Pueblo Bonito, the largest and best known Great House in Chaco Culture National Historical Park, northern New Mexico, was built by ancestral Pueblo people and occupied between AD 828 and 1126.
Pueblo Bonito is divided into two sections by a precisely aligned wall, running north to south, through the central plaza. A Great Kiva is placed on either side of the wall, creating a symmetrical pattern common to many of the Great Houses. In addition to the great kivas, over thirty other kivas or ceremonial structures have been found, many also associated with the large central courtyard. Interior living spaces were quite large by the standards of the Ancient Pueblo.
The site covers almost two acres (8,000 m²) and incorporates at least 650 rooms, with some estimates rising to 800. In parts of the village, the tiered structure was four and five stories high. During later construction, some lower level rooms were filled with debris to better support the weight of the upper levels. The builder's use of core and veneer architecture and multi-story construction produced massive masonry walls as much as three feet (1 m) thick.
It is possible that Pueblo Bonito is actually neither a village nor city. While its size has the capacity for a significant population, the environment may not have been ideal for sustaining a large population. Excavations at the site have not revealed significant trash middens indicating residential areas. A common suggestion is that Pueblo Bonito was a ritual center. This is not only evident in the existence of the kivas (which are more often than not attributed to ritual function) but also in the construction of the site and its relation to other Chaco Canyon sites. Although there were many occupants, only 50-60 burials were found here.
Examination of pack rat middens revealed that, at the time that pueblo bonito was built Chaco Canyon and the surrounding areas were wooded by trees such as Ponderosa Pines. Evidence of such trees can be seen within the structure of Pueblo Bonito, such as the first floor support beams. Scientists hypothesised that during the time that the pueblo was inhabited the valley was cleared of almost all of the trees, to provide timber for construction and fuel. This, combined with a period of drought, led to the water table in the valley to drop severely, making the land infertile. This explains why Pueblo Bonito was only inhabited for about 300 years and is a good example of the effect that deforestation can have on the local environment. The Anasazi, no longer able to grow crops to sustain their population, had to move on.
A multi-year field study, centered in Pueblo Bonito, has been launched in order to obtain new information on the economic conditions of the Bonito phase. The ultimate goal of this recent fieldwork is to obtain data that will enable researchers to examine the development of great house communities in respect to relationships between demographic change and economic productivity.

Once a heli pilot masters the basics, a continuously evolving world of precision aerobatics awaits. Like a dancer or figure skater, a 3D heli pilot can express style by putting simple moves together in complicated sequences for incredible effect.

Some people learn faster than others, but everybody should try to step gingerly into more complicated and aggressive moves, for safeties sake (not to mention your wallet!). In real life, a crash cost not only confidence, but time and money to fix the model. By the time the pilot gets back to it, the learning experience from the crash is not fresh, and learning tends to progress slower. Irving Penn
Irving Penn's still lifes are masterpieces of understatement. Building a sculpture of frozen foods - carefully stacked by contrasting shape and colour for maximum effect - Penn took the photograph at precisely the moment when the food was beginning to thaw, its frost softening and the true colours of the fruit and vegetables beginning to peep through. From Feast for the Eyes: The Story of Food in Photography (October 2019 - February 2020)
Exploring the rich history of food photography through some of the leading figures and movements within the genre including: Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Martin Parr, Man Ray, Cindy Sherman, Wolfgang Tillmans and Weegee.
Encompassing fine-art and vernacular photography, commercial and scientific images, photojournalism and fashion, the exhibition looks at the development of this form and the artistic, social and political contexts that have informed it.
Food has always been a much-photographed and consumed subject, offering a test ground for artistic experimentation and a way for artists to hone their skills. But even the most representative images of food have rarely been straightforward or objective. Food as subject matter is rich in symbolic meaning and across the history of art, has operated as a vessel for artists to explore a particular emotion, viewpoint or theme and express a range of aspirations and social constructs. With the advent of social media, interest in food photography has become widespread with the taking and sharing of images becoming an integral part of the dining experience itself, used as instant signifiers of status and exacerbating a sense of belonging and difference.
Feast for the Eyes looks particularly at how food is represented and used in photographic practices and brings together a broad-range of artists all of whom harness the history and popularity of food photography to express wider themes. Crossing public and private realms the works on show evoke deep-seated questions and anxieties about issues such as wealth, poverty, consumption, appetite, tradition, gender, race, desire, pleasure, revulsion and domesticity.
