Une salle entière est consacrée à une installation qui date de 1971 : “Frappez les gradés” par l’artiste Julio Le Parc. Il s’agit de sacs de frappes utilisés dans les sports de combat pour l’entraînement mais qui vêtissent cette fois les traits de corps de métiers de pouvoir. Le public est par là invité à donner coups de pieds et de poings aux journalistes, policiers, directeurs, chanteurs… et se libérer de sa haine contre certaines professions.

These are punch bags used in combat sports for training but this time clothe the body traits of power trades. The public is thus invited to kick and kick journalists, police officers, directors, singers ... and free his hatred against certain professions.

Le nouveau palais des khans de Khiva construit dans la première moitié du XIXè siècle. Toutes les pièces et les murs des cours intérieures sont décorés de majolique et les plafonds de bois ornés de décors peints. Ces colonnes de cèdre à la forme si particulière sont typiques de l'architecture traditionnelle ouzkek.
Pour l'anecdote : le khan exigeait que son palais soit terminé en deux ans. L'architecte eut l'audace ou l'inconscience de lui dire que c'était impossible. Fort mécontent, le khan le fit empaler. En ce temps-là, les architectes les plus réputés étaient très recherchés, couverts d'or, mais c'était une profession a haut risque.
Son successeur fut sans doute plus prudent. Il faudra tout de même dix ans pour que le fastueux palais de Tash Khaouli, dernière résidence des khans de Khiva, soit achevé.

Conocido como “El Cementerio de los Ingleses”, fue inaugurado en la localidad alicantina de Dénia en 1856 para dar sepultura a náufragos, comerciantes, marinos o simples visitantes que falleciesen en la ciudad y que no profesasen la religión católica.
Este peculiar camposanto llegó a albergar 14 tumbas antes de caer en el abandono y ser víctima del vandalismo. Hoy en día es muy difícil acceder a él, ya que los caminos de entrada al cementerio han desaparecido debido a la vorágine urbanizadora de finales del siglo XX.
La vegetación y las malas hierbas se han adueñado del interior del recinto. Sólo quedan dos sepulturas reconocibles: un monolito que recuerda el enterramiento del niño de poco más de un año de edad Reginald Rankin, en diciembre de 1865; y la tumba de una mujer llamada Harriet Wallace-Willoughby, en la que se puede leer que estuvo casada con George Wallace y que falleció el 1 de abril de 1869.
Known as “The Cemetery of the English people", it was opened in the town of Denia (Alicante, Spain) in the year 1856 to bury castaways , merchants, sailors or simple visitors dead in the city and did not profess the Catholic religion.
This particular cemetery came to house 14 graves before falling into disrepair and be vandalized. Nowadays, it is very difficult to access to it, as the entrance to the cemetery paths have disappeared due to the urbanizing maelstrom of the late twentieth century.
Vegetation and weeds have taken over the interior of the enclosure. Dinali, Linda, whomever else is reading, here is the only other shot of the little bird we have been trying to identify. As you can see, it really has the shape of a chickadee but none of the members of the flock that was hanging around had any really distinctive marking like that species.
Dinali, I don't mean to disagree with you but this just doesn't look like a species of swallow to me, the wings are too short and the legs are too long.
This one is a puzzler...
UPDATE: I'm pretty sure that this is a bushtit but I have a lot of votes for it being a titmouse. Therefore, I'm leaving this up to the audience for two reasons:
1. I don't really know what it is and could not make a viable argument for one side or the other.
2. I just don't really care. I shoot birds because I like to look at them and their exact species is really not that important to me. Just as Stephen Colbert professes to not see "color" in people, I do not see species in some birds ;-)

Junius is trying to distract him with a new arrival of Greater Carpet Ambush Beetles, who nest in deep lush carpets and are notorious ankle biters.

I will never profess to understand the decision making of the modern railway and still believe BR made a better job of it with a lot less money.
With DB Cargo currently experiencing a major locomotive shortage class 66's they long term leased to DRS 3 years ago have suddenly turned up in the last couple of weeks back on DB Cargo services. Initially we were told this was a short term "hire in" arrangement but I suspect the hire contract with DRS may well be curtailed permanently. Of the five locomotives involved only two seem to be in use namely 66 091 and 66 126. 66 031 is stopped at Toton requiring major attention and both 66 108 and 66 122 are held at DRS Kingmoor TMD having not turned a wheel in over a month. I suspect the next move will be de-branding so those in DRS livery will end up like 90034 in plain blue livery with DB stickers. I guess at least these five were just hired to DRS pity the same didn't apply to the 10 sold to GBRF 5 years ago. With class 08's and possibly 8 class 92's also set to make a come back its a funny old world to work in at DB land at the moment.
Anyway in the small hours of April Fool's Day (how apt !) 66 126 stands on the up goods at Warrington Bank Quay with 6L35 the 17.41 Mossend Down Yard to Dagenham Dock Sidings, a DB Cargo service.

