While we were shooting the church standing on Avenue Saint Charles, a police car rolled up and stopped on the narrow street. Several cars stopped behind the police car so the gendarme pulled up onto the sidewalk so as not to be a public nuisance. The officer had come to ask if we had a permit to use a tripod in Monte Carlo. A tripod permit!?! We said we didn't have a permit and were then told that we could only shoot hand held without that permit - and, perhaps, we should just move along given how late it was.
This train is heading east (from Cannes, Nice, etc) and going to Menton (which was my next stop) and over the border into italy ending up at Ventimiglia (Vintimille in French)
Even in December the sky is blue, the climate is mild and the flats have balconies for the summertime. At least the better flats.
A good part of the population of 36.000, attracted by the climate and the tax-laws, live in high-rise blocks of flats in La Condamine, the area around the harbour. A high packing density.
It reminded me on battery cages for egg-laying chickens. But that is unfair. The millionairs living in these blocks can drive their Porsches out of the air-conditioned, subterranian car parks - leave Monaco via a motorway and take a walk somewhere on the beaches or up in the mountains.

James Bond, fictional British spy and protagonist of the Bond book and movie series, is often associated with the city's glamorous Belle Époque casino. This was a model for the setting of Ian Fleming's first Bond novel, Casino Royale (1953), 'Royale-Les-Eaux' being a fictional resort in the style of Monte Carlo. The real Monte Carlo and its casino provided one of the locations for the James Bond movies, Never Say Never Again, and GoldenEye, and served as the setting in the CBS "Climax!" episode, Casino Royale.
