Used a DSLR for the first time this week... my three most recent photos are from my experiments with an aperture opening thats actually smaller than 8.0. Yay!
Ever since I became a Flickr member I've enjoyed the gorgeous Bald Eagle pictures of, for instance Imtoootall, Doug LLoyd, Nikographer, Fella-1 and Garnite (to name a few...).
I long to go to the places they live/visit, see the eagles with my own eyes, but it seems that my wishlist of 'must see before I die'-places only grows longer since I'm on Flickr and the time left only becomes shorter.. :-)
But.... there are vague plans to go to Vancouver Island in autumn. I've heard from a friend that there seem to be a lot of these flying beauties around there.....
Meanwhile, last sunday I went with friends and their kids to Beekse Bergen in Holland. Apart from it being a lovely day which really lifted the spirits of us sunstarved people in the Netherlands (:-), they had a wonderful show with birds of prey.
So here was my chance to practice a little! You might call it a small miracle that I haven't hit anyone on the head with the camera and lens but I was só eager to get at least one shot right!
Ok, it might not (yet) be the real stuff, and it doesn't come near the quality of the above mentioned gentlemen's shots, but still I've enjoyed seeing this wonderful eagle fly enormously. (and at least it felt real !!! :-) )
A visit to Loch of Kinnordy, a 45 minute drive from us, where the Bittern has been showing nicely recently. Not today however, so a spot of practice on the Herons there, so I'll be ready for the main event! Actually to be quite honest, I'm happy enough with Herons - love the long snaky neck. But a Bittern would be nice all the same.

About
I've put a 'CANON 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens' on lay buy, so I thought I'd do some practice shots at around 70mm with my trusty kit lens!
I don't plan on using the new glass for landscapes, but there will be sometimes when I will, and I want to challenge myself to work within this focal length, tighter crops etc
- ISO 100, f9, 1/320, 70mm
- Canon 75-300 Kit lens.
- Tripod.
Processing
- Off camera.
- 'Landscape' calibration in Lightroom 2.2.
- A small 'photoshopped' bird for a bit of fun, (bird shots are taken at same location).
Can't wear this yet under "combat" conditions--too wintry out! But at least I can see if it works or not.
First time taking the Phantom 4 Pro+ out for ferroequine pursuits, with the intention of capturing the 'purple boi'. If only I'd taken it a split second earlier...
EMR's unique purple powercar, 43274, leads 1C61 (the 1431 Leeds - London St. Pancras Int'l HST) over Fourteen Arches Viaduct, Wellingborough, with fellow celeb powercar 43102 "The Journey Shrinker" in tow.
Happy holidays everyone! It has been quiet over the holiday season, and quite cold at Evergarden. Jet and I have been working on various things over the course of December; mainly Dressage with some jumping here and there to keep his brain going. Today was one of those days where I jumped. He was a bit spicy today during the warm up, and in the beginning was refusing and spooking at the decorations that were put up on some of the jumps. I had to revert his attention and get him to calm down and focus his brain on something else by doing serpentines, transition changes, and different patterns. I walked him over to some of the scary decorations and allowed him to sniff at them, praising him every step of the way.
Other than the spooking and the spiciness in the beginning, the jumping went ok. It wasn't our worst time jumping, but it wasn't our best either. I tried to make the most out of today's riding session and called it a day once we had some few successful jumps; mainly by the problems areas. I praised him for every amount of try that he did give.
Ah horses. It is always something new when working with them.