Presented over two floors, and featuring over 140 works, from black and white silver gelatin prints and early experiments with colour processes to contemporary works, the exhibition is arranged around three key themes: Still Life traces food photography’s relationship to one of the most popular genres in painting and features work that is both inspired by the tradition and how it has changed in the course of time. Around the Table looks at the rituals that takes place around the consumption of food and the cultural identities reflected through the food we eat and people we eat with. Finally, Playing with Food shows what happens when food photography is infused with humour, fun and irony. The exhibition will also feature a number of magazines and cookbooks which provide an additional visual and social history of food photography.
Feast for the Eyes traces the history and effect of food in photography, simultaneously exploring our appetite for such images while celebrating the richness and artistic potential of one of the most popular, compulsive and ubiquitous of photographic genres.

Exhibition Jean Tinguely - Machine Spectacle 1 Oct 2016 - 5 Mar 2017 in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
Jean Tinguely is famous for his playful, boldly kinetic machines and explosive performances. Everything had to be different, everything had to move. Precisely twenty-five years after his death, the Stedelijk Museum opens a Tinguely retrospective: the largest-ever exhibition of the artist to be mounted in a Dutch museum.
The Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925–1991) played a key role in the rise of kinetic art in the fifties. With over a hundred machine sculptures, most of which are in working order, paired with films, photos, drawings, and archive materials, the presentation takes the public on a chronological and thematic journey of Tinguely’s artistic development and ideas, from his love of absurd play to his fascination for destruction and ephemerality.
The presentation features his early wire sculptures and reliefs, in which Tinguely imitated and animated the abstract paintings of artists such as Malevich, Miró, and Klee; the interactive drawing machines and wild dancing installations constructed from salvaged metal, waste materials, and discarded clothing; and his streamlined, military-looking black sculptures.
Tinguely’s self-destructive performances are a special feature of the Stedelijk presentation. The enormous installations Tinguely created between 1960–1970 (Homage to New York, Étude pour une fin du monde No. 1, Study for an End of the World No. 2, and La Vittoria) were designed to spectacularly disintegrate in a barrage of sound. The presentation also spotlights the exhibitions Tinguely organized at the Stedelijk, Bewogen Beweging (1961) and Dylaby (1962), and the gigantic sculptures he later produced: HON – en katedral (“SHE – a cathedral,” 1966), Crocrodrome (1977) and the extraordinary Le Cyclop (1969–1994), which is still on display outside Paris. The survey ends with a dramatic grand finale, the remarkable, room-filling installation, Mengele-Totentanz (1986), a disturbing display of light and shadow never previously shown in the Netherlands. Tinguely realized the work after witnessing a devastating fire, reclaiming objects from the ashes to piece together his installation: scorched beams, agricultural machinery (made by the Mengele company), and animal skeletons. The final piece is a gigantic memento mori, yet also an invocation of the Nazi concentration camps. Its juddering movements and piercing sounds evoke a haunting, grisly mood.
Jean Tinguely created his work as a rejection of the static, conventional art world; he sought to emphasize play and experiment. For Tinguely, art was not about standing in a sterile white space, distantly gazing at a silent painting. He produced kinetic sculptures to set art and art history in motion, in works that animated the boundary between art and life. With his do-it-yourself drawing machines, Tinguely critiqued the role of the artist and the elitist position of art in society. He renounced the unicity of “the artist’s hand” by encouraging visitors to produce work themselves. Collaboration was integral to Tinguely’s career. Thanks to his charismatic, vibrant personality and the dazzling success with which he presented his work (and himself) in the public sphere, Tinguely was a vital figure within these networks, acting as leader, inspirator, and connector.

In Urdu, “Numaish” means exhibition, and the Numaish in Hyderabad is precisely just that; it is an open-air exhibition to display all the ingenious products and goods that the city of Hyderabad produces. Held annually since 1938 during the ruling period of Hyderabad’s Nizams, the fair gets about 2.5 million people each year, with up to 2600 stalls set up for the perusal of the buying public. To say that it is a massive event is pretty much an understatement. Numaish Masnuaat-e-Mulki or Numaish is an annual industrial exhibition held in Hyderabad, India.[1] The exhibition has remained the only event of its kind in the world to be organised at a stretch for a 46-day period at its 23-acre (93,000 m2) permanent venue in Nampally.[2] It features joy rides, eateries and other entertainment options for the visitors.[3]
The first thing comes to mind on seeing this temple, or more precisely its walls, is the locally popular comic strips of Hindu mythology, Ramayana. But the difference is, the stories are carved, in long arrays, onto the walls of this temple.
