Looking up Post Alley, which runs between the main streets in downtown Seattle, from Pike Place Public Market south.

This picture was taken as part of a tour round the city of Seattle with Shutter Tours, who specialise in guiding budding photographers to points of interest and showing them the sights in a new way.

My guide Kristi was most helpful and showed me a lot of places I wouldn’t have seen otherwise and, as I was the only person on the tour this day, she was able to help me with various things. I even took some pictures of people – which is most unlike me.

The tour was really good and if you’re ever in Seattle and fancy spending three hours or so getting to see some of the more unusual sights, as well as some of the better-known ones, check out www.shuttertours.com – ooh, I sound like an advert!

Blog post about my visit to the Oklahoma City National Memorial

My wife, myself, and two other couples visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial last night. We had been told that it had the most impact at night so after dark we took the walk from OKC's Bricktown to the memorial. We chatted loudly as we walked the streets but naturally became somber and hushed in tone as we arrived at the city block where the bombing occurred.

Our entrance was through a 4-story tall bronze "gate" which led to a 1" deep reflecting pool which replaced the street along which the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building once stood. There was a bronze gate at the other end of the pool as well.

Shortly after our arrival we were approached by Tucker, one of the National Park Service employees. He was quite friendly and asked if we had any questions so one of our company asked him to explain the various pieces of symbolism contained in the memorial. Tucker did a fantastic job explaining the memorial with great enthusiasm -- I will be writing the park service to commend him. As I recall there were 8 major elements in the memorial. The bronze "Gates of Time" represented the minute before the life-changing event. This gate was marked "9:01" -- one minute of innocence before the blast. The other gate was labeled "9:03" to mark the first minute into the healing process after the blast. The reflecting pool is there to allow one to look into it and see a life forever changed by what happened.

The "Field of Empty Chairs" was the most significant part of the memorial to me. The field itself is the footprint of the former building. Each chair has the name of a victim and was placed in such a way as to indicate the floor of the building where the person was killed. I attempted some pictures -- all I had was a basic point-and-shoot camera -- but none are good enough to post .

Other symbols included the Survivor Wall, Survivor Tree, Rescuers' Orchard, Children's Area, and the Fence. Tucker explained each one and even gave us insight into why the memorial's designers chose to represent things as they did. However, I'll leave it to you to read about these on the internet if you are interested.

Despite the poor quality of the pictures I decided to post a couple anyway and I encourage each of you to take a bit of time to remember the victims of this horrible tragedy. We marked our remembrance by doing something Tucker suggested. We dipped our hands in the reflecting pool and placed them on the bronze gates for a few seconds. This leaves a lasting hand print on the bronze -- a lasting mark of our visit.

I'm bicycling east on Camelback. It's about a quarter after 12am and cold enough so I can see my breath if I puff hard. It's very nice. But then I hear a, bang, Bang and then a moment passes and another, Bang. The third one sounded closer. I glance back wondering if someone is killing someone or if I'm just paranoid. It could be a car backfiring. But a car, east-bound, slows down on the street a few lanes away from me. BANG! It's so loud it hurts my ears. I'm not sure what just happens. The car pulls away, but stops at the red light on 16th and Camelback where evangelists gather to scream at all the sinners. I'm pretty sure I was just shot at. That sound is fucking scary. It all around me and wouldn't leave. My lungs flatten and I take in some air. I ride towards the CVS and go inside to call the police. Maybe they had already got some similar reports. They hadn't. Some officers, show up while the 911 operator is talking to me about the car and drivers or driver. "No, It was too dark," I say. I don't know anything about cars anyway. "It was brown, boxy and old." If I knew more about cars at the time I would have said It looked like a brown Buick Regal, maybe '82.

I hope it rains more.

Bristol Archive Records is a record label dealing in Bristol post punk 1977 onwards.

We aim to showcase music from the diverse Bristol Music scene and provide a historical account / document of all things Bristol that should never be forgotten. Many of the artists and releases are rare, unknown or never before released. The material has been lovingly digitally remastered from vinyl, ¼ inch tape, dat or cassette. The original vinyl releases would generally have been limited to runs of 1000 copies or less.

We would like to thank the original label owners and/or the artists for allowing us to share with you their forgotten works and provide a statement of how brilliant bands have always been from the city of Bristol and the surrounding areas.

Enjoy and never forget the talented ones from the past,

they deserve to be recognised & remembered.

The only physical remnant of the Post Oak community, this cemetery began as the burial ground for the family of Isham McMillin, who acquired land in this part of Bell County in 1855. The oldest marked grave, that of McMillin's daughter Elizabeth, dates from 1857. Several graves, marked by piles of stones or illegible markers, may predate Elizabeth's burial.

A large proportion of graves mark the burial sites of infants and children, testament to the harshness of frontier life as Anglo settlers moved into the area. Buried here are members of a number of pioneer families, including the Edwards, Fulton, Sinclair and Ezell families. Isham McMillin, who died in 1861, is buried here, as is another McMillin daughter, Mary (1852-1864).

In 1873, Sarah McMillin sold two acres of land to the deacons of Mountain Home Baptist Church for the purpose of building a church and schoolhouse. The mountain home church came to be called Post Oak Baptist Church, as did the school and community. The school consolidated with the Center Lake School District in 1916 and later became part of the Holland public school system. The Post Oak Baptist Church continued to meet until a 1952 fire destroyed the church building and the congregation disbanded.

Burials continue to take place in the graveyard, and the Post Oak Cemetery Association, organized in 1951, cares for the cemetery, which stands as a reminder of early Bell County settlement. (2001) (Marker No. 12512)

Elaine Cooper and I were kicked out of the SC Freedom Summit for behaving 'inappropriately' (Elaine was inside the speakers hall; I was in the lobby). Elaine was threatened with arrest three times, the last time for trying to ask Ben Carson questions.
