I had the honour to shoot Aleks, Tina and Hanna while doing some areal acro on a beautiful sandy beach in Thailand's little paradise called Koh Phangan.
Title of photo: Photo #1 and #7
Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
Emphasis: the big tree is the focal point in this photo, even though the background is a bit cluttered from the other trees the big tree stands out from the rest.
Movement: there is an implied movement from the branches on each of the trees.
Balance: This photo is asymmetric because it is balanced from all of the other trees in the photo but both the right and left are not exactly the same.
Repetition: the repetition from all of the branches in this photo leads the eye through the photo
Contrast: the difference in the size of the trees creates emphasis in certain parts of the photo
Unity: a visual harmony is created from the black and white and from the trees being together in the photo
Line: The main line is a diagonal line from the big tree, which leads the eye though the photo
Colour: The black and white makes the photo stand out more and makes you look at the details in the photo more.
Shape: the shape of the trees creates more depth throughout the photo
Form: the light in the photo makes the trees standout and look more 3 dimensional
Space: there isn’t much negative space in this photo but the little negative space there is surrounds the big tree to make it stand out
Texture: This photo has a very rough texture, created from the bark on the trees and the branches all through this photo.
Tone: the light makes the branches look almost black compared to the grey of the tree trunk
Objective 4: Lighting
There is back lighting in this photo because the light is coming from behind the object
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
Resized for Flickr, brightness/ contrast, Curves, and black and white
Objective 6: Critique
Strength: The light makes the branches stand out
Strength: the lines make the photo more interesting
Growth: try to make a less cluttered background
Objective 7: Photographic Styles (ex. portrait, landscape, etc.) – Explain why the settings and composition are appropriate for the style of photography. (How did you create the shot?) You do NOT need to do Objective 2 if you are handing in this objective.
Type/style of photography: Nature
The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M): P
f stop used: auto
shutter speed used: auto
ISO used: 400 because it was bright out
Exposure compensation: 0 because the picture looked good without having to change the exposure compensation.
Focal length: 18mm to capture more of the trees

Born in Victoria, BC, Canada in July of 1965, Warren is a pioneer of highly detailed comic art.
He has adhered to fine art sculpting principles throughout his long career and is considered the most consistently representative comic sculpture in the world.
As a youth in the Fairfield area of Victoria, Warren was encouraged by a number of mentors and teachers to sculpt in the free-standing form, a practice he has never strayed from. One of his funniest memories was when he was a young and impressionable teenager in an advanced sculpting class. Warren was enthusiastic when the teacher said they were going to sculpt a live model one evening. He was not quite prepared as the beautiful woman completely disrobed on the stage in front of the students. Being the shy, youngest member of the class he quickly turned around and sculptured a very long haired woman rising out of a rock at the waist. The model was not pleased with his work but the teacher loved it!
warren stratford Warren soon began to concern himself with his lifelong objective: portraying the variations of humor and atmosphere brought on by comical things he thinks about. Rather than copy others as was the traditional practice of young artists, Warren learned from people around him, from the landscape itself, and from the works of his older contemporaries. Warren’s representation of humor are based on his observations of people he meets and interviews.
He often shows natural color by breaking it down into its different components as a prism does. Eliminating dull and boring from his palette, Warren rejected entirely the academic approach to comic sculpting.
Warren gIn the Signature Series Warren allows his vision of light to dissolve the real structures of his subjects. To do this he chose simple subjects, making several humorous studies of the same subject at different occupations or activities.
Warren shares his time between Asia and his home town Victoria. Look for more Signature Series as Warren is always finding humor wherever he goes.
Warren’s work is particularly well represented in shops around the world. It is also included in many famous private collections.

1) The twigs that form the bridges create rows of parallel lines.
2) The green on the tractor and red on the track are complimentary colors.
3) The vast openness of the sky creates negative space while the shape of Bunny (the dog) and her shadow create positive space. The shapes of the shrubbery and patches of grass on the trail also create positive space.
4) The conical shape of the Christmas trees is a three dimensional shape. Also the glint on the four columns shows that they are cylindrical which is also a three dimensional shape.
5) The shape of the pool that Bunny is in is square.
6) The fire place and picture frame are a dark black while the glare on the T.V. is white. There are also many different shades of gray in the floor boards and T.V. set.
7) The indents on the orange show that it has a bumpy texture.
Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
The principles of design demonstrated (describe the use):
Movement: The diagonal line in the clouds and the ripples is the water make the picture have a feel of movement, they lead your eyes to the left side of the photo.
Contrast: There is contrast in the photo because the trees separate how the amount of blue in the picture there is so that it can give more depth.
Balance: There is Balance in this picture because the blues in the sky and the water balance out each other to give it an HDR look but it isn’t.
The elements of design demonstrated (describe the use):
Objective 4: Lighting
Type of lighting and why: There is harsh and back lighting because the clouds are being light at the back and then they go dark underneath so the clouds have more depth and it is one of the subjects. There is harsh lighting because it is really bright and the sun is hitting the lake and making it have a very bright glare of it.
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
Corrections/adjustments made AND/OR techniques applied: Some corrections I could have made are that I could have made a smaller apperature so that it let in less light, and it didn’t have such harsh lighting. I could have added a border so that it added more to the picture. The trees in the picture are also really dark, and I could have lightened them up, so that you could see some of their colour more.
Objective 7: Photographic Styles (ex. portrait, landscape, etc.) – Explain why the settings and composition are appropriate for the style of photography. (How did you create the shot?) You do NOT need to do Objective 2 if you are handing in this objective.
Type/style of photography: Landscape
The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M): M
f stop used: f/20.0
shutter speed used:1/60
ISO used:100
Exposure compensation: I used Manual mode so that I was picking my settings so the exposure compensation is irrelevant to my shot.
Focal length:18mm

Principles of design "contrast"
i chose this picture because you can see the different contrast to see the important areas in the picture better.