This is not a huge temple by Hampi’s yardstick. But this temple at the heart of the royal area has some peculiarities. Firstly it had been functioning as a private temple for the king, or at the most, the royal family. The importance of this temple can be judged from its nodal location in the royal area. Your paths to various locations within the citadel concur at a corner of this temple.
Probably this is the only temple in the capital with its external walls decorated with bas-reliefs mentioned above. And the temple got its name Hazara Rama (a thousand Rama) Temple owing to this multitude of these Ramayana panels on its walls.

9 years ... (!) ... I had to wait nine years to relive the excitement of reviewing this imaginative very particular Sicilian popular feast of Fiumedinisi town (Messina): the Sicilian town celebrates it in honor of Her patron saint Virgin Mary Annunciated; Fiumedinisi celebrated it last time in 2007, fortunately I was there and I realized a small report I posted on Flickr. This is a report about the feast of August 14, 2016: it takes place in two stages along an almost straight path that joins two churches, road called precisely '' the road of float" (the same path is achieved by kneeling worshipers during the mystical procession called "of kneelings" or even understood as "travels", that this year, unlike the other editions, was made just the previous evening of this long-awaited edition, also this procession "of kneeling" I described here on Flickr). Initially the Float Feast was celebrated in Fiumedinisi on March 25, when there is the ricorrence of the religious feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, only towards the end of the nineteenth century the feast was moved to August to allow so many emigrants to took part to it. The living float of Fiumedinisi is a heavy votive machine built in wood and iron that is carried on the shoulders of about 150 men (Its curb weight is around 2.8 tons, 12 meters long and 8 meters high), three children take place on it, they personify the Eternal Father, the Archangel Gabriel and the Blessed Virgin Mary, in addition to the archpriest of Fiumedinisi, the bishop of Messina, and other devotees also they have the role of monitoring-reassure very young children who play the role of Angels. The feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Fiumedinisi, founded in the sixteenth century during the Spanish rule, then it consists of a first part with participants don't wear traditional clothes, which takes place starting around 11:00 am, begins from the square in front of the twelfth-century Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary Annunciated, to arrive in a little square in front of the church of St. Peter; then in the early afternoon, always along the same path, there is a second part with all devotees who wear the traditional dresses. When all have taken their places, three hammer blows kick off at the start, the very big-heavy float is carried on the shoulder of devotees, while people waving handkerchiefs as he passed; the representation finds its maximum intensity, and closes with a song dialect of great beauty and sweetness, in an atmosphere of complete silence, handed down for centuries, in the form of "dialogue" between the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Archangel Gabriel who is announcing to Mary with his sweet song about the mistery of Conception of Son of God, he is kneeling and gives Her the lily, in memory of the purity that Mary will not never lose (iconography that we find in Sacred Representations).

La Vara di Fiumedinisi è una pesantissima macchina votiva costruita in legno e ferro che viene portata in spalla da circa 150 uomini (Il suo peso a vuoto si aggira intorno alle 2,8 tonnellate, lunga m 12 e alta m 8), su di essa prendono posto tre bambini tra i 10 e i 14 anni che impersonano il Padre Eterno, l'Arcangelo Gabriele e la Vergine Maria, oltre all'arciprete di Fiumedinisi, al vescovo di Messina, ed altri devoti che hanno anche il compito di sorvegliare-rassicurare i giovanissimi bimbi che rivestono il ruolo di Angioletti. La festività dell’Annunciazione di Maria Vergine, patrona di Fiumedinisi, istituita nel XVI secolo durante la dominazione spagnola, si compone quindi di una “andata” senza che i partecipanti indossano gli abiti tradizionali, partenza che avviene attorno alle ore 11,00, inizia dalla piazza antistante il Santuario del XII secolo dedicato alla Madonna Annunziata, per giungere nel largo posto davanti la chiesa di San Pietro; poi nel primo pomeriggio, sempre lungo lo stesso percorso vi è un “ritorno con tutti i devoti che, questa volta, indossano gli abiti tradizionali, i portatori sono completamente vestiti di bianco e scalzi, mentre Maria, l’Arcangelo Gabriele ed il Padre Eterno vestono i loro caratteristici costumi. Sergiu Pasca arrived at his Stanford lab on October 28, 2025, dressed like a scientist from another era. The navy suit, the precisely knotted tie, the substantial black frames all evoked that postwar period when researchers believed they could decode the fundamental mysteries of life itself. But the work happening in his laboratory at the Clark Center represents something thoroughly contemporary: growing human brain tissue in dishes to understand psychiatric disease.
