Bachchan was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, in north central India. His ancestors hailed from a village called Babu pattiin the Raniganj taluka of Pratapgarh districtin Uttar Pradesh. His father Harivansh Rai Srivastava (Bachchan) was a well-known Hindi poet and his mother Teji Bachchan was a Punjabi Sikh from Lyallpur (now Faisalabad),Punjab .However, at the suggestion of fellow poet Sumi tranandan Pant, Harivansh Rai changed the boy's name to Amitabh, which means "the light that will never die."Although his surname was Shrivastava, Amitabh's father had adopted the pen name Bachchan ("child-like" in colloquial Hindi), under which he published all of his works. It is with this last name that Amitabh debuted in films and for all other practical purposes, Bachchan has become the surname for all of his immediate family. Bachchan's father died in 2003, and his mother in 2007.

On the Sethusamudram project too, the BJ P's position was weak and unconvincing -since the NDA Govt itself had .

Unfortunately, CPI-CPI(M)? is perfonning yet another political theatre of pretending to "oppose'· the deal. CPI-CPI(M)must explain : why afterall they are not asking for a vote on the deal in the Parliament? Why are CPI-CPI(M) interested only in ''pause" and "debate''(without vote) and not eject and reject? .

Not just this, the UPA Go\·t. is strengthening everyday its military, commercial and strategic ties with racist colonialist Israeli and the military dictatorship of Burma even in the face of their increasing brutality. Shockingly CPI-CPI(M) and their rcpn~sentatiYes in our campus, once again, never condemn UPA's military and commercial support with these killer and racist regimes. In the case of the Khammam firing also, it was the JNUSU VP and Gen. Secy who ealled for a Protest Demo. while the JNUSU President boycotted it! Such silences nnd boycotts can only be explained by the fact that CPI(M) itself is engaged in the vvorsl form of state repression and forced eviction of peasantry in West Bengal for SEZs! They ar·c silent on Khammam because in the mirror of Khammarn, they see the .
