District program and project managers for the DoDEA Europe Schools program discuss 21st-century school construction with Brig. Gen. William H. Graham, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division commander, during a tour of the Kaiserslautern High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The construction is 60 percent complete and the school is scheduled to open for the 2018-19 school year. The facility will have a green roof, clerestory windows and skylights for natural lighting. Sustainability and energy efficiency are hallmarks for 21st-century schools, according to Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). The building is designed to use 30 percent less water to save more than 300,000 gallons of water per year and to consume 54 percent less energy, which should result in an anticipated annual energy cost saving of $182,000 for the life of the project.

The School of Education and Human Performance held its first annual Beginning Teacher Support Program on June 15th, a program designed to connect with and provide support to recent graduates within their first three years of classroom teaching. Sessions that focused on Surviving the First Year of Teaching and Integrating Technology into the Common Core Curriculum were offered as professional development. Over 20 students attended the event. Future events are being planned for Homecoming and Spring 2013.
Of particular interest: The Beginning Teacher Survival Guide session offers new teachers a variety of helpful hints, resources, suggestions, and strategies to tackle the ever changing classroom environment. Topics include data driven decision making, Common Core Standards, infusing technology, problem based learning, writing grants to support instruction, classroom management, Professional Learning Communities, and parent/community relations. A Beginning Teacher Survival Guide wiki-space provides participants with an assortment of ready to use lesson ideas to begin the new school year with an interactive and energized approach. Additional review games ideas and resources are also included in the wiki-space to facilitate review sessions for beginning teachers while keeping students actively engaged and focused on learning targets regardless of the grade level or subject area.

Matthew Weiner is a screenwriter, director and producer born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Los Angeles, California. His first major writing and producing breakthrough was with the HBO series 'The Sopranos,' where he was a co-executive producer on the sixth season in 2006 and an executive producer in the sixth season in 2007, and received solo or joint writing credit for twelve episodes. Weiner completed the pilot spec script for the show 'Mad Men' in 2000, and it was picked up by AMC network for its first of seven seasons in 2007. Under Weiner's direction as head writer, showrunner and executive producer, 'Mad Men' went on to win four Golden Globe awards and fifteen Emmy awards before its final episode aired in spring of 2015. Over its seven years the show received consistent critical acclaim for, seemingly, every aspect of its production -- from costumes and set design to acting and writing across several seasons. Weiner has also been a professor of screenwriting, at USC's prestigious School of Cinematic Arts.

After some time off this series for other work and travel, I spent the week chipping away at this second large sketch to be translated as a vector art piece.
It is now well over six feet high and becoming cumbersome to photograph.
Maybe a desert landscape...Lots to learn on this program, but anyone that loves Linework as much as I will love it...Endless possibilities with brush sizes and colors...Amazing time waster!! A LOT OF FUN!!!!!
