The frozen surface of the large Arbersee lake radiates a quiet serenity. As if the world were holding its breath for a moment, thoughts realign and gain clarity. Such moments are rare, yet their power lies precisely in their fleeting nature: they bestow a profound peace and remind us how beneficial pausing can be.
Mainau is an island in Germany, located on Lake Constance and more precisely in the northwestern part known as Lake Überlingen (Überlinger See). The island is connected by the south with the mainland by means of a bridge.
Mainau is included in the communal territory of the city of Constanza and in fact the best way to get there is through the urban transport of this city, which has a bus line with stop at the access to the island. This is an important tourist destination thanks to its mild climate, thanks to which it shelters a vegetation very rich in species, even subtropical and tropical.
The entrance to the island is made after payment, but its careful vegetation, the millions of flowers that decorate it (as is evident, mainly in the months of spring and summer), its greenhouses of palms and butterflies - in which they fly over freely to visitors and they are of great variety and size - their space with varied types of complex swings, and their small area with different animals, together with other details, are of an objective interest.
In agreement with all the previous thing, the place also is denominated the island of the flowers.

~Thanks for having a look!.. I appreciate it!
I added the ducks although this is precisely where they were photographed.. at any given time, in Spring, Summer or Fall, 40 or so ducks live at the pond.. plus a few Egrets.
Knowing where to look and knowing what you are looking for will not get you a glimpse of the Ghost of Cassiopeia (IC 63 for the astronomers). A "go to mount" or more precisely, a stable tripod and a motorized mount with a library of the directions to deep sky objects will get your camera or telescope trained on this eerie cluster of nebulae, 550 light years away.
That giant W hanging in the sky is the Constellation Cassiopeia, consisting of 5 bright stars. The star in the middle is named Gamma Cassiopeiae, and it is a monster--19 times more massive than our sun, 65,000 times brighter, rotating 200 times faster. Its light falls on the Ghost Nebula, several light years distant. Its UV radiation is absorbed by hydrogen gas, which gains energy and then loses it, releasing light from the red portion of the spectrum. Gamma Cassiopeia also releases blue light, which is then reflected by dust in the Ghost. So the Ghost is both an emission and a reflection nebula.

Healthy self-confidence and genuine honesty are the cornerstones of a strong character. Yet society—often steered and influenced by political structures—constantly puts pressure on us to undermine precisely this self-confidence. In the effort to conform and avoid exclusion, many people gradually lose their honesty. This creates a silent conflict between the desire to remain true to oneself and the fear of not being able to survive in this society. But therein lies the opportunity: those who find the courage to stand up for themselves not only strengthen their own character but also become silent role models for real change.
... of the American sycophant and spittle licker is precisely 6.5 cm. Spittle lickers are a universal phenomenon, but in Washington DC they are congregating in huge numbers, particularly in the Government where they lick the shoe soles (and other unmentionables) of GNOTUS (Great Narcissist of the US). Twice a year, the sun rises precisely behind the old coaling tower at DeKalb, IL, with the windows letting the light shine through from the other side, as long as the skies are clear. This was the view on 2-29-16.

This wagon, or van, is for the traveling country troubadour, Fred Tobin. I hadn't heard from him. On Southern BC [wine, fruit and veggie country], there was a summer festival with Elvis impersonaters. I don't think Mr. Tobin is one, but, as why Willy Sutton robbed banks, Mr. Tobin headed to where the action was.
More precisely: In the city of Kelowna, on the shore of huge Okanagan Lake, is surrounded by pine forests and provincial parks. The Okanagan Valley sure is beautiful!
This is, of course, Mt. Rainier located here in Washington state. This is just about the best location for taking a shot of the mountain. This was taken from South Hill in Puyallup. For those that know the area, it's precisely at the intersection of Meridian Avenue East and Sunrise Blvd. It's a clear shot, that is, if you don't mind a few light posts! There never seems to be a location that you don't have to put up with some sort of obstacle, be it light posts, power lines, or trees. Course, for those that don't know, Washington is FULL of Douglas Fir trees! Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful; but they always seem to be in the way when you want to take a photograph! ha!
Now, if you want my honest opinion, the best location for a shot of the mountain is located just blocks away from my home! (something that probably sold us on the place!) Come up just a couple blocks east of Graham hill and you've got a wonderful, beautiful shot!
Occasionally, I just want a different viewpoint...and so that is what this is! It's a bit of an overcast day, but other than that it's a fairly clear shot of the mountain (not always an easy thing to get!) This was actually taken just a few months after our moving into the area. Hope you enjoy!

