Every Christmas, in deference to the former practices of the GDR and my general nostalgia for old Soviet metal, I like to build one of the natty little 1/100th scale airliner kits made in East Germany by VEB Plasticart. They are quite simple and often (as in this case) you need two kits in order to get enough good parts to make one decent model. But in their favour, the 1/100th scale is quire close to the old imperial 1/96th scale used by Frog and has the charm of a travel agent model. Also in the intervening years, decent quality decals have become available for these kits from Revaro Decal in Moscow. These really are a joy and I chose the AN-24A "Firebird" Aeroflot scheme for my new Antanov. I'm pleased with it, I hope you like it too!

Liam was practicing fishing with his Scooby Doo fishing pole with a "F-117 Stealth Fighter Plane plug" (Scooby Doo and a fighter plane? And what's a plug?), while his cousin David fished with a worm and bobber attached to his G.I. Joe fighting pole (it too came with a "F-117 Stealth Fighter Plane plug" - which I think makes a little more sense.

This is my photo to announce to all my flickr friends that my wife and I are adopting a little girl from Vietnam!! We are super excited as we get closer and closer to traveling to pick her up... We started the process back in February (2007) and we may be traveling in early September... If you would like to read my wife's blog about the process go here
