With Mr. Ravi, the head of Samata... voted yound entrepreneur 2009 by IIM Lucknow for his contribution to the social sector and unending fight for tribal rights and dignity.
At 43 years, he had ideas more innovative and fresh than those we have heard from people half his age.
Thank you for everything Sir!
As part of our ongoing commitment to tackling neighbourhood crime and making our city centre a safer place, a number of our teams carried out proactive operations targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, leading to a total of 14 arrests.
Officers from the Town Hall Neighbourhood Team carried out a mixture of late-night policing operations, with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers, across the Chinatown area. This proactive operation led to six arrests, mostly in relation to the possession and supply of drugs.
As well as these arrests, officers executed multiple stop searches across the area as part of ongoing work to keep the community safe. This involved addressing loud music being played at late hours, tackling anti-social behaviour, and disrupting drug use in the area.
Our City Centre Neighbourhood Team also conducted proactive patrols across Piccadilly Gardens, leading to two arrests in connection with drugs and public order.
Sergeant Jack Lenihan-Smith from the Town Hall Neighbourhood Team said: "The city of Manchester hosts a number of activities throughout the day and is home to such exciting nightlife experiences.
"Our priority is you, and as you enjoy the day with family or friends, it is our focus to ensure you can do so safely. From the early hours of the morning, to the late hours at night, our officers are deployed across the city centre to protect you.
"Our work doesn't stop here and we will continue to proactively patrol these areas and work with local communities to ensure we are providing the protection you need. We encourage anyone who may have questions or concerns to please approach us, we're always happy to help."
Alongside the neighbourhood teams, Project Servator were deployed in the city centre throughout the week.
Project Servator are our dedicated team aimed at disrupting a range of criminal activity, while providing a reassuring presence for the public.
Across the week, they secured six arrests, demonstrating our continuous efforts to reduce criminality across Manchester and ensure resident and visitors can have an enjoyable and safe time.
Several of those arrests were wanted individuals, who were identified by our Live Facial Recognition technology, which was deployed to Piccadilly Gardens.
Sergeant Lee Keefe said: "These arrests showcase the impact of Project Servator. We are deployed across Greater Manchester and use highly visible and unpredictable tactics to disrupt criminal activity while providing reassurance to the public.
"We all play a role in the safety of our communities, and we ask people to stay vigilant, speak to officers, and report anything that doesn’t feel right. We will always listen and act on your concerns"

Currently, the disbursal mechanism of all the fellowships and scholarships has several problems causing inordinate delay and massive hardships. Students do not deserve to suffer because of bureaucratic red-tapism, administrative insensitivity and inefficiency. A corpus fund must be created by the university for the purpose of doing away with the inordinate delays in disbursal. .
Proactive steps towards alleviating educational deprivation of minorities delineated by several government instituted expert committees should be initiated by JNU. .
Foreign students face inordinate delay in receiving their final degree after completion of their course in JNU. The process of issuing degree to foreign students must be expedited, so that their carrier prospects elsewhere are not affected. .
GSCASH and EOO: The paucity of funds, staff as well as volunteers is inhibiting the effectivity of GSCASH. GSCASH needs basic infrastructure like its own Xerox machine to maintain confidentiality of its functioning. So as to evolve an institutionalized method to ensure basic gender sensitization among new and continuing students, the Academic Council should form guidelines to incorporate gender sensitisation as a mandatory lecture series/ programme to be conducted through each centre in the first semester itself. Similarly, the EOO office has to be revitalized so that it can act strongly upon any instance of discrimination or violence based on caste or religion. .
Overall Campus Security: In light of several incidents of harassment and molestation (especially by outsiders), the overall security mechanism in the campus has to be overhauled. Round-the-clock security has to be provided at vulnerable points, like 24x7 dhaba and on the lonely strip from Brahmaputra hostel to the Ad Block bus stop. Moreover, the communication system between guards often is completely non-functional. GSCASH representation should be ensured in the campus security committee. .
Infrastructure and Facilities .
JNU Press: In view of JNUs national and international repute, it is imperative that JNU adopts a proactive policy and starts publishing the quality research of its own student scholars and faculty for wider dissemination under its own emblem. This will not only make many of our important research contributions, hitherto under publicized, easily accessible but will also act as a stimulating intellectual incentive to students and faculty alike in all future research endeavours. .
Construction of Hostels and Democratizing Hostel Allotment Rules: A severe hostel crisis continues with large number students awaiting hostels almost till the end of the second semester. Therefore, the construction of new hostels should be taken up on a priority basis. Interim arrangements for accommodation must be initiated right now so as to avert a massive crisis at the beginning of the next semester. .