The photograph captures him surrounded by the tools of his trade. Molecular models sit on the desk before him, physical representations of the chemical architecture underlying consciousness itself. Framed certificates hang shadowed on the wall behind. Everything arranged with precision, yet something in his expression suggests the restless intelligence that drives breakthrough science.
Pasca has accomplished what many thought impossible. His assembloids, organized clusters of human brain cells that recapitulate specific regions and their connections, have fundamentally altered how neuroscience approaches mental illness. These aren't merely collections of neurons floating in culture medium. They're structured tissues that develop recognizable features of cortex, striatum, thalamus. More remarkably, when fused together, they form connections that mimic how different brain regions communicate in living humans.
The implications ripple outward. For the first time, researchers can watch human brain development unfold in real time, introduce genetic variations linked to autism or schizophrenia, and observe the cellular consequences. No need for autopsy tissue or animal models that approximate but never fully capture human neurobiology. The actual substrate of human thought, grown from stem cells, available for study.
He came to this work through an unusual path. Born in Romania, trained in medicine before turning to research, Pasca brought a clinician's attention to human suffering alongside a scientist's appetite for mechanism. His early papers on Timothy syndrome, a rare genetic condition causing autism and heart defects, revealed how calcium channel mutations disrupted cortical development. But it was the assembloid work that established him as a pioneer.
By his late thirties, he was directing his own center, publishing in Science and Nature, being recognized with awards typically reserved for researchers decades older. The compression of achievement suggests not just talent but a particular kind of obsessive focus. He had found his problem: how brains build themselves and what goes wrong in psychiatric disease.
The assembloid studies have yielded concrete insights. In certain forms of autism, the difficulty lies not in individual neurons but in how brain regions communicate. His team fused cortical and striatal organoids and watched the connections form aberrantly in tissue carrying autism-associated mutations. Other work revealed how neural stem cells in schizophrenia patients show accelerated maturation, potentially explaining the timing of symptom onset.
This represents detective work at the cellular scale, tracking developmental divergences that manifest years later as a child who cannot speak or an adult who experiences psychosis. The molecular models on his desk aren't decorative but essential: they represent the chemical reality underlying every thought, every perception, every psychiatric symptom.
What makes Pasca's approach distinctive is its philosophical grounding in experimental rigor. By creating these miniature brain circuits, he's solved one of neuroscience's oldest problems: access to living human tissue during the critical period when circuits form. The assembloids provide a window into processes previously hidden, happening in utero or early childhood, long before symptoms appear.
The work has practical applications. Pharmaceutical companies use assembloids to test drug candidates on actual human brain tissue. Clinicians may eventually use patient-derived organoids to predict treatment response. But the deeper contribution is conceptual: a new way to think about brain development and its vulnerabilities.
That October afternoon, photographed in his laboratory, Pasca embodied a particular type of scientist. The formal attire speaks to seriousness of purpose. The molecular models and certificates frame achievement already substantial. But the eyes suggest someone still engaged with fundamental questions, still building toward insights not yet realized. He's made brains in dishes not as spectacle but as tool, a means toward helping people whose brains diverged from typical developmental trajectories.
His career will likely be defined by this work. The questions he's pursuing couldn't be more urgent: What causes autism? Why does schizophrenia emerge in early adulthood? Can we intervene earlier, more precisely? The answers are taking shape in his lab, one assembloid at a time, grown from stem cells into structures that think but cannot yet speak.

My first purchase of the Flea. This is precisely the sort of stuff I'm hoping to find: a big box of 5 volt actuators. It's a very simple little component. Put 5 volts across its terminals and that little black post will jab itself upwards about half a centimeter.
They're intensely useful for automation projects and I love having a bunch of these in my parts bin. Let's say that there's a toy or appliance or any other sort of consumer item that you'd like to control via a computer.
You could either spend hours analyzing its circuitry and design a circuit that injects the right kind of digital signal along the right trace on its logic board to mimic what happens internally when a human user pushes one of the buttons on the thing's built-in panel, or...
