Got bored while doing some work the other day, so I decided to take an 'old friend' out to catch up for a bit. Notice anything else music-related in this shot other than the objects in the middle? Nothing really impressive for the composition this time around, just an impromptu shot (ambient light) to deal with the stress.

Two papers down, six more to go, and five of them to tackle within the next week, sigh. I'm actually missing those benches along that walkway. Counting down to the days of freedom, and the end of yet another disastrous semester. It's somewhat unnerving when you realise your usually cheerful and bubbly friends (from school) have all become somewhat sullen and quieter. I really hate how stress wipes the smiles off the faces of people.

As for the title, it just seemed apt for this shot because that's really what happens in real life. We aren't always lucky enough to succeed with just one try, but things improve as we repeat them and become more familiar. I guess it can be applied to photography too, I think, be it the actual photo taking, or the post-processing. If we don't nail a shot the first time, analysing how things could have been done better tends to bring better results when we attempt it again.

I hope all our US friends had a wonderful Memorial Day holiday. 💗💗

Daisy and I kept it low-key....but I made sure my sweetie kept pretty just in case. You never know when I might need something from the store at a moments notice. 😉

This is Joshua practicing his glass blowing at a shop in Cabo San Lucas. We visited as part of an organized city tour and some people got to try out blowing a bubble of molten glass. The bubble at the end of the metal rod quickly cooled and then was broken, producing very thin glass shards that were discarded.

I would never call myself a car nut or car enthusiast, to be honest. A friend and I saw an advert for a car show some time back and we decided it was a good way to spend a warm Sunday afternoon. Our very first time at a vintage car show and it didn't disappoint.

So I have decided to start doing more things outside of my regular comfort zone. Never in a million years did I think about cars as a subject but trying something new is always Let's see how that goes. My blog post explains in a bit more detail and I've included the link to it in this caption.

Let's end this series on a high note. So I tried to practice my editing skills again. Like the last shot, this isn't the original image. This is another composite because I removed the background which was full of cars and people and changed the boring sky to this gorgeous blue. A lot easier than the last one because I didn't have to wonder about the windows because of the open hood. I must admit that I had so much fun with these edits and I'm planning a few new things like double exposures. Should I do more? Tell me what you think below. See if you can name that car too. ;)

To all of you, enjoy the weekend and have an awesome week ahead, wherever you are!

So this is my first attempt at putting together a collage style photo composed of multiple different layers captured at different windlights. Like a stack. I need to work on controlling light better so I can get highlights rather than just different colors. I kinda like it though!

As everyone was laying claim to their spots for the UP Big Boy to begin its northward journey from Poplar Bluff to St. Louis Missouri, UP MHOAS heads north out of Poplar Bluff and across the Black River. This train provided those already set up the opportunity to get a practice shot, checking exposures, focus points, and compositions before show time.

"Practice makes perfect". When not deployed, Tier 1 operators from the Special Operations Group spend countless hours on the range to perfect their shooting.

Ever since I became a Flickr member I've enjoyed the gorgeous Bald Eagle pictures of, for instance Imtoootall, Doug LLoyd, Nikographer, Fella-1 and Garnite (to name a few...).

I long to go to the places they live/visit, see the eagles with my own eyes, but it seems that my wishlist of 'must see before I die'-places only grows longer since I'm on Flickr and the time left only becomes shorter.. :-)

But.... there are vague plans to go to Vancouver Island in autumn. I've heard from a friend that there seem to be a lot of these flying beauties around there.....

Meanwhile, last sunday I went with friends and their kids to Beekse Bergen in Holland. Apart from it being a lovely day which really lifted the spirits of us sunstarved people in the Netherlands (:-), they had a wonderful show with birds of prey.

So here was my chance to practice a little! You might call it a small miracle that I haven't hit anyone on the head with the camera and lens but I was só eager to get at least one shot right!

Ok, it might not (yet) be the real stuff, and it doesn't come near the quality of the above mentioned gentlemen's shots, but still I've enjoyed seeing this wonderful eagle fly enormously. (and at least it felt real !!! :-) )

About

I've put a 'CANON 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens' on lay buy, so I thought I'd do some practice shots at around 70mm with my trusty kit lens!

I don't plan on using the new glass for landscapes, but there will be sometimes when I will, and I want to challenge myself to work within this focal length, tighter crops etc

- ISO 100, f9, 1/320, 70mm

- Canon 75-300 Kit lens.

- Tripod.

Processing

- Off camera.

- 'Landscape' calibration in Lightroom 2.2.

- A small 'photoshopped' bird for a bit of fun, (bird shots are taken at same location).

ODC Theme: Afternoon

Lazy Sunday afternoons are a perfect time to practice scales and arpeggios.

This is my youngest. He knocked out some 80's rock for me while posing and letting me practice with my lighting. Oddly enough, he wasn't posing here, he was just looking at something behind him. I ended up liking it the best even though he's not playing his guitar here. I liked it so much when I took it I had him do several poses similar to this one.
