The most usual possible problems with aged Taxonas are:
- lower speeds not working (only B and one single speed);
- all speeds are one speed quicker (!) than normal (1 sec > 1/2 sec and so on);
- sticky lamellas of the aperture;
- cocking needs more force than expected;
- fungus;
- the sprockets tear the film perforation.
For most of these reasons the camera must be dismantled anyway (exception: fungus removal).
Note that these problems rise mostly from the neglect of decades: the camera repair manual at hand speaks about other kind of problems and repairs, mostly from heavy use (broken springs, mechanical problems etc). Here I hope I will meet only the problems listed above.
In order to get through to the shutter mechanism, it will be necessary to peel the leatherette both side and remove the lens group (see in a next picture). Remove the two screws from the 2 levers (pictured here) and set the shutter speed to B. Find and remove the 3 little screws on the two sides of the cover plate (2 on the left, 1 on the right). Open the back of the camera and remove the 4 screws holding the shutter block. Lift the right side of the cover plate ans slide it to the left. Pick up the shutter block.
The staff and students of Taylor’s University Lakeside campus clearly are early risers as the basement parking is only left with 2 available bays at 8.15am on a Monday morning. This daily occurrence takes place as staff members have to be at work before 9am and some students have classes at 8am.

This is in the back of the house...near the hole in our bedroom floor. This was the WORST part of the foundation...apparently the beam back here was completely rotten thanks to the presence of a bad planter.

Ryan and I have a serious problem: we fear nothing.
Ok, so that isn’t exactly true, there are plenty of things that we fear individually and collectively. However, we have noticed that we are a little less fearless than maybe we should be. I blame this on the fact that we are working in Mathare Valley, which, remember, is a slum. Working every day in a slum tends to give one a false sense of security. “I work in Mathare, what could possibly happen to me?”
The other day we were sharing a shortcut to the airport that we discovered by ourselves. When we told our friends the roads we took, they looked back slightly shocked, explaining that the road goes right through a slum.
Ryan and I looked at each other, a look that said, “Really, cause I felt just fine on that road…”
This is a stone wall that extends from the sill of the house. I was stupified by why on such a cold night, the base of the stone wall is so warm. I was convinced that this was because there is a leak in a radiator in that wall, but I found no such leak under the floor board. I still haven't figured this out, perhaps it could be just the conductivity of the stone, but I doubt it.