...or you could just mount an actuator on the panel and have your computer physically push the button. With the right actuators, my $35 Arduino controller board can control a TV by simply pushing the right buttons on the remote. Cool.
These were a minor steal; I paid ten bucks for a whole fistful.

While not precisely an icosahedral analog of the 40 Triangular Pyramids, this is based upon upon the 20 triangle base analogous to the 8 triangle base of 40 Triangular Pyramids. Notably, each array's frames does not contain inverted frames as 40 Triangular Pyramids. Also, the arrays here do not uniformly rotate in the same direction with respect to each other. This latter fact was a strategic development intended to use the array structure to stabilize the construction. The visual effect is interesting, as the arrays project quite as ways from the base. Although the weaving and assembly are not technically complex, the arrays are slightly less rigid than I would prefer. This, in conjunction with the sheer paper weight of so many frames makes this more delicate than I would prefer. Perhaps a heavier weight paper would assist in remedying this, but at present, I do not feel inclined to refold another 600 units for this. In any case, I do believe that this is the first wireframe polyhedral 100-compound of anything, in origami or anything else.

We had a complete change this Christmas – we cancelled it! - we went walking in The Lakes, or Wasdale more precisely. We were staying at Irton Hall B & B, they had over 70 in for Christmas dinner but we ate jam bread on the slopes of Sca Fell Pike. Fantastic. We had a front wheel puncture on a run flat tyre on the new car with a 100 mile still to drive on the afternoon of Christmas eve on our way there. I drove straight to the nearest ATS – where I have an account – they shook their heads and directed me to Westhoughton Tyres, the lads there were fantastic and got us on our way in good time. BMW dealer advice was run on the flat tyre and then throw it away - £250! Where I would have got a tyre on the western side of the Lakes over Christmas I don’t know, ATS didn’t have one to sell me.
The weather was forecast good for Christmas day but after a fine start it was raining before we even left the car park in Wasdale. We headed up Lingmell and ran into snow on the summit. The path onto Sca Fell Pike was very icy, snow covered and visibility was low, the snow kept falling. We didn’t linger long, it was too cold to have dinner up there so we dropped down onto the Corridor Route, where we had our dinner. We went that way to stretch the walk out, having originally intended to cross to Great End. The tops were so icy, glazed, with not enough snow to get a grip on that we decide to leave it for another day. From Styhead we headed back to Wasdale and a dull but fine finish to the day. A drink in the bar at Irton Hall was on the radar.
Every morning we headed into Wasdale early, it got colder, icier and sunnier as the days went by. We went up Yewbarrow, it was an icy scramble up and I decided it was too dangerous to go down Stirrup Crag to Dore Head so went back the same way. It turned out to be the right decision as we lingered on the top, going to view points that we wouldn’t have and getting some decent photos. One morning we walked over the Screes tops, Illgill Head and Whin Rigg, dropping down the steep slope to The southern end of Wast Water. Having said that I would never walk the Screes path alongside Wast Water again the memory of how awful it is in the rain had faded. There is only really a quarter of a mile out of three miles that is really bad, every rock was like glass with the potential to break a leg every step. It seemed a long way and I was getting killer looks from Herself.
We made our way onto Sca Fell on a beautiful morning, clear blue sky. The snow line had got lower most nights but we never had the low level snow that caused problems in the rest of the country. I chose a, sometimes, pathless way to the summit, partly because I’d never been that way but also to stay in the sun, to keep the view and to avoid the ways that would be a touch dangerous, it was -4 and seared with ice for the last 600 feet. After 15 minutes on the summit wispy thin cloud came racing in, crossing the Lake District in minutes, the photos show it heading towards us and I was glad to have got the clear photos first. Looking out to sea a great mattress of cloud was heading straight for us. It was calm and sunny one minute and the next we were engulfed in thick cloud with 30 yards visibility at the most. I have never had a clear sky turn to cloud so fast – ever! We were going down to Slightside next which was OK, about a mile following the ridge down, the problem was getting back to Wasdale from there. We needed to get to Great Howe which meant a pathless trek a mile SW across Quagrigg Moss – a bog full of tarnlets, it would be a nightmare in low visibility. After getting some accurate compass bearings and heading down off Slightside we suddenly dropped out of the cloud and could see our target, brilliant, we legged it across the semi frozen bog and finally felt able to rest and grab a sandwich and cup of tea. We had to find our way down Raven Crags, which was interesting – and steep! We needed to get to the footbridge to get onto the Burnmoor Tarn path back to Wasdale. As we got closer to Burnmoor Tarn the light that I had been cursing gave us a gorgeous sunset. I had one eye on a gap in the cloud low down in the sky out at sea and I was hoping the sun would break through, it did. Burnmoor Tarn was like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountains, including Yewbarrow and parts of the Mosedale Horseshoe in the far distance. There was just the two of us, we had barely seen a soul all day, it was a fantastic end to a tough day. As we dropped into Wasdale I caught the deep pink and orange of the last of the sun, I was shooting into it but I had nothing to lose. There would have been quite a few tripods at the opposite end of the lake but I think I was in the better place – for a change.
