The first stop for my Pearl was the Garage. She sat in the garage for a week or so. Then she moved up to my studio with the help of a few young strong neighbor guys. All for the price of beer.

The Power of the Printing Press, one of a series of York Murals, was painted by artist Alan Wylie. During the Revolutionary War, the primary means of communication was the printed word, and with Continental Congress in York, need for a printing press grew urgent. In 1777, the Philadelphia firm of Hall & Sellers moved their press, once owned by Benjamin Franklin, to York, the capital. Printed here were continental currency, the Proclamation of the First Thanksgiving, the Journals of Congress, the Pennsylvania Gazette, and other congressional documents.

Here is my Adana 5x3 Press, it's the smallest of the mass produced Adana press range, although, years ago an even smaller one was produced which had a internal chase size of 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" !.

I use the 5x3 mainly for personnel cards, small labels and tickets

Demolition of the old Light Machine Shop (formerly Fosters / Claytons foundry buildings). August 1957. Under enlargement it is just possible to discern the name 'Joseph Foster & Sons' cast into the side of the water tank at far left. The date is somewhat indistinct but could be 1862.

This printing press has a very big wheel to it. I think I need to find a pirate eyepatch to wear whenever I print with this.
