I've been playing with some different post-processing techniques, trying some combinations of things I don't normally do. That's the best way I learn, to experiment and play and see what comes out. I went back to some photos I took a few months ago at Antietam Battlefield and used this as a starting point.
This was a shot where I personally liked the composition but the colors and details in the original weren't all that interesting. I originally took bracketed shots (which I normally do for sunrises/sunsets), so I combined the bracketed shots but kept the compression and processing in the middle of the road. Next added a graduated filter, a bit of saturation (a tad more sat added just in the shadows) and boost of vibrance. I re-leveled the exposure then added a touch of "glow" to soften the shot w/o ruining the sharpness and finished it up with a slight vignette.
A bit more work than I usually put in on a shot and it certainly has flaws, but like I said, it's sometimes fun and educational to try things and see where you end up. You never know when you'll discover a new combination of processes that work well and it'll become something you might reuse later.

I have replaced the image with a brighter one. The first image looked ok on my screen but was way too dark on all other screens...

in the process of making this coat. this is a 'pinned' trial run to learn how to make it, using a cotton/polyester sheet bought from a local charity shop £3. i downloaded the pattern. however when i started to make it yesterday i had no instructions. i was sure i had read them when i first downloaded the pattern but i searched and nothing :(
i worked on it yesterday, took it apart this morning, had another go and this is as far as i've got ...
my mantra is 'front to front', but i've ended up with a 'back' facing section at the front!
i'll take it apart again tonight, with each attempt something falls into place but this coat could take some time !
irst attempt flic.kr/p/2p5pjSx couldn't find the instructions
second attempt flic.kr/p/2p5Lj5m a very bad day! no idea :(
third attempt flic.kr/p/2p5UQ9W an improvement
fourth and final attempt flic.kr/p/2pfCoFU assembled and machined
the coat flic.kr/p/2pgnJRW
i've yet to buy the fabric for the finished coat. i'll be making sure it doesn't have a pattern and an added bonus would be if front and back of the fabric were the same:)
UPDATE!
i've just found the pattern instructions www.sewmag.co.uk/free-sewing-patterns/serena-wool-coat#lo...

Three shades of change spotted in a field in the English countryside.
Myosotis (from the Greek: "mouse's ear") is a genus of flowering plants in the family Boraginaceae that are commonly called Forget-me-nots. Its common name was calqued from the French, "ne m'oubliez pas" and first used in English in c.1532.
There are approximately fifty species in the genus, with much variation. A considerable number of the species have small (1 cm diameter or less) rather flat, 5-petalled blue flowers growing profusely on straggly stems, flowering in spring. Color variation is somewhat frequent within species, and white or pink forms are common. They are popular in gardens, and cultivated forms often show a mixture of colours. Forget-me-nots prefer shade.

So some of you have asked me about this. Here is the process. Read from left to right, top to bottom. Everything is done by me during down time at work.
I started with sketches and concepts. I would like to visualize the design as much as possible on paper first. This is the most crucial step which helps a lot with modeling later. Here I only show the final sketches but these are just a small portion of what actually went on paper.
Second step is to start modeling! When I have a basic idea of what the design looks like, I use a program called Alias Auto Studio to visualize the 2D drawings into 3D. I modeled everything, no premade 3D parts. I also did some computer rendering of the design to test out some color choices.
When all the parts are done on 3D. I use my 3D printer to print them out. Final step is to paint! The grey you see on the last photo is the primer. I usually do 3-4 coats of primer, and sanding in between from 150 grid to 400 grid, before moving on color paints.
The whole process takes about 1 month for sketching, 3-6 months for modeling ( depends on how many hours I have free), Printing all the pieces takes about 350 hours on the printer. The result: the model is 5th scale, about 100 pieces, and eats up about 600 hours so far.