On our final walking day we decided to head up Great Gable. It was clear of cloud for a change but ominously the surrounding tops, including the Sca Fells were cloud covered. Another beautiful but very cold morning, it was going to be very icy up there so we elected to go via Styhead and the tourist track. We would choose a way off once we were up there. Long before we got to the top, although we couldn’t see it, we knew the cloud was swirling in and out on the summit so it was going to be hit and miss for the photos. The cloud was down for the last 500 feet but once on the frozen top it kept clearing briefly – very briefly. There were more people up there than we had seen the entire trip previously. People were getting out after Christmas, many had parked at the top of Honister for the fairly easy walk in across Green Gable, some were not dressed for winter walking it has to be said. We left for an icy scramble down to Arron Slack, up onto Green Gable them we galloped down Arron Slack to Styhead and back to Wasdale.
Took a walk in the hills at morrongo valley when i came back down their was this guy flying his heli he had two of them he was doing free styje flying took some shot's and then move on to the birding.Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is an internationally-recognized birding site. Several rare or unusual species are known to nest here, and many other species are abundant during the spring and fall migration seasons.
What does it mean to “fly 3D”? All aircraft maneuver in three dimensional space, so what separates 3D flying from just flying? Model helicopters are capable of maneuvers other aircraft, including full sized helicopters can only dream of. A modern “3D” model helicopter is capable of aggressive, accurate and axial flips and rolls. Adding the ability to pirouette, fly backwards and upside down, there is practically no limit to the maneuvers that can be flown. Although aggressive, unbelievable flights may seem wildly out of control to the untrained eye, it takes immense skill, and the models can be flown incredibly precisely with enough practice.
One of the beauties of modern aerobatic helicopter flight, which has come to be known as 3D, is how varied the potential is. Every 3D heli pilot exhibits their own character and style in flight. A 3D flight could be flown freestyle with nothing planned ahead of time, or it could be a highly prepared, choreographed flight put to music for competition. While 3D heli flight is, in essence, simply a combination of flips, rolls , and pirouettes, there is no end to the combinations. Once a heli pilot masters the basics, a continuously evolving world of precision aerobatics awaits. Like a dancer or figure skater, a 3D heli pilot can express style by putting simple moves together in complicated sequences for incredible effect.
Like any sport, art, or specialty, practice makes perfect. Some people learn faster than others, but everybody should try to step gingerly into more complicated and aggressive moves, for safeties sake (not to mention your wallet!). Excellent training tools are available; most notably computer simulators and buddy boxes. Unlike most video games which are intended for play, simulators for model aircraft are designed around one goal, helping people learn how to fly model airplanes and helicopters. Simulators are so accurate a budding pilot can master almost all regimes of flight in a simulated environment which instantly replaces a wrecked model! In real life, a crash cost not only confidence, but time and money to fix the model. By the time the pilot gets back to it, the learning experience from the crash is not fresh, and learning tends to progress slower. On a simulator, a fledgling pilot can take as much time exploring the controls as they want, and learn at their own pace without any down time between crashes.

Lontong Balap
Lontong balap is one of traditional foods from East Java, precisely from Surabaya. Lontong balap is consist of lontong or sticky rice cake, bean sprout, tofu and lentho. Lentho is more or less like fried cake, which is made by cassava and cowpea, it is tasty and make particular crunchy-ness in Lontong balap. It become more yummy by garlic dressing sauce and hot shrimp paste.
Moreover, when eating Lontong balap, do no forget to complete it with Sate Kerang or scallop satai and coconut ice.
Why this food named by Lontong Balap, because formerly, when the people who sell Lontong Balap they used heavy-barrel-shaped and bear it to the whole city. This barrel make the seller had to walk as fast as they can, seems like someone who taking a race. Balap is taken from Javanese language, balapan, means racing. Recently, we can find Lontong balap in stall or barrow.
