Judy Thames was selected to receive the C. Colburn Hardy Older Advocate Award, which comes with a monetary prize to donate to Judy’s organizations of choice. Judy selected COHPA to receive $1000 to be deposited into the Judith G. Thames Endowed Scholarship spendable account. This money will support research by a student working with Dr. Denise Gammonley.
C. Colburn Hardy was a community leader on aging and served as a New Jersey state legislator. His daughter, Dorcas Hardy, served as Commissioner of Social Security from 1986-1989 and was present to talk about her father's work and the award.
Judy also selected the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center in Orlando as a second recipient of the prize monies. Nancy Squillacioti, the executive director of the center, was there to accept the money on the center's behalf.

During the 2020 Virtual 4-H Table Setting Contest for the Lancaster County Super Fair, youth selected a theme and displayed one place setting, including table covering, dishes, glassware, silverware, centerpiece, and menu. Youth chose one of the following categories: formal, casual, picnic, or birthday. Youth dressed to match their table theme. There were three age divisions in each table category: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.
Judges viewed videos submitted by 4-H’ers which showed details of their table as well as a five minute oral presentation. 22 youth participated in this contest. After all judging was completed, short videos of each table were available on Flickr for public viewing.
The Super Fair is produced by Lancaster County Agricultural Society, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes agriculture, youth, and community. Learn more about Super Fair at SuperFair.org

Here at the New Media Consortium (NMC) Directors meeting in Austin, I was doing a reprise of the 5 Minutes of Fame session at EDUCAUSE ELI Conference. This was supposedly highlighting the NMC Horizon Report section on "Phones in Their Pocket" -- the report suggesting cell phone technology is on a 2-3 year horizon for becoming more broadly used in education.
Less a report than being a bit goofy, I arrange for my presentation to be interrupted by a cell phone call (has thay ever happened to anyone else?) - where I am trying to handle a crashed server situation with someone at the other end-- who turns out to have the name "Mom".