The dubious policy adopted during the tenure of the previous DoS about segregation of single and double-seater hostels and creating centralised pool of single-seaters must be reversed. Also the red-tapism invoked in hostel change must be removed. The centralized pooling system should be done away with, so that students can get the hostel of their choice. .
Construction of School Annexe buildings must be expedited to solve the existing problem of paucity of classrooms. .
Improved Library Facilities: In 2007-08, the JNUSU had highlighted the massive corruption and deficiencies in the management of library facilities as a result the Chief Librarian was suspended on corruption charges, and more student representation and participation in the process of procurement of books was ensured. This process has to be strengthened. .
Book purchase and cataloguing requires serious engagement, as latest books particularly in sciences, social sciences, area studies and languages are hardly available in our library. A comprehensive package to revitalize the library facilities, procurement of new books and better utilization of library funds has to be evolved with proper student representation. .
The under-utilised 8th floor of the library can be converted into an additional cyber library/reference section. .
Dholpur house reading room should be expanded and its facilities upgraded. .
Revitalisation of Career Counselling and placement Bureau. .
Recruitment of Teachers: For a long time now, the entire JNU community has been demanding quick recruitment teachers and staff, keeping in mind legally mandated reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates. However, the JNU administration has been dilly-dallying on this demand. As a result the academics of the university have been suffering. This situation cannot be allowed to continue any longer. .
Health Centre and 24x7 Health Care Facilities: After a long protest and hunger strike, the JNU administration had procured a proper 24x7 ambulance. However, the health facilities continue to be abysmal, and the committee (under the chairpersonship of the then Assistant Dean of Students) is yet to submit its recommendations and act on them. .
The health care facilities have to be upgraded on a priority basis with provisions of basic diagnostic facilities, anti-venom injections and other services. Gynaecologist must be present every day. removal of bed bugs and anti-mosquito spray be regularised. JNU should also make arrangements with adjacent hospitals and nursing homes to provide facilities to JNU students at concessional rates. .
Proactive and holistic steps to address rising dog population and cases of dog bites: It is suspected that various bodies like the MCD and also some individuals occasionally dump stray dogs from other parts of Delhi in JNU. JNU administration will have to ensure that dogs from outside are not dumped in the campus, that the dogs on campus are .

I need to be more proactive with my pictures and descriptions! Really as a set of two, I shot these in the back garden a couple of weeks ago whilst basking in the glorious sunshine we ahd in sheffield!
I enjoyed using the shadows tool in the RAW inport through cs2 and tweeking the WB.

A week of intensified activity across the region took place as part of the national Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action, delivering visible policing, targeted enforcement, and strengthened community engagement in response to local concerns.
Neighbourhood teams across all 10 districts carried out proactive operations aimed at tackling the issues that matter most to residents, including anti-social behaviour, drug dealing, shoplifting, and vehicle crime.
Throughout the week, officers executed warrants, conducted hotspot patrols, and disrupted criminal activity, alongside working closely with partners and communities to address longer-term problems.
Across Greater Manchester, neighbourhood officers delivered a series of targeted results, including:
Proactive patrols in led to the seizure of vehicles and e-bikes linked to anti-social use, responding directly to concerns raised by residents.
Plain-clothes operations targeted drug dealing, resulting in arrests and the disruption of organised criminal activity.
Officers dismantled cannabis farms after acting on community intelligence, removing illegal drugs from neighbourhoods.
Additional patrols and enforcement activity in key areas such as Manchester’s Northern Quarter were deployed to address issues raised by residents and businesses.
Alongside enforcement, neighbourhood teams prioritised engagement with local communities, recognising its vital role in building trust and preventing crime.
Neighbourhood policing continues to play a key role in reducing crime across Greater Manchester. Over the past year, neighbourhood crime has fallen by 15% across the force, alongside significant reductions in burglary and vehicle crime and increased enforcement activity.
We have made it our priority to reduce and prevent the crimes that matter most to our communities. In 2023, we guaranteed that every district ward has a named local police officer which can be found and contacted via our website, and that we will tell our communities the work we are doing through our community engagement service Bee In The Loop.
Our proactive crime-fighting his has meant that since 2021 we have reduced burglary by a third, vehicle crime by a quarter, and are bringing to justice 100 shoplifters a week.
Every area of GM has neighbourhood tasking teams (NTTs) to proactively tackle crime, neighbourhood crime teams (NCTs) to bring offenders to justice, neighbourhood policing teams (NPT/NBOs) to patrol our streets and ensure community safety, and a prevention hub to solve problems and reduce crime.
During the week of action, Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson visited neighbourhood policing teams in Stockport and undertook a warrant in Woodley aimed at safeguarding a potential victim of cuckooing.
Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson said: “Neighbourhood policing is not merely a nice thing to have; it is an essential cornerstone of our operating model. It means we can manage recurrent demand such that we can simultaneously respond effectively and quickly, investigate crime properly and bring people to justice.