We can find some Lontong Balap in all over Surabaya, whether in stall or barrow. Fortunately, the most popular Lontong Balap in Surabaya is located in Kranggan street, there are some stalls over the street that offering Lontong balap as their main menu, but the most special one is belong to Lontong Balap Garuda by Pak Gendut. It becomes famous for the different taste within the ingredients, and that makes Lontong Balap Pak Gendut known by people outside Surabaya.

١٤ عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ14 Each soul will know what it has readied.
١٥ فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ15 I swear by the galaxies.
١٦ الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ16 Precisely running their courses.
١٧ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ17 And by the night as it recedes.
١٨ وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ18 And by the morn as it breathes.
١٩ إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ19 This is the speech of a noble messenger.
٢٠ ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ20 Endowed with power, eminent with the Lord of the Throne.
٢١ مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ21 Obeyed and honest.
٢٢ وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍ22 Your friend is not possessed.
٢٣ وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ23 He saw him on the luminous horizon.
٢٤ وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ24 And He does not withhold knowledge of the Unseen.
٢٥ وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ25 And it is not the word of an accursed devil.
٢٦ فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ26 So where are you heading?
٢٧ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ27 It is only a Reminder to all mankind.
٢٨ لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَسْتَقِيمَ28 To whoever of you wills to go straight.
٢٩ وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ29 But you cannot will, unless God wills—The Lord of the Worlds.
١ ن ۚ وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ1 Noon. By the pen, and by what they inscribe.
٢ مَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ2 By the grace of your Lord, you are not insane.
٣ وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ3 In fact, you will have a reward that will never end.
٤ وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ4 And you are of a great moral character.
٥ فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ5 You will see, and they will see.
٦ بِأَيْيِكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ6 Which of you is the afflicted.
٧ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ7 Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path, and He knows best the well-guided.
٨ فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ8 So do not obey the deniers.
٩ وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ9 They would like you to compromise, so they would compromise.
١٠ وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَهِينٍ10 And do not obey any vile swearer.
١١ هَمَّازٍ مَشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ11 Backbiter, spreader of slander.
١٢ مَنَّاعٍ لِلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ12 Preventer of good, transgressor, sinner.
١٣ عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ13 Rude and fake besides.
١٤ أَنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ14 Just because he has money and children.
١٥ إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ15 When Our Verses are recited to him, he says, “Myths of the ancients!”
١٦ سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ16 We will brand him on the muzzle.
١٧ إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ17 We tested them, as We tested the owners of the garden, when they vowed to harvest it in the morning.
١٨ وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ18 Without any reservation.
١٩ فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ19 But a calamity from your Lord went around it while they slept.
٢٠ فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ20 And in the morning it was as if picked.
٢١ فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِينَ21 In the morning, they called to one another.
٢٢ أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَارِمِينَ22 “Go early to your plantation, if you are going to harvest.”
٢٣ فَانْطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ23 So off they went, murmuring to one another.
٢٤ أَنْ لَا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ24 “No poor person is to enter it upon you today.”
٢٥ وَغَدَوْا عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ25 And early they went, resolved in intent.
٢٦ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ26 But when they saw it, they said, “We were wrong.
٢٧ بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ27 We are now deprived.”
٢٨ قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ28 The most reasonable of them said, “Did I not say to you, ‘if only you would glorify?’”
٢٩ قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ29 They said, “Glory to our Lord—We were indeed in the wrong.”
٣٠ فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ30 Then they turned to one another, blaming one another.
٣١ قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ31 They said, “Woe to us—we were indeed domineering.
٣٢ عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ32 Perhaps our Lord will give us a better substitute for it. We are turning to our Lord.” ٢٤ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ وَقُلْ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَٰذَا رَشَدًا24 Without saying, “If God wills.” And remember your Lord if you forget, and say, “Perhaps my Lord will guide me to nearer than this in integrity.”
٢٥ وَلَبِثُوا فِي كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ سِنِينَ وَازْدَادُوا تِسْعًا25 And they stayed in their cave for three hundred years, adding nine.
٢٦ قُلِ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوا ۖ لَهُ غَيْبُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ أَبْصِرْ بِهِ وَأَسْمِعْ ۚ مَا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ فِي حُكْمِهِ أَحَدًا26 Say, “God knows best how long they stayed.” His is the mystery of the heavens and the earth. By Him you see and hear. They have no guardian apart from Him, and He shares His Sovereignty with no one.
