Assignment: Vanishing Point
It has been rainy, cloudy, and gray all weekend, making outdoor photos difficult. So I headed to my favorite nursery to see what nice colorful shots I could get there!
I know the owners well enough that I was able to wander off to one of their back greenhouses. These plants are not yet for sale, they are still growing and will be brought to the main greenhouse as the older plants sell.

Mashpee, Massachusetts, April 5, 2012. Kate Iaquinto, a wildlife biologist for Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge works at a controlled burn at the Town of Mashpee Holland Hill Barrens area of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. Iaquinto helped keep the controlled burn contained by keeping its west flank watered. The burn reduced fire risk to neighboring homes and improved habitat for the New England cottontail. It was conducted by the Town of Mashpee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, State of Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Northeast Forest and Fire Management. I updated my computer this week, and several applications that were decidedly clunky on my old system now seem to work a whole lot better. This is a rework of an old image using a single file conversion with Photomatix, and together with other images that are suddenly really working, this has persuaded me to pay for the license to remove the watermark.
There is some Photoshop work in this. The single image file that produced this had the tractor and vines in deep shadow, so I needed to use Noise Ninja to clean up the noise. I also used a couple of curves layers to make local contrast adjustments, but the bottom line is that I was surprised and impressed what Photomatix was able to achieve.
