Just playing in the press room with the mixing of process ink. I used cyan, magenta, yellow and transparent white in this series.
NOTE: the ink shots are named for the order that I shot them. The higher numbers are the same ink, just more mixed than the lower numbers.
The printing press was designed by German businessman Johannes Gutenberg using wood and metal to press ink into paper. - "He who first shortened the labor of copyists by device of movable types was disbanding hired armies, and cashiering most kings and senates, and creating a whole new democratic world: he had invented the art of printing." (Carlyle 1833, p29)

A printer, with his ear defenders on his head, checks a copy of Guardian Weekly. The bottom edge of the book is against some buttons which contol the ink across the width of the paper, and he is looking at a dispay which shows the amount of ink being applied to the press.

''This press is historically significant by its connection to John Graves Simcoe and his administration in Upper Canada. Before leaving England in 1791, Simcoe recognized the essential need for a printer. To organize a society in the wilderness, to promote settlement, communications and trade in the interests of the King, Simcoe engaged the services of one Louis Roy of Quebec to be the first King's printer for the new province. Roy brought his type and press with him, and on April 18, 1793, Roy issued the first number of the Upper Canada Gazette, at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake), the provincial capital.''