Seen in a shopping mall in Las Vegas. The image itself is precisely what the camera saw, including the internal framing....it is a view through an oddly shaped cutout in a second-story wall. The color was nearly what is seen here, but I amped it up just a little to get the contrast I wanted. In the end, for me it was all about the composition...

Loch Morlich is in the Cairngorms National Park near Aviemore in Scotland. More precisely it’s in the Glenmore Forest Park which is a part of the overall national preserve. These are the Cairngorm Mountains you see in the background, well at least a couple of the peaks in the range. I’d name them for you but to be honest I've pretty much exhausted my geographic knowledge of the area at this point.
I was in Glenmore to see the Siberian Husky racing, which was great fun to see, and I grabbed a few (thousand) shots of the dogs and their mushers. No doubt many of those will be posted to Flickr soon enough. It was on the way back to the hotel that I spotted from the roadside that the loch was frozen and the sun was just getting into a nice position. The hills appeared to be glowing with the last light of the sun, just a hint of mist in the trees and the ice was giving off a fabulous orange tone. Catching this rounded off a great day of shooting. I just love it when a plan comes together.

Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) is so well known, you can either say too much or too little about it, but there is a reason why it is THE tourist draw in Venice, above all others. Here you can find all things Venice in one stop, which is precisely why it is so crazy crowded from about 11:00 am to late afternoon.
In other words, get there early! Beat the other tourists to the Campanile (bell tower), St. Mark's Basilica with its stunning Horses of St Mark, and the Doge's Palace (at left in the photo). I recommend you see them in that order, too. You can also see the Biblioteca (centered), the Clocktower and arcades, take photos of the Bridge of Sighs, shop and eat off square, and when you are ready take a gondola ride from the docks.

Eleonora's Falcon (Falco eleonorae) is a unique migratory raptor known for its specialised hunting behaviours and its namesake, the 14th-century Sardinian ruler Eleonora of Arborea, who enacted the world’s first recorded laws protecting falcon nests.
To ensure a fresh food supply for their chicks, these falcons capture small migratory birds, pluck their flight feathers to prevent escape, and wedge them into rock crevices.
This allows the falcon to keep its prey alive for several days until it is needed to feed the young.
It delays its egg-laying until late July or August so that its chicks hatch in September, precisely when the peak of autumn bird migration passes through the Mediterranean.
Prey Abundance: This allows the falcons to capitalise on the massive numbers of tired migratory songbirds flying south from Europe to Africa.
Virtually the entire world population migrates roughly 9,000–10,000 km to winter in Madagascar!

* The photo is of antique ruins --more precisely 300 a.c--which, according to archaeologists are partly Greek and partly Roman.
These ruins are in North-East Spain, not far from the French border.
The term Vucciria is a dialectal corruption of the French word boucherie, which means butcher's shop. It is in fact in this market, precisely the "Vucciria", that, at the time of the Angevins, the slaughter of animals took place. Later it also became a fish and fruit market.
Today, unfortunately, the Vucciria is languishing a lot and in the little square that you see in this shot the only ones left are the street food vendors (meat, offal and all sorts of things are roasted on the grill and served to tourists).
The old market, however, comes alive at night for the movida and welcomes all sorts of young people looking for a beer and something to eat.
Honestly, I don't think it's a very popular place at night, with so many "hot heads" ready to steal and fight.
Lübeck is certainly not a metropolis. And yet (or perhaps precisely because of that) there is such a wealth of charming motifs there. Lübeck is always worth a trip... Not away... but towards...:-))
"Listening and watching of a Great Grey Owl".
I watched this Great Grey Owl as she flew silently over the meadow watching but more precisely listening for voles.
You can see how she suddenly changes her focus as she obviously heard something from a completely different direction.
It's a really spacial border, especially nowadays...
The Polish-Russian border on the Vistula Spit (or more precisely - between Poland and the Kaliningrad Oblast) is one of the most unusual in Europe. The external border of the European Union and NATO runs here, and the dividing line is marked by a narrow, spit. After the Second World War, this narrow strip of land between the Baltic Sea and the Vistula Lagoon was divided between Poland and the USSR. There is a mesh fence across the beach and several meters into the water. Behind it, the exclusion zone begins and about 250 meters away is the border of the two countries. The border cannot be crossed here, but its surroundings are a beautiful place for a walk.

