Yoga. It's not for me. I wish it was - I'd love to be more stretchy and bendy and fitter and more spiritual. I really would. But I'd much rather choose a good run over twisting myself into inconceivable positions.

I do, however, love to watch yoga being practiced, seeing the beautiful bodies slowly lift into handstands, rise up into the downward dog, and so on, and on, and on!

From Wikipedia:

Yoga (Sanskrit, Pāli: योग yóga) refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines that originated in India.[1] The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Within Hinduism, it refers to one of the six orthodox (āstika) schools of Hindu philosophy, and to the goal towards which that school directs its practices. In Jainism, yoga is the sum total of all activities — mental, verbal and physical.

Major branches of yoga in Hindu philosophy include Rāja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga. According to the authoritative Indian philosopher Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, yoga, based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, comprises one of the six main Hindu schools of philosophy (darshanas), together with Kapila's Samkhya, Gautama's Nyaya, Kanada's Vaisheshika, Jaimini's Purva Mimamsa, and Badarayana's Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta. Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

The Sanskrit word yoga has many meanings, and is derived from the Sanskrit root "yuj," meaning "to control," "to yoke" or "to unite." Translations include "joining," "uniting," "union," "conjunction," and "means." It is also possible that the word yoga derives from "yujir samadhau," which means "contemplation" or "absorption." This translation fits better with the dualist Raja Yoga because it is through contemplation that discrimination between prakrti (nature) and purusha (pure consciousness) occurs.

Someone who practices yoga or follows the yoga philosophy to a high level of attainment is called a yogi or yogini.

I used 2B pencil on A3 paper and no blenders. I hope you like it :)

It took me about a week. A couple of hours a day, sometimes twice a day. Watching and studying this Kingfisher. Learning its routine. Where does it perch? How often does it dive for fish? (Sometimes only once an hour.) How far does it dive from its perch? Which direction does it fly? I processed all the behavioral information, now it was time to work on technique. Which focus mode? How do I time the shutter release? What settings, and much, much more. Then it was trial and error and error and error. A couple of "almost got it". Finally, late in the afternoon, on the last day of July, success. Belted Kingfisher coming out of the water with a fish.

Actually spent a lot of time on the hair for this one, and sadly I don't really think it comes across.. But then again it's gorgeous hair to begin with ♥ Other than that, I'm quite pleased ^^ Yay for progress right?

By renowned practice Bradshaw, Gass and Hope, 1929-32. Rebuilt after WWII bomb damage, completed 1961. Contemporary inter-war classical complex on wedge shaped site, consisting of D-plan Library and Registrar's Office with straight front to road, small Porter's Lodge to side and free-standing rectangular-plan Theatre (formerly Town Hall) off-centre to rear with curving colonnade corresponding to Library. Cream sandstone ashlar. Curved colonnade of paired Roman Doric columns, corners contain top-lit open lobbies to theatre entrances, each with 2 pairs of glazed timber doors and fanlights (main entrance to left, stage entrance to right).

This extensive inter-war classical composition is set tightly on a prominent corner site and it is a major example of this building type for the period. Demonstrates good stone detailing with columned loggia. A prominent public commission by a successful English practice who came to specialise in Methodist churches and civic complexes during the inter-war period. Bradshaw, Gass and Hope's extraordinary output is comparable to that of Vincent Harris, with commissions for other civic complexes won at Wimbledon, Stratford, Lewisham, Luton, Chesterfield and Padiham. The practice was responsible for the reconstruction after it was bomb-damaged in World War 2.

Built on the site of North Leith Manse as a condition of Leith's final incorporation with Edinburgh. After many years of disuse the theatre is now in some disrepair and, although back in occasional use, is still fundraising.

Some more snap shots and practice with the 135 f/2.0 before the big shoot on Sunday! Hopefully I'll have some stuff up from that shoot Sunday night. Hope everyone is having a good Friday!

Before the concert kicks off!

I wanna practice . eventually she figured out the ball goes in the glove on the other end.

Those of you who have been visiting my stream for the last two years are familiar with our annual January Buck Jump Competition. For those who are new, in a nut shell we can't afford horses so we go to great lengths to train our deer to jump our neighborhood fences on command. You get points for how high they jump, how fast they jump on command, and the judges also can add a few points on grace/artistic merit. During the second weekend in January we all get together and put our bucks and does through their paces and make a day of it with a big chili cook off at night. Lots of fun had by the whole neighborhood.

This year, my neighbor has started training his prize buck, Hoppy, early. He was supposed to win last year, but a young upstart went a few inches higher than Hoppy and we had an upset.

When I'm supposed to be working, I practice all types of processing techniques. This is a blend of 3 exposures, with quite a bit of editing that followed. Going for a "fairy tale" type of look.

Practice makes perfect - along the River Cam, Cambridge.

Variation of an eight rowing boat used in competition. This is a coxed four. Boat Classifications.

An "eight" is a rowing boat, powered by eight rowers, four oars to each side, and steered by a rudder, the rudder being handled by the ninth crew member - the "cox" or co-ordinator.

The role of the cox is particularly important as the rowers face backwards to the direction of travel.

This style of boat, or perhaps more commonly its smaller variations, is a common site on the River Cam, and is used in competition, notably the Cambridge/Oxford Boat Race.

This man or woman, i am really not sure =), was taking a shot of the sail.

can predict the motions of your mind,

lose it. Leave it as a sign

The quote above is an except from a wonderful poem by Wendell Berry entitled, "Manifesto:

The Mad Farmer Liberation Front". I highly recommend you read it, in particular out loud. It's a remarkable poem, both content-speaking and in terms of flow: the fast-slow cadence, the words that roll and tumble about in your head, and the all too serious humor contained within.

This was taken last Spring, and was one of the many cherry tree images that I have left to post. It was, of course, taken with the Hasselblad 500 C/M.

I'm going to the UK on Thursday to have a course with Eddie Spence MBE! Sooooo excited... :)

As any self respecting Lenfel will tell you, one does not just become a master archer, rather it takes years of constant practice. Thus within Lenfald, a nation of master archers, scenes like this are extremely common. In the fields and forests, all over the nation, one can see archers, often of both sexes, practicing their skills just about anywhere.

When young osprey are learning to fly they exaggerate their moves especially when they land. This is a learning curve for them but great opportunities for us as photographers. This guy made three attempts to get to this nest until he finally figured it out.
