After the rain, the Grackles were back out in force, gobbling up the soggy remains of the Goodie Bowls.
They have been here for a few weeks now, eating everything in sight with their voracious appetites. I'm ready for them to leave now as they are eating me out of house and home but even so, sometimes their antics are amusing to watch.

Taller tamarack trees make for perfect perches from which to sound the alarm for other males to stay away.
In Montreal's botanical garden, 5 minutes from home, this heron made my day.
It was a beautiful and hot day and I had been unlucky at 2 other spots earlier. Just when I was about to leave the park to go home, I spot a Cooper's hawk soaring in the sky. As I try to follow him, I'm back at the pond where I was just 15 minutes before. This time I see a couple all excited, they are quietly observing something going on in the pond. It is this great blue heron busy trying to swallow a big catfish he just caught (see other photo).
After this 1st meal, he was back on the hunt. This time I take a seat by the pond to observe him, just 10 feet away from the heron. After a while, I see him staring at something and taking the stealth posture...and BAM he strikes again to catch this 2nd good size fish. And boy did he impale this fish!
I never been this close to a great blue heron fishing, what an amazing spectacle!
The robins are in to full territorial battling. I have definitely at least 6. My wee one that feeds from the hand is still here and quite often I end up with a battle royal on my hand! Anyway this guy was engaged in a posturing battle along this wall with the steam from the melting frost rising up the sunny side. Great to have sun (and also a chance to lift my head from my books. My law degree has really ramped up this year!)
The obelisk posture is a handstand-like position that some dragonflies and damselflies assume to prevent overheating on sunny days.
The elk is one of the largest land mammals in North America and eastern Asia. Male elk have large antlers which are shed each year. I love to shoot big birds with different postures, as if they’re fashion models. This is a painted stork.
I was sitting lower yesterday to try and capture mating stilts from a different angle. A pair of pintails warily passed by and for a moment he posed for me.

Great to see the posing and posturing today at Westhay before it clouded over, saw lots of 'stuff', just not a great day for photography... the forty mile an hour wind didn't help. :@D
I estimate she is about ten years old. Yet she had a lipstick, a nail polish, and all her body posture and presence were of a much more mature girl.
She is lighting a candle here, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, as many pilgrims do.
