My feeble first attempt at a Saturday Evening Post magazine cover. A parody of the covers that appeared in this era. I used a photo from a kids birthday party as the basis.

This is really just so the folks back home in Ireland can see where I live.

For Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday “gratitude” challenge using “stained linen” texture.

This picture was taken about a week after Steve Jobs’ death at the Palo Alto, CA(his home) Apple store . The storefront was covered with post-it-notes written to him, thanking him for his contributions. Some of them were surprisingly poignant. As a big time Apple fan, I found it interesting and sadly, sweet. (see another shot below)

Perhaps too easy to guess but unexpected in a former Soviet Socialist Republic.

a little video showing the BTS on an interiors shot.

The shot was taken on a Canon 5d mk3, using the Zeiss Otus 55mm f1.4

Lighting was done with a GL1 hot light.

Post production was done using PS CC.

Construction of the post buildings had begun. By 1906, when this work was complete, a total of 29 buildings had been erected. These included officers' and noncommissioned officers' quarters, barracks, kitchen, bakehouse, messhall, hospital, and administration buildings, workshops, stables, and storage sheds. Water and sewerage systems, brick roads, and outlying fire control installations completed the facilities of the base, which occupied an area of 613 acres.

Fort DeSoto was garrisoned by a company of regular Army artillerymen from 1904-1910. Isolation, lack of recreational facilities, and the incessant assaults of swarms of mosquitos made the post all but unendurable. The monotony of garrison duty was broken on three occassions when joint maneuvers were held with the militia units designated to man the post in event of mobilization. In June, 1910, the garrison company was withdrawn. (1)

The post was officially abandoned in 1923. Within ten years, destruction of the facility by the elements was nearly complete. Only three of the original 29 buildings were still standing, and Battery Bigelow had collapsed, a victim of beach erosion. Battery Laidley was still structurally sound, but its mortar carriages and other metalwork were badly deteriorated, and its further usefulness was considered "extremely doubtful". (1)

The Lavatory, constructed in 1900-01 at a cost of $5,547, covered 1,006 square foeet and had facilities designed to serve one company (106 soldiers) - sixteen wash basins, five showers, two tubs, eight toilets, and eight urinals. (from local signage)

pâques à l'ïle // Finistère - Bretagne

this is for lesson 11, post processing, these are not my images!

1. River, I tweaked the exposure a bit, making it a bit kinder on the eyes and also cropped the picture,

2. Leaf, there were 2 black spots on it, and I used the spot healing brush to remove it,

3. Spider web, we were to get creative on this one, so I added a cute little spider and named it Charlotte,

I am a bit behind on my assignments due to my lap top being plagued by malware so I will be posting lots of pictures this week, so bare with me, things will get back to normal soon! No need to comment, I know I am behind on commenting so no rush on commenting my photos!
