1. My computer froze and 2 Western Digital (WD) hard drives died simultaneously.
2. I pay DKK 8000 to rescue the data from the most important drive and reject the offer to rescue the other drive for DKK 150.000 (in UK). It suddenly became very unimportant for me.
3. I borrow the rescue company's drive with my data home and transfer the data to another WD drive I have.
4. 2 days later, that drive also dies.
5. I buy 2 x 1TB WD drives and one 250GB mobile WD drive.
6. I transfer the data to the new mobile WD drive and back up the data to the two TB drives.
7. One day later the new mobile drive dies as well and by accident I knock over one of the new TB drives and kill it instantly.
8. Deadcount = 5. I let go of WD forever.

Sigh. Remember the other day I mentioned I had found some sensor dust on my D800. Well, today I got home, where I have the “industrial” size blower and I went to town on the sensor to clean it, and then my worst fears came true. It appears it’s not dust, it may be that sensor oil issue others have found from the manufacturing process (it’s believed the mirror or shutter action flings oil onto the sensor). So tomorrow I’ll have to take steps to get that oil off the sensor. Seems to be a common problem with Nikon’s pro SLRs so I’ll start with a Visible Dust wet cleaning kit rather than put my camera into Nikon’s service centre in Mississauga. Last time I did that with my D200 it took almost three months to get it back and I’ve got photos to take in the meantime.
The photo above is a composite from four images. I took the photos in sequence using the stop down and defocus technique for spotting sensor dust in between. I aimed the camera at my white drapes. Other than cropping out a 6 megapixel image out of the 36 megapixel sensor it’s unmodified from the camera. Yay.

Nachdem unsere Weltenbummler sich aufgrund von Problemen mit Wetter und Visum für einen Flug nach Indien entschieden hatten, freuten sie sich umso mehr darauf, in Neu-Delhi wieder auf ihre Expeditionsräder steigen zu können!Laut, chaotisch und viel zu voll. Radtouristen haben oft gehörigen Respekt vor dem Verkehr in Indien. Dabei gehören Zweiräder dort wesentlich selbstverständlicher zum Alltag als bei uns! Ob Rikscha-Taxis, Verkaufsstände oder persönliches Transportmittel – Inder sind an Fahrräder im Straßenverkehr gewöhnt und auch unsere Abenteurer konnten problemlos auf Hauptstraßen oder Autobahnen radeln.
Ganz falsch sind die Vorurteile allerdings nicht. Auf unserem TX-400 fuhren Tine und Tommi vorbei an Dreck und Gestank, ausgetrockneten Flüssen und Tieren, die auf Müllhalden grasten. Trotz den Umständen, die den beiden im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes den Atem verschlagen haben, haben sie sich die Freude am Radfahren nicht nehmen lassen. Als fröhlich grüßende Fahrradtouristen sah Indien gleich viel freundlicher aus! Gutes Essen, eine fürsorgliche Mitbewohnerin im Hostel und ein aufregendes Stadtleben haben die beiden positiv überrascht.

Auf dem Highway reihte sich das TX-400 dann zwischen Ochsenkarren, Reisebussen, Affen und überladenen Lastenrädern ein und Tine und Tommi waren mittendrin im indischen Straßenverkehr!
Unser Expeditionsrad ist somit offiziell chaoserprobt und brachte die beiden sicher durch den Tumult Indiens nach Nepal. Von dort geht die Reise weiter Richtung Pokhara. Wir wünschen den beiden jede Menge schöne Erlebnisse und freuen uns auf den nächsten spannenden Bericht!

No artsy fartsy stuff this time. I'm not sure if anyone reads this, but I'd like to write this down anyway...
Friday I developed two rolls of film (in 120 size). I don't really have a darkroom. I use a film changing bag in the batroom to load the films in the tank. The loading of the films to the spiral was a struggle. It's quite hot now and I was sweatting quite a lot. The sweat made the inside of the changing bag very humid and the film started to stick to the plastic auto load reel. After developing a found that the loading was almost fine... But I had a few wrnkles on one of the films.
Today I took the item on the picture... A cheap tabletop fan... And set it behind me before loading the films. It kept other parts of my body cool and even if the changing bag got quite hot my hand were swetting a lot less. The loading was a lot easier!
Sometimes the solutions are quite simple!
Oh... The picture is digital... I used a manual focus 55mm f/1.8 lens for bokey background... May that be the artsyfartsy part today. :D
