (William Ismael) + Carrie Mae Rose collaborate in the duo FLUID THUNDER for the interactive projection mapping of the tetrahedron winged computational fashion installation at Eyebeam (Art + Technology Center in New York City).

----------------

The Process

Carrie Mae creates hand-built wing structures out of wire tetrahedrons and fabric. Willpower codes 2 animations in Processing, which is an open-source programming language, development environment, and online community. He uses Leap Motion, which is a sensory technology, detecting human hands and fingers. He uses a Processing Library by onformative (a studio for generative design based in Berlin) called LeapMotionForProcessing to use Processing seemlessly with Leap Motion. Willpower attaches his interactive human generated animations to the Leap Motion sensor. They follow a person's hand movements in real-time and on key with accurate precision. The public interacts with the installation by activating the wings through their physical movements.

----------------

The Story

The animation displays beams of light representing solar neutrinos and the love we have access to at all times. Wings symbolize aspiration and ascension. The light is symbolic of angelic light coming from realms above, shining down to inspire and remind us that we are pure love in our hearts. The bubble eruptions represent both the thunderous fire energy residing inside our human forms and the Big Bang Theory that we are all becoming lighter and lighter each moment in time throughout our expansion into infinite space.

----------------

The Experience

Human beings generate the art on the angel wings by moving their hands. They become part of the art. They create the art. An ongoing 3D generative animation is mapped behind the wings. An interactive animation generated by people is mapped onto the wings. Without human movements, no animation is created on the tetrahedron angel wings. We include you to be part of the art because it is about us. It is about the interaction between the artists and the visitors. We communicate and transcend messages which are experienced beyond just looking at a piece by making you a co-creator of the piece. It is about us coming together and interacting in the space with 'others' we may have not engaged in a conversations with otherwise. It becomes an unique shared experience.

DESCRIPTION

This is one of the first successful printouts of a program written in the computer programming language COBOL. After COBOL was proposed and described in 1959, programmers at Remington Rand Univac and at RCA wrote compilers that translated COBOL commands into machine language. They also wrote test programs to demonstrate the language. Like later COBOL programs , this one was divided into four sections.

The first identified the program and gave the name of the programmer. The second section, called the environment division, presented information about the specific machine used, such as the computer model, and locations to be used for different files. The third, or procedure, division was independent of the computer. It gave a series of statements about what the machine was to do. Although commands resemble ordinary English, the words used had very specific definitions and equations could be written using mathematical symbols. Finally, the data division defined the information to be processed. This data was entered so that it could be used in several programs, as in later database management systems. Successfully compiling a program produced a printout with each of these sections, as well as a listing of the desired results.

This printout of the first successful COBOL compilation at RCA relates to inventory control. One page is marked in ink: Good output โ€“ 8/17/60 (/) (isnโ€™t it beautiful) (/) not really [the not really is crossed out] (/) well almost.

Python is a powerful, expressive programming language that's easy to learn and fun to use! But books about learning to program in Python can be kind of dull, gray, and boring, and that's no fun for anyone.

Python for Kids brings Python to life and brings you (and your parents) into the world of programming. The ever-patient Jason R. Briggs will guide you through the basics as you experiment with unique (and often hilarious) example programs that feature ravenous monsters, secret agents, thieving ravens, and more. New terms are defined; code is colored, dissected, and explained; and quirky, full-color illustrations keep things on the lighter side.

Chapters end with programming puzzles designed to stretch your brain and strengthen your understanding. By the end of the book you'll have programmed two complete games: a clone of the famous Pong and "Mr. Stick Man Races for the Exit"โ€”a platform game with jumps, animation, and much more.

We're introducing Time Language all over the world. Time Language is the world's language consisting of numbers that anyone in the world can easily use. Time Language frees us from foreign languages. Now, there is no need for interpretation and translation. Time Language is pronounced in the language of each country and the meaning is the same. [000t0=Time Language, Copyright 1974. T.H. @interface and @implementation

Integrated circuits, for sale at any number of large online app stores, are really compiled, optimized, object code. They often are packaged in "black boxes" conforming to a limited variety of widely documented @protocols called "pin layouts". Shown above is an @implementation inheriting from the class ADVoltageReference that conforms to the SOIC-8 protocol. It outputs 3V for virtually any input voltage with a 2 ppm/ยฐC error. A single instance costs about 12 dollars.

Matching .h header files are called datasheets; they describe the objects' required inputs, the outputs under normal conditions, and the situations under which the output is unspecified or consists of smoke and maybe some fire. Some of these .h files show a photograph of the source code---the physical layout of silicon, metal, and insulators that make up the transistors, diodes, resistors, and capacitors of the integrated circuit---but they are by no means open source.

We mortals provide the @interface for these objects in the form of printed circuit boards that route appropriate inputs, outputs, and other external components together. Code reuse is encouraged, and highly scalable.
