Presentation by the Russians as a teaser for the 2014 Winter Games. As spectators in the arena we had no idea that the orchestra and skaters that we were seeing on screens were actually performing live in Sochi. It must have been sometime around 6 in the morning over there.

The words we use in public are under continual scrutiny by people with narrow vision and often less humanity. They will nod to themselves as they discover that grammatical or spelling 'error' or 'misuse' of a word.
I know, I work with these kind of people. They imagine that there are some special people who make decisions about language, creating rules that are the language and hence must be obeyed to the letter.
But what about presentation, content, or order of information presentation? Well, these have no books of rules to be learnt, therefore they are of less value.
However, when you write, you will find any number of people who can 'correct' any grammatical, spelling or word-use 'error' - but who will help you re-order the information flow? This is a pity, because we also react to information flow, content and presentation.
Grammar, spelling and word use? Well, you might hold an opinion about their correctness in a text, but it is the content, presentation and flow of information which will drive your decision - to employ or not to employ, to visit or not to visit etc.
In this month's VizThink, veteran public speaker, Jonny Goldstein, will show you how to use visual thinking to create a powerful presentation.
By the end of the session, you will develop and deliver a 2 minute mini-presentation, with visuals, to a small group.
I gave a presentation this morning demonstrating several new classes I’m creating. One class will deal with gadgets, so my demo mentioned how technology changes. You can’t pack a box with any one year’s gadgets and say you’re done. The class must change and adapt over time -- and so must the box of gadgets. So my presentation included a sundial, compass, bifocals, telegraph, slide rule, flip phone, Xbox, Kindle, and Google Glasses (shown here). And I finished the whole thing off with a drone. Now THAT was fun!