This image was taken, precisely, across the street from the sleek, modern building that precedes this image in my Flickr stream.
These days, one can find graffiti (street art?) just about anywhere. Much of it does not make sense to me, but I have to admit some graffiti has its merits.
For example, railway cars and railway bridges (especially the rusting steel ones!) are just plain eyesores. A little bit of paint can give those things a whole new, and often better, appearance!
................................................................................................
Honestly if you were a bird wouldn’t you prefer to bath in this birdbath over a puddle? Well of course you would and precisely why we supply such a venue, lol. We have no fewer than four on the property. One of my weekly chores in my retirement is yard maintenance is looking after our many and varied feathered friends. Thanks for viewing my photos. Gratitude and Kindness can smooth out the rough edges in life.
I strongly suggest you zoom-in on the image. You won't be deceived by what you will find there and will understand why the moon was looking so attentively at the skyscraper 😊
It was a turbulent night and early morning 😂. Getting up in the middle of the night and constantly chasing the moon!
Even after photographing it aligned with the top of the Burj Khalifa (see my previous post), I wanted to keep photographing it aligned with the tower as it descended on the horizon. And to do that, I had to constantly run to the left of my position to keep it aligned, given how fast it moves.
I have some good photos of this epic "journey" (you'll hear about them later...), but here I chose one that isn't precisely aligned with the tower, which I like better. The moon looks like an alien investigating what's happening inside the Burj Khalifa! 😂

I don't have a name for this cute little Bee. It seems that there are so many different species, some very similar, that they are almost impossible to identify precisely.
I love seeing them rub their plump little belly against the pollen-charged anthers with so much enthusiasm that you would swear they are having a ball :) /

The current situation in Germany frightens me more than ever before.
I fear that even more people will be hunted and killed soon.
Our politicians, the elected representatives of this country, a country
that claims to be liberal and democratic, are preparing the ground for this, or rather, they are willing to accept that the ground is being prepared for it.
We are far too close to the American situation, where one setback after another occurs where people are far from reaching their goal! Where one life-threatening restriction after another is imposed, where art, even spoken literature, is banned, as if art posed a danger. See 1933.
ART is not DANGEROUS, whom and what we do not know is not dangerous as well.
As long as people don't learn to locate the cause of their own alienation, their own anger, their own inadequacies within themselves, and as long as people aren't willing
to take responsibility for themselves instead of screaming at others and kill others, nothing will change.
By this, I'm not saying that our responsibility doesn't also lie in creating structures within which material, psychosocial, and physical equality and responsibility for one another can be guaranteed and thus practiced.
We are all equal by nature; we are thrown into the world and will one day die.
And nothing we tinker with externally can change that, unless we become aware that there are living beings, whether human, animal, or plant, that depend on our sense of justice, our empathy, and our support, precisely BECAUSE they are no different from us.
Everyone is equal; everyone should have the same rights and be treated equally.
The earth gave birth to us, not we the earth.
So many people have already said: a society is always as strong
as its weakest elements.
The word "weakness" should certainly be discussed here.
Being weak often simply has to do with being pushed into a certain position by an existing power structure.
I can counteract my helplessness in the face of current developments a little bit in my work as a therapist.
I would like to do more.
And same time I am afraid it could already be too late
KOO JEONG A directs our gaze to the incidental, to the marginal zones of experience that are first noticed after patient observation. Invisible phenomena can be experienced through sounds, smells, and minimal gestures. The invented and found, concrete and intangible slide into one another devoid of fixed boundaries. At the same time, KOO JEONG A’s work is characterized by extraordinary restraint. Just a few, precisely arranged elements are enough to generate a presence.
A striped brush.
More precisely, it's a sonic toothbrush replaceable head, whose stripes race side-to-side at roughly 250 hertz, or 15,000 oscillations per minute, to do its plaque-busting task. (For comparison, the electricity from your outlet alternates at 50 or 60 Hz, depending on your country.)
The stripes are not all show and no go. The dye in the dark blue pair of bristles fade with use, giving a visual indication the brush head needs replacing.

