This photo is taken using Kodak Z8612 IS. This camera is not for someone who is a basic point and shoot user. I am having problems with this camera. The images are not sharp, too bright during day time, colors are not crisp and bright. The photos have a dull feel to it. I hope some serious amature can solve my problem.

The problem with this picture is, that you probably should not enlarge it. The quality was so bad after scanning, that I first wanted to just throw it away. But it somehow liked the thumbnail view. So, how was this masterpiece of junk done?
- First of all I took an old Minolta SRT-303b with broken light metering
- Macro + Freelensing technique (the lense was not mounted at all, but held close to the camery body with the front pointed to the body. If you tilt it to one side you get this unsharpness at one side. see also: lukeroberts.us/2009/12/freelensing/)
- Shoot an old, expired colour Film (Ferrania Solaris 200 - white balance was probably made for holidays in Italy)
- Develop it in Coffenol-C (this made it a black&white picture, but also introduced these huge, noise-like artifacts. I need to experiment a little to remove this effect).

Este miércoles 13 de agosto, en el Liceo Bicentenario de Viña del Mar, se dio inicio al curso Ajedrez: Estrategias para la Resolución de Problemas, que organiza la Casa del Deporte de la Municipalidad de Viña del Mar, junto al Área de Educación de la Corporación Municipal.
La primera clase ofrecida por el GM Iván Morovic, secundado por el profesor Raúl Molina, contempló el estudio de los fundamentos del juego y el análisis de partidas miniaturas de ajedrez.
Los docentes, con esta jornada, han empezado un proceso, que al cabo de cuatro meses, les permitirá convertirse en monitores certificados por la Federación de Ajedrez de Chile, con miras a implementar el deporte ciencia en todos los establecimientos municipalizados de la comuna.
La enseñanza sistemática del ajedrez tiene como propósito el desarrollo del pensamiento, la enseñanza de valores y el facilitar hábitos virtuosos del carácter. Se ha asociado al ajedrez con aspectos importantes del pensamiento científico: capacidad de observación, organización de datos, técnicas y métodos para el abordaje y toma de decisiones.
Los docentes recibieron un texto guía y además de las clases presenciales, podrán acceder a tutorías vía email para consultas y asesorías en relación a la capacitación.
El curso se extenderá hasta noviembre de este año.
There's definitely too many motorbikes now in Fuzhou, and in china in general. These people drive them like crazy. I saw someone driving today and they just managed to screeetch to a stop infront of a child. The trouble is they're so small they can fit onto the paths and anyway people can. With the roads as busy as they are here you find people whizzing around on the paths instead of using the roads. In a nearby town, Xiamen they managed to ban motorbikes and scooters entirely from the city due to this problem.
children are always tricky subjects for photographing, especially if they're not yours. beside the fact that they can move really fast, there's always a fact that their parents are somewhere near and watching you taking the picture, looking like a pervert in this sick sad little world. well, guess the both problems disappear after years of photographing
Spring is officially here I guess. I've had Robins set up shop on top of the lamp on the front of the house now for probably 10-12 years. This year's guests appear to be quite bold! It's always fun to watch them raise their young.... even if it's a pain to clean up in the fall. :-D
After a year long partnership with Friday Night Live and the Department of Problem Gambling, the Teen Producers from the Advanced Teen Producers Project traveled to Disneyland in Anaheim to attend a 3 day long festival spotlighting the 21 participating sites and their video projects.
We drove up on Monday and drove right into the festival activities. Our students presented a workshop to teach fellow attendees about production roles and why they are important on a video shoot. We then went back to our rooms and changed for the Spotlight Festival red carpet event where student projects were premiered in front of an audience of over 200 fellow students filmmakers from across California. Awards were presented to the standout projects and everyone enjoyed a delicious catered dinner and desert. We then had a little time to explore downtown Disney before heading to bed.
Self-introduced Galahs, a very pretty but pesky parrot, are taking over a great number of nest sites in the Perth region. Natural trees, artificial nest boxes, small, large, vertical and horizontal, if they can fit in (or chew their way in!) they will attempt to nest in it. While this may not seem like a problem, Galahs are aggressive nesters and will chase away and deter other species (who are local natives) from breeding (You can read more about this topic on my blog here:

This is a problem for threatened species of Black Cockatoo, for which this very large, vertically-orientated nest box was designed. Even though an 'open roof' is meant to favour the cockies and not suit galahs, it hasn't bothered this pair who have filled the box with Eucalypt leaves and laid eggs. As a 'biodiversity conservationist' I removed the eggs and destroyed them - let's hope they don't re-nest.

Six months ago I lamented the problem with giant rats within the NY Subway system and on the streets above; today in Manhattan the problem persists. Look how big the rats are, they even walk around with perfect posture and carry shopping bags !!
Rats are so commonplace that non-tourists in New York don't even seem to care.

There is some discussion about MacBook gaposis. I thought I'd document mine. The machine has performed perfectly for me for about ten days, so I'm reluctant to take my chances on repair/replacement, but it has noticable gaps in three places: The left and right edges of the keyboard platform, and the top of the screen bezel above the iSight. And I figure that if this is a manufacturing defect, it's better to get in on it early rather than late, before it worsens. So it's shipping back to get checked out.
Het bovenste deel van de zendmast in Hoogsersmilde is vrijdag ingestort. Er was brand uitgebroken in de televisiemast. Het is onbekend of er gewonden zijn gevallen. Aanwezige brandweermannen waren op veilige afstand.
Het vuur ontstond rond 13.50 uur door nog onbekende oorzaak, meldt een woordvoerder van de brandweer. Het blussen werd bemoeilijkt doordat het vuur op zo'n honderd meter hoogte woedde. De brandweer is met groot materieel uitgerukt.
De stroom is van de toren gehaald. Daardoor is het niet mogelijk om naar RTV Drenthe te kijken. Ook kan in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe en in delen van Overijssel niet naar de publieke radiozenders worden geluisterd en is er geen digitale etherontvangst mogelijk van Nederland 1, 2 en 3. Kijkers en luisteraars via de kabel en de satelliet ondervinden geen problemen.
