This is an iPad painting, made with a beta version of iColorama, and a touch of Enlight. I used several of Susan's images as sources to do this. I also used a page from a journal by Paul Klee.

I wanted to start a series of portraits of some of my favorite actors, and I figured I would start with one that had a lasting impact on me as a young movie lover. From being the host/father of the almighty "Alien", to bringing monster stories to life as that wonderfully magical "Storyteller" with his ever faithful dog from the original Jim Henson series...While not forgetting his amazing "victim" portrayals (who actually rise higher than the system that victimizes them) as in "1984" or in "Elephant man", John Hurt is an Actor's Actor. He's done it all.
I finally found a photo that sparked my creative juices and strived to capture his very characteristic and unique likeness. I tried to find that sweet spot between rendered and looseness in different areas of the painting. Hope you enjoy! As usual, Ipad and Procreate.

The idea here was to have an unfinished look to this piece.I figured i'd do an old school pencil drawing not completely painted over to emphasize this concept. At the same time a good opportunity to show the range of traditional styles you can achieve with the sketching Protools from 1.6

trying to teach myself to animate in procreate on the iPad, it's very very short and not very interesting but I think I have the gist of it.
Drawn in Procreate on the iPad. The hair was a fun challenge.