Rimane, ad esempio, il fatto che la cucina greca non è che sia proprio digeribilissima: ma buona, Gaviscon mon amour, insomma. Quindi l'hotel con vista parco e vista acropoli (ma solo dal ristorante o dal tetto: buono per l'estate, con la piscina all'aperto, un po' meno a dicembre: in Grecia ed ad Atene in particular fa caldo, ma le sere d'inverno son comunque fredde) probabilmente sapendolo, propone cucina internazionale, d'alto livello e abbondante e, per chi sceglie à la carte pure il sushi, che comunque, tra chi sceglie à la carte va fortissimo: è da notare infatti la presenza molto molto risicata di ristoranti giapponesi di cui ne ho in mente solo uno, su uno stradone vicino a Gazi che però si professava più cinese che nipponico.
Ma noi, tra la colazione a buffet e la cena che si preannunciava abbondante, a pranzo abbiamo pure osato una coppa di gelato presa su un tavolino con vista porto turistico al Pireo in una gelateria che aveva come claim “vero gelato italiano”. Gelato sugli standard italici più che accettabile, anyway, e quella zona lì chissà d'estate che temperature raggiunge e quanto casino che c'è: una fortuna andarci a dicembre, in effetti.
Grande tradizione panificatrice e un sacco di catene tipo Princi a Milano o Majer a Venezia e vasta scelta di dolci anche nei bar e in localini take-away per la strada. E ogni giorno, sulla strada per piazza Syntagma, la tentazione di una torrefazione che lanciava zaffate di caffè nell'immediata vicinanza e, insomma, bisognava accelerare il passo per non restarne (probabilmente piacevolmente) intrappolati. Che poi si dimenticano tante cose, ma gli odori, te li ricordi per un bel pezzo. Ecco cosa resta.
I don't profess to be a macro person, it's just not my forte. But waking up this morning and sitting in front of my laptop, sipping coffee, checking out Flickr of course, I look out the deck and just couldn't pass this moment in time up. There was a torrential downpour last night and everything was extra dewy this morning. It just seemed like a fantastic opportunity to test out my 40 pancake DoF and bokeh.

Ayant étudié seul la mécanique, il met au point, en 1801, le métier à tisser Jacquard, dit métier Jacquard[1]. Dans la continuité des travaux de Jacques de Vaucanson, il équipe son métier d'un mécanisme sélectionnant les fils de chaîne à l'aide d'un programme inscrit sur des cartes perforées (que l'on doit à Basile Bouchon). Il devient ainsi possible à un seul ouvrier de faire fonctionner le métier à tisser, sans l'assistance d'un tireur de lacs (emploi généralement tenu par une femme).
Le 12 avril 1805, Napoléon rencontre Joseph Jacquard lors d'un séjour à Lyon. Quelques semaines plus tard, le 27 août 1805, Jacquard reçoit, de la part de l’Académie de Lyon, le prix des inventeurs. À partir de cette date, il accumule les prix d’honneur et les récompenses[2]. Le 17 novembre 1819, il est fait chevalier de la Légion d’honneur et en 1826, il est nommé conseiller municipal d’Oullins.

Le métier Jacquard, qui a inspiré Charles Babbage, est souvent présenté comme l'un des ancêtres de l'ordinateur, il ne fait pas à proprement parler de traitement de l'information mais c'est la plus ancienne machine programmable.
I have been working on this series for a bit over a year now, and still do not profess to be very good at it, but I am learning. Composing these type of shots is an interesting exercise. After all, how do we normally compose photographs of really nice clouds? Usually by including in some terrestrial element such as a landscape, a building, people, trees, what have you. And that makes a certain amount of sense, it anchors the frame, gives the viewer a point of reference so they are not just floating through the picture.
But what about composing without any terrestrial elements at all? This has been a bit challenging to learn. Obviously the normal rules of composition do not necessarily apply and you have to learn how to anchor a scene without such objects.
I guess.
But then, maybe like my sandscapes (and another on-going series of waterscapes I am building) perhaps you don't need a point of reference. Maybe the pattern of the abstract is the point and trying to reference that only distracts from that which you are trying to convey.
As I said, I am learning this as I go along. It has been a fun and interesting challenge. I started with sunset and sunrise clouds, but lately have been feeling more comfortable branching out to daytime clouds and even dusk and nighttime clouds. Though my first attempts at photographing night clouds was not so successful. But that is ok, I learned, and there will always be more clouds.
I don't profess to be an animal or insect photographer in any way and I have great admiration for those who produce such great images of animals and insects, it is not easy ;-) Won't you just hold still for a few more seconds... nope... gone :-)) I was lucky with this one as I think he (or she) was bored with flying around and wanted to take in some sun :-))
Shot in South Africa on "Safari", actually we saw more than just butterflies there but I'm not confident that any of the pictures are that great.
