Devils Elbow Bridge
By Matthew Kent
Friday, August 21, 2009
Waynesville, Missouri — Pulaski County Commissioners learned Thursday that the county won't be receiving grant funding for the Devils Elbow Bridge.
Jack Kearbey, area specialist with the USDA Rural Development, informed the commission it didn't make the cut. Grant funding would have paid for engineering fees toward the bridge, according to Eastern District Commissioner Bill Farnham. Farnham said the next period for re-applying for the grant would be in October and said it was “disheartening” that no grant funding was received.
The bridge, which has been listed in poor condition by the Missouri Department of Transportation for at least two consecutive years, has been looked at by the County Commission, but a cost of $1.6 million has been cited to correct the deficiencies at the aging bridge. It was built in 1923 and was declared obsolete in 1942 when a new one was built.
In April, the Commission approved a contract with Springfield-based Great River Engineering for pre-engineering work on the bridge for $99,938. That was 75 percent covered through a grant with the USDA, while the other 25 percent was covered by the Off-System Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation (BRO) program, which provides funding for counties through MoDOT for the replacement and rehabilitation of deficient bridges.

Sometimes our dreams take us to places so unreal we can do nothing but accept and embrace them.
I have begun to experience this first hand; I am a pre-engineering major, but my work has taken me to such lengths and gained attention from people I would have never even imagined noticing me that it has consumed my being as a whole. He works in such incredible ways that we can never comprehend His true plan.

The high school I went to, today BCIT Medford - but for those of us who went there then it will always be "Ossi Vo-Tech". They added some new shops (now called Career Majors) since I graduated in 1982 - Entertainment Technologies, Law and Public Safety, Information Technologies, Pre-Engineering, Performing Arts, Sports Medicine and Veterinary technology. They still have the same block scheduling, half a day of academics and a half day of vocational. The large addition to the front of the building off the driveway is a performing arts center.

At the Elizabeth Board of Education meeting of November 17 at John E. Dwyer Technology Academy, the Board celebrated and recognized excellent achievements of members of the Elizabeth Public Schools Professional Learning Community.
The Board recognized students of Dwyer Technology Academy who participate in the New Jersey Institute of Technology Pre-Engineering Program, which includes rigorous mathematics, science, and technology courses that provide students hands-on experiences to enable them to connect what they learn in school to different branches of engineering. Additionally, the Board recognized Dwyer Technology Academy senior Ja’Quan Mial for recently receiving an athletic scholarship to attend Rutgers University, along with Elizabeth Boys Track and Field head coach Austin Holman who was instrumental to Ja’Quan’s success; Woodrow Wilson School No. 19 eighth grade student Victoria Almeyda for being selected as one of 26 finalists among more than 2,000 contestants for the 2016 Gandhi Essay and Art Contest held by the Association of Indians in America, South Jersey Chapter, along with her art teacher Janna Ortiz for her dedication to artistic excellence; and Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Health & Public Safety Academy World Language Teacher
Barbara Fernandez for her act of heroism in saving a district student from potential harm.
Built on the Panamanian resort island of Contadora in the Gulf of Panama, this Topsider pedestal home has incredible Pacific Ocean seascape views. Building in remote island locations like this presents challenging shipping logistics, and requires precise pre-engineering and building component fabrication to assure fast and accurate assembly by local laborers. For this house, we provided everything needed for construction, including tools - plus all interior furnishings and accessories, linens and a complete kitchen package. We’ve been exporting our low-maintenance tropical homes worldwide since 1968.

Pitt Community College alumnus Kip Sloan competed in a 10K cycling race last month as part of the N.C. Senior State Games and finished fifth in his age group. The race—originally scheduled for September but postponed due to Hurricane Florence—took place Nov. 18 at the N.C. Highway Patrol Academy’s paved road course, where state troopers practice high-speed driving maneuvers. Sloan, a 2017 graduate of PCC’s Entrepreneurship program who is currently taking pre-engineering courses, completed the 6.2-mile event in 19 minutes and 11 seconds.

Well, this is the reference pic that I used for my mosaic. And, I've been tagged quite a few times, so I am making this my "tagged" photo
1. I have started my own Lego business where I sell nameplates, and custom commissions. I have been doing fairly well, and making some extra cash!
2. I love to read, draw, and build with Lego.
3. I also love architecture.
4. I am possibly doing a pre-engineering class. I am only 14 though, so the teachers are hesitant since the minimum age is supposed to be 15.
5. Because of that, I have to take the ACT tomorrow. And get a 18 in math. Has anyone taking the ACT? If so, what did you get in math?
6. I am sort of nervous. But if God wants me to take the class, than I will make an 18 or more!
7. Lemon Sherbet ice cream rocks.
8. I am running out of fact s to say. That is, facts that are semi-relevant to anything. Or course, this fact saying I am running out of facts isn't very relevant. Soooo...
9. I have improved so much this last year. I look at what I built last year, and I go "wow.. I made that?"
10. I really want to go to a Lego convention.
Engineering engulfs a vast variety of fields and one cannot restrict themselves to any certain possibility. The world is progressing every minute and the trends are changing rapidly and so are the needs. In order to deal with the challenges Industrial engineering is becoming a dire need and so...

#EIUFamily, this week’s #ResidentofEIU is Christobel Nweke.
Christobel is from Huntsville, Alabama. He is studying pre-engineering for two years then he will transfer to another institution in order to obtain a degree in computer engineering. He hopes to become a programmer or a computer hardware engineer for a big company such as Microsoft or Google.
He is the beatboxer of Eastern Euphonics, an acapella group. He also participates in his hall council and is the vice president of community engagement for RHA E-board. “Being involved means you get to speak and interact with others which is a great experience. You get to build relationships along the way and it has helped me with my communication skills as well for sure.”
Christobel advise #FuturePanther to live on campus, for it helps with the transition to university life. Christobel also said that incoming freshmen should be not afraid to talk to their RA or the faculty on campus since he has only had good experience with them. He found his RA was always there for him while transitioning to EIU and was always available to answer his questions. He also found faculty to care about his well-being on top of his success in their classes. They have always been happy to help him out with any issue.
When we asked Christobel what is his favorite memory so far at EIU, he said it was when he played the dodgeball intramurals at the beginning of the semester. Even though he has not played in a while, he gave it a try and had an absolute blast. He played on his RA’s team with his floormates, so he was able to share fun memories with his floormates and dominate the game!
Congratulations, Christobel, on being this week’s #ResidentofEIU. We hope you experience more fun filled memories here while achieving your degree to accomplish your dream career!
