Here's a graphic showing the results of the various stages of processing images of Jupiter using Canon DSLR -> Lnykeos stack -> Registax wavelets -> Photoshop touch up.

Don't like the artifact that shows up.

Still trying to figure out how to best stack frames from Quicktime (MOV) movies. I'm using Lynkeos on my Mac to do so. Too bad you can't use Registax on an MOV file. Will try out Keith's stacking s/w soon. Otherwise, I think my best option will be to use VirtualDub to convert MOV to AVI in a lossless manner. That creates such a huge file, so I shied away from it. Need to get over it. I could use Castrator to trim the movie for Registax.

The Livermore rodeo is history this year. Cowboy has been put in storage. But at least he can make an appearance in XPRO film.

One of the most fun projects I've worked on this year so far. A commissioned piece on the side of a shipping container located right across from my studio at 1000 Parker in East Vancouver. This piece called 'Bricks' is for Powers Construction.

The project came in fast and furious but I still took the job because I have a very soft spot for murals and especially when I get to go shopping for new paints.

Big thanks to my wife Denise and my friend Kenji for assisting me. Could not have done this without their help. This piece was done in 2 full days using Montana Gold spray paint, Frogger tape and DTM paint. Primed with two layers as base coat prior to painting. The approved art concept was executed freehand. No projectors or grids used to execute.

Stay tuned for a full behind the scenes video.

I created a little application that displays the [latest, greatest, etc.] color themes from Kuler. See kuler.adobe.com/#themes/newest?time=30 for a look at what Kuler is. (It is an Adobe web service for designers and collectors of color swatches.)

Changes: bluer sky, darker grays, increased whites in clouds, contrast boosted with corresponding increase (higher) exposure created blacks in shadows.

Every now and again, I revisit code from many months ago and end up finding GLARING ERRORS and POOR CODING STYLE and after fixing these problems, the code runs exponentially faster than it used to. The ripple code was one of those projects.

Originally, I rendered the ripple array directly to the screen, and I was able to get away with about 60x40 squares. After playing with it a bit recently, i realized that I could simply define a color array and use arraycopy to copy it over onto a PImage that i then use to render out the ripple information.

Whereas I could do 1 plane of 60x40 elements before, now I could do 500 planes with alpha intormation at the same FPS as I was getting previously.

Just goes to show, revisit old code!

Having an idea, figuring out how and setting it up, is at least half the fun of macro photography.

The explosion of the first frame is an effect in Corel VideoStudio. The five following explosions are programmed in Processing

. With Processing you can write code that manipulates the pixels of an image [among other things]. By varying the code subtle differences can be produced as shown in this video.

The original illustrator stencil for the green face painting. The image was made from a heavily transformed photograph in photoshop.

It was then put into illustrator for live tracing. The process went back and forth until the correct detail level was reached.

Playing around, I came up with a version of my Seagull shot I like maybe a little better...
