Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺 Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji) is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Taitō, Tokyo. It is Tokyo's oldest temple, and one of its most significant.
On the photo we can see a tied prayer. In the background there is an alley called Nakamise Dori with almost 100 small shops with traditional japanese food, kimonos and tourist crap.

You are looking at a Buddhist prayer wheel I found walking the back alleys of Kathmandu. The inside of the wheel contains prayers written by monks on scrolls. It is believed that 500 prayers go into the heavans for each rotation of the wheel. You can see the sitting Buddha in the back right. Kathamandu is a city where you find Hinduism and Buddhism.

Devils Tower is seen as a sacred site by many of the Plains Tribes, including the Cheyenne, Lakota, Crow and Kiowa. Most of the Native names include Bear's House/Bear's Home/Bear's Teepee/Home of the Bears. This come from ancient legends about the tower, which vary by tribe.
The most famous is a Lakota/Kiowa story, about seven girls who went out to play and were found and chased by giant bears. To escape, the girls climbed up to a large rock and prayed to the Great Spirit to help. The Great Spirit heard their prayers, and suddenly the rock shot up into the sky. The bears tried to climb the rock, gorging deep marks into the sides of it, but ultimately the ascending tower proved too steep and they gave up, leaving the deeply gashed tower. The girls reached the sky and became the Pleiades.
An alternative version of the story has a boy being chased by a single giant bear, Mato, though the general story remains, the same, with the boy climbing the rock, Wakan Tanka shooting the rock towards the heavens, and Mato clawing marks into the tower trying to get the boy. In this version the boy is rescued by an eagle. The Cheyenne also have a similar story, though it involves the bears killing all but two of the girls, who then trick the bears into climbing to the already formed tower, whereupon their brothers were able to ambush and drive off the bears by firing at their paws.
A final legend comes from the Northern Cheyenne warrior Wooden Leg, who told a story of an old man who slept with a Bison head at the foot of the tower. In the morning, the man found himself and the bison head atop the tower. After a day of praying, the Old man woke up the day after to find himself back on the ground, though the bison head remained on top. The bison head remained visible for years, and became a symbol for the Northern Cheyenne.
All around Devils Tower are small prayer offerings, from the many tribal members who visit.

Generally, in Bhutan, prayer flags are hoisted for happiness, long life, prosperity, luck and merit and to offer karmic merit to all sentient beings. After one dies, the benefits of offering prayer flags is believed to guide the soul of the dead away from the netherworld and to prevent it from being reborn in the three lower realms (Nge Song Sum, animals, pret and life in hell) of the six life cycles: Lha (god), Lha Min (demi-god), humans, animals, pret, and life in hell, according to a Buddhist scholar, Dasho Lam Sanga.

This is a historical site in East Africa which has a big history about the coming and establishment of the Arabian rule and slave trade. The place is called Bagamoyo which is a Swahili word meaning "Here I rest my heart", it's a small town along the East African coast. The African slaves used to say those words crying for their lost freedom and abuse against humanity in their very own land.
Saying prayers here is a way of telling our fore fathers that we, their children, are free again, and we are still fighting against mental slavery.
Long live history!

Prayers
I am not so good at the whole prayer thing. But I did hope this couple's prayers were answered. Its the least I could do as I snapped this picture as I walked by.

Matched antique urnas with "JHS" and "AVM"monograms found in two separate antique shops, three years apart (!). Brass candlesticks acquired from the Vecin Collection and restored and electrified by Palayan Lamps.

Installed hand embroidered piece, "Prayer Flags" at the art gallery at Tacoma Community College show 'Pop Art' January 18th-May 3rd.
In creating these flags I was thinking more of consumerism and less of pop art.
This prayer wheel is the largest in the world at 21m high. Made of copper and painted with gold, it weighs 60 tonnes and takes 10 people to turn it. At over 3300m above sea level it is quiet a strenuous effort...