“This important cornerstone of policing has enabled GMP to perform as we have done over the past five years with a year-on-year improvement, which is thanks to the officers we have across Greater Manchester in their dedicated neighbourhood policing teams, supported by PCSOs and our wider partner agencies who have made a difference to people’s lives.
“This week has showcased the dedication of our neighbourhood teams – from proactive patrols and enforcement activity through to meaningful engagement with residents, businesses, and partners.”
Three roadshows were held in early April across Northern Ireland to encourage local churches to proactively support schools in their communities.
“The two constants in any community, no matter how small, are the local church and the local school,” said Dr Andy Brown, who chairs the Transferor Representatives’ Council, which organised the events in Lisburn, Coleraine and Enniskillen. The TRC speaks for the Church of Ireland, Presbyterian Church, and Methodist Church on education issues in the region.
The best approach, Andy Brown related, is for churches to pull their sleeves up and “go in and give, and ask for nothing in return.”
At each event, a local principal shared some ways in which transferor governors strategically, practically and pastorally help their schools from looking around creatively for funding sources, to helping families to find assistance with living costs. Small things that can make a big difference – an end-of-term box of chocolates, or remembering to ask a teacher about their well-being when they’re under extra pressure.
The three Churches transferred most of their schools into state control in the mid-20th Century. Whilst there is a clear missional opportunity and rights are enshrined in legislation to promote, maintain and defend our schools’ Christian ethos, Dr Brown reminded attendees that churches are there to serve our schools and communities.
The TRC oversees the appointment of over 1,500 governors to controlled schools and readers can find out more about its role at trc-churcheducation.org

As somebody who has actively participated in the process of the formation of GSCASH and in the subsequent struggle for an.
autonomous and strong GSCASH it was with dismay that I observed the functioning of the student representatives in the last.
committee. One of the representative made a mockery of the trust reposed in her by the students by not attending a single meetingor taking part in any of the activities. In fact she left the campus soon after the elections. The other student representative failed to.
ensure a responsive functioning. Through the year there has not been any action taken on any of the major cases. The trauma.
for one who faces harassment only begins with the act. The subsequent period of time, the process of reporting, inquiry is usuallymarked by a tremendous pressure on the victim. The failure of the last GSCASH to ensure time bound inquiries and to takeaction against the perpetrator has resulted in a situation where many of the cases were simply withdrawn. .
But most importantly GSCASH has failed in its task of sensitizalion. The understanding inherent in GSCASH is that the task of.
sensitization is as important as that of remedial action in cases of sexual harassment. The fight against sexual harassment does notbegin or end simply with its redressal. Sensitization, debates on gender are important to evolving a proper and informedunderstanding. Only a change in the prevalent stereotypes or straitjacketed social roles of women and men would effectivelyprevent sexual harassment. And it Is in this area of sensitization that failure of the last committee lay. .
One reflection of this has been in the recent trend on campus of responding to incidents of harassment through violence. Prior to.
the information of GSCASH the response to an incident of harassment used to be through the mobilization of the students, demanding action from the administration. This has changed in to mob violence. The response to harassment through violence isnot only condemnable, but also excludes women from the sphere of action. This too I would lay at the door of the last committee,.
for its failure to create a more 'gender sensititive campus, where men and women both have equal space. .
A lot of the debate during the GSCASH elections last year united on 'male victimisation'.This last year has proved these fears to be.
unfounded -there has not been a single case filed with GSCASH with the aim of victimising men or settling scores. The task ofGSCASH is not to threaten one section or to created conflicting situations. On the contrary, it aims at destroying the unequal powersituation the two genders. .
Gender is an issue with a politics of its own. The struggle for ending oppression and discrimination on the grou~ds of gender mustbe fought as a part of a larger struggle against other inequalities that operate in our society-exploitation on the basis of class, caste ,religion, region etc. These struggle must be waged democratically. The GSCASH therefore is both an important achievement aswell as an instrument to carry on our fight for gender equality. .
What is needed today is a GSCASH which Is responsive to the students, provides a community support system tothose who face harassment, and is accountable to the JNU community..
What it needs is to activate a team of volunteers who will be a part of this community support system. Help those who faceharassment and be available in any emergency and who will take forward the task of sensitisation..
What is needed is a Gender Sensitisation committee, which will work among students through interactive workshop, skits anddiscussions. Not just a couple of seminars with a few big names..
What the GSCASH needs is a panel of doctors, lawyers, counsellors to equip it to deal with all possible kinds of situations..
And it needs to undertake some programme to sensitise the security on campus on how to deal with an incident ofharassment and such situation. .
What we need are student representatives who are sensitive to gender issues and accountable to the universitycommunity! ' .
