A Big Mess rehearsal from way back in the early nineties. Dean with beard, Randy without beard, I don't know what was going on! But that's his crazy Deagan marimba from the twenties or something, that's so fragile it doesn't travel any more, so this had to be in the first couple of years. Maybe '92 or '93? Aerospace Engineering Professor of Practice George Halow designed the X88 courses to work in conjunction with each other and with industry partners. The courses grew out of research that indicates academia and industry are not making all the necessary connections in terms of preparing students well to go into the work force. For the 2023-2024 year X88 focused on eight projects co-developed with corporate partners: creating a hack-proof drone with Belcan, two projects with Blue Origin: designing the payload for the next Shepard rocket and a launch with the MASA Student Project Team, a VR/AR portable console with Collins and Siemens, a wheelchair accessibility project with Collins, a sustainable aviation project with General Electric, machine learning for drones with Leidos, and a hybrid electric propulsion project with Pratt Whitney. The courses focus on teamwork, industry design schedules, trial and error and real world applications.