٢٧ وَاتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا27 And recite what was revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. There is no changing His words, and you will find no refuge except in Him.
٢٨ وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ ۖ وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُمْ تُرِيدُ زِينَةَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَا تُطِعْ مَنْ أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُ فُرُطًا28 And content yourself with those who pray to their Lord morning and evening, desiring His Presence. And do not turn your eyes away from them, desiring the glitter of this world. And do not obey him whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance—so he follows his own desires—and his priorities are confused.
٢٩ وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِنْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚ إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ وَإِنْ يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ ۚ بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ وَسَاءَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا29 And say, “The truth is from your Lord. Whoever wills—let him believe. And whoever wills—let him disbelieve”. We have prepared for the unjust a Fire, whose curtains will hem them in. And when they cry for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten brass, which scalds the faces. What a miserable drink, and what a terrible place.
٣٠ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ مَنْ أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا30 As for those who believe and lead a righteous life—We will not waste the reward of those who work righteousness.
٣١ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهِمُ الْأَنْهَارُ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَيَلْبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ ۚ نِعْمَ الثَّوَابُ وَحَسُنَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا31 These will have the Gardens of Eden, beneath which rivers flow. Reclining on comfortable furnishings, they will be adorned with bracelets of gold, and will wear green garments of silk and brocade. What a wonderful reward, and what an excellent resting-place.
٣٢ وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا رَجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَحَفَفْنَاهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًا32 And cite for them the parable of two men. To one of them We gave two gardens of vine, and We surrounded them with palm-trees, and We placed between them crops.
٣٣ كِلْتَا الْجَنَّتَيْنِ آتَتْ أُكُلَهَا وَلَمْ تَظْلِمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا ۚ وَفَجَّرْنَا خِلَالَهُمَا نَهَرًا33 Both gardens produced their harvest in full, and suffered no loss. And We made a river flow through them.
٣٤ وَكَانَ لَهُ ثَمَرٌ فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَنَا أَكْثَرُ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَأَعَزُّ نَفَرًا34 And thus he had abundant fruits. He said to his friend, as he conversed with him, “I am wealthier than you, and greater in manpower.”
٣٥ وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهُ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ قَالَ مَا أَظُنُّ أَنْ تَبِيدَ هَٰذِهِ أَبَدًا35 And he entered his garden, wronging himself. He said, “I do not think this will ever perish.”
٣٦ وَمَا أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَائِمَةً وَلَئِنْ رُدِدْتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا مُنْقَلَبًا36 “And I do not think the Hour is coming. And even if I am returned to my Lord, I will find something better than this in return.”
٣٧ قَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَكَ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ سَوَّاكَ رَجُلًا37 His friend said to him, as he conversed with him, “Are you being ungrateful to Him who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then evolved you into a man?
٣٨ لَٰكِنَّا هُوَ اللَّهُ رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا38 But as for me, He is God, my Lord, and I never associate with my Lord anyone.
٣٩ وَلَوْلَا إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ إِنْ تَرَنِ أَنَا أَقَلَّ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا39 When you entered your garden, why did you not say, “As God wills; there is no power except through God”? Although you see me inferior to you in wealth and children.
٤٠ فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّي أَنْ يُؤْتِيَنِ خَيْرًا مِنْ جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهَا حُسْبَانًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَتُصْبِحَ صَعِيدًا زَلَقًا40 Perhaps my Lord will give me something better than your garden, and release upon it thunderbolts from the sky, so it becomes barren waste.
٤١ أَوْ يُصْبِحَ مَاؤُهَا غَوْرًا فَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ لَهُ طَلَبًا41 Or its water will sink into the ground, and you will be unable to draw it.”
٤٢ وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَىٰ مَا أَنْفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا42 And ruin closed in on his crops, and so he began wringing his hands over what he had invested in it, as it lays fallen upon its trellises. And he was saying, “I wish I never associated anyone with my Lord.”
٤٣ وَلَمْ تَكُنْ لَهُ فِئَةٌ يَنْصُرُونَهُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنْتَصِرًا43 He had no faction to help him besides God, and he was helpless.
٤٤ هُنَالِكَ الْوَلَايَةُ لِلَّهِ الْحَقِّ ۚ هُوَ خَيْرٌ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ عُقْبًا44 That is because authority belongs to God, the True. He is Best in rewarding, and Best in requiting.
