This screening includes visual artists from Ukraine and Moldova, two countries that share a Soviet past and are experiencing similar cultural, political, and social transition. To offer a comparative perspective from the position of outsiders, two U.S. artists, who made their work in Ukraine and Belarus, are also included.

Positive notice in the April 25, 1922, edition of the Dayton Herald of Dayton, Ohio (my home town):

Jimmy Casson and Fred Klem stopped the show yesterday with their piano and song act. There are few programs today which do not include such an act, but also few which are so fortunate as to obtain two such entertaining artists. Casson does the singing, for the most part, although Klem is well able, as he demonstrated, while he does the piano playing, and how he can play.

Casson's songs are of a variety which win applause, and his personality such as to win audiences at once. Klem's accompaniment is excellent and his solo work splendid.

PA Program -Clinical training classes and presentations

People of all ages came to the library to tinker with electronics and learn new valuable skills.

The Library Codelab: Intro to Programming class is hard at work writing out their first program. This class was held in honor of STEAM month and taught by library staff. This class used no computers to teach computer science concepts, such as: logic, programming languages, and more. Students created programs such as "Going to the Gym" or "Alert me when my car has less than a 1/4 tank of Gas." This class was held at Plaza Midwood Library on Tuesday, October 1.

Join Charlotte Mecklenburg Library for STEAM Month each October - a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

8.5x14 Poster

Bilal, a 17-year-old Kurdish refugee, has struggled his way through Europe for the last three months, trying to reunite with his girlfriend, who recently emigrated to England. But his journey comes to an abrupt halt when he is stopped by authorities in Calais, on the French side of the Channel. Left with no other alternatives, he decides to swim across. Bilal goes to the local swimming pool to train, where he meets Simon, a middle-aged swimming instructor in turmoil over his imminent divorce. Simon agrees to help Bilal, hoping to win back the affection of his wife, who does volunteer work helping immigrants. But what begins as a relationship based on self interest, develops into something much bigger than Simon could ever have imagined, as he too will ultimately risk everything to reach happiness.
