Today I decided it was time to print out all those articles I've accumulated for my research. I don't read articles well on the computer screen. I like to pick them up, take them around, mark on them, etc. etc.
I also lose my place easily on the screen.
I have this handy dandy organizer box with the hanging files to sort them into categories...
Now I just need to read them and organize all the findings into a research plan that I can use.

I can print about 30-40 sheets with a bottle of bubble jet. I have only printed on 100% cotton, but have read that people have success with silk and acetate.
UPDATE: I printed on some silk charmeuse and although I love the print quality and clarity, the Bubble Jet darkened the color of the fabric. Luckily, it's not an issue for this particular project, but beware!
ALWAYS do some tests!!
Some fabrics will bleed through, and some will not take the ink. The thinnest, cheapest muslin fits best through my printer, and there's no bleeding.
I pre-wash 5-10 yards of muslin in the washing machine using hot water with soap so there'll be no shrinkage surprises later from the cotton. You can print on unwashed cotton just as well, though. The surface is a little smoother if it's unwashed and I'll use it that way if shrinkage later is not an issue.
I tear off smaller pieces to work on as I need 'em, and iron to flatten. Keep a cardboard template of 8.5 x 11 inches so you can easily cut printer sized sheets. Pieces that size are not so stable- the fabric wants to stretch a bit- keep an eye on the weave, and pull it into shape as best you can.

I am totally jacking this great new screen printer all in one to expose my plain jane old school screens. Works like a charm, exposure time is about 7 minutes with Ulano Screen Emulsion. So much better than a 500 watt bulb, which takes 45 minutes. I am extremely pleased since I did not want to get caught up buying all of the yudu products as I already have a bunch of screens, squeeges, etc.

This is my personal printer. Look at that beastly hunk of machinery, and compare it with the standard-sized computer tower next to it to get an idea of how huge it truly is.
HP LaserJet 4M+, 26MB of RAM, with the duplexer unit (for two sided printing) and the 500 sheet paper tray on the bottom. 600DPI and 12PPM. Black and white only, but when do I ever print color documents? J4100A JetDirect card with 100MBit ethernet. Entirely user serviceable, and probably good for a few hundred thousand more pages. Pages cost fractions of pennies to print, far cheaper than inkjets with their tiny, yet ridiculously expensive ink cartridges.
I was a wee little child when this thing rolled off of the assembly line in 1994, and it's still going strong.
They sure don't make printers like they used to.

Je crois que ces blocs servaient à espacer les lignes de caractères à imprimer. Ils ne semblent pas avoir été utilisées récemment!

A type of printer that utilizes a laser beam to produce an image on a drum. The light of the laser alters the electrical charge on the drum wherever it hits. The drum is then rolled through a reservoir of toner, which is picked up by the charged portions of the drum. Finally, the toner is transferred to the paper through a combination of heat and pressure. This is also the way copy machines work