Goder is described in the sagas as the religious and political leader or chief of his district who was called godord (goðorð). In Iceland, every ninth farmer had a duty to accompany his property to the Althing if the estate demanded it, and whoever escaped had to pay the courtier's costs. At the parliament, the most important men met for a discussion and the parliament was the most important hub in Norse society. In addition to court proceedings and judging between right and wrong, the youth held competitions in sports and beer parties were held for friends and relatives, news was told and connections were made and alliances formed. Poets and storytellers contributed to the entertainment.
Goden was the chief of his district and those under him were his courtiers. The relationship between them was free. The magistrate promised good support and he in turn guaranteed his magistrates protection. If they did not agree, the magistrate could choose another good one. The area of goods, good words, was thus not precisely delimited. The good words were hereditary, but could also be sold.

This monochrome image shows a landscape at the Hungry Horse Reservoir in Montana. The foreground of the composition is framed by the silhouettes of tall, bare pine trees, with an Osprey sitting atop a large nest. A small island, covered in thick pine trees, is situated in the reservoir, and in the background, rugged mountains can be seen in the Flathead National Forest. More precisely, these mountains are in the Flathead Range, which is a part of the Northern Rocky Mountains.

The rain fell gently from the sky, as if it were falling just for her.
Under the pink umbrella, the world seemed a little brighter, and every drop sounded like a quiet promise.
She danced lightly through the puddles, her heart full of warmth, as if the rain itself were in love.
Because sometimes it is precisely these moments – wet, sparkling and full of emotion – when happiness quietly says ‘hello’.

There are spaces that aren’t just designed… they’re felt. Places where every object seems to have found its natural place, where light caresses surfaces, and where everyday life becomes an aesthetic experience. This interior is precisely that: a warm refuge where classic elegance blends with the tranquility of home.
The scene opens with an imposing, patinated wooden door that seems to hold ancient stories. Its weathered texture adds character and depth, becoming the starting point for an atmosphere that celebrates craftsmanship and authenticity. Around it, dark bookcases filled with small objects, books, and mementos create an intimate and personal visual narrative.
In the center of the space, life unfolds on a collection of soft rugs and generous cushions. There, several cats rest peacefully, adding that vibrant touch that transforms any interior into a true home. Their presence is not accidental: they represent calm, a slower pace, and the pleasure of inhabiting spaces without haste.
Lighting plays a fundamental role in the atmosphere. Contemporary pendant lamps delicately contrast with the classic architecture of the ceiling and the ornamental moldings, creating a dialogue between modern and traditional. Natural light entering from the side casts soft shadows on the wooden floor, revealing textures and depths that make the space feel even more real and inviting.
In the background, an elegant bar in deep gray tones adds sophistication and functionality. Upholstered stools with delicate details invite long conversations, while the circular mirror with an organic frame reflects the light and enhances the feeling of spaciousness.
This space demonstrates that true decoration is not about filling rooms, but about creating atmospheres. It’s about combining materials, light, objects, and everyday life to build a place where every corner invites you to linger a little longer.
An interior where design embraces calm… and where home is felt in every detail.

We arrived at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh precisely at the time they were setting up gear and additional seats for an advent concert which unfortunately we had no time to witness. Loved the interior of this Cathedral and especially the sculpture of John Knox, the Scottish Reformator, which stands modestly in one corner on the right hand side.
