This is a possible entry for Week 25, Assignment 2 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

The color Red. As suggested in the official Assignments Sugggestion Thread by FadderUri, we've seen blue and green, but never red! Red is a very powerful color, a little bit may go a looong way. Passionate and hot, this color can speak volumes.

Today Annie Ann and I went to Rocks State Park to the Falling Branch area to see the Kilgore Rocks Waterfall. The last time I was there was back in March and things were the same, just a lot greener.

Annie had never been here and when she mentioned wanting to go, I jumped at another chance or rather a reason to go back. It's a pretty area, as long as you get there early. It is apparently quite a popular spot for those than know it is there. I know *boheme*'s sister was there a few weeks ago, and I learned of them from Pi C.

At about noon it starts getting a bit crowded and there are too many people all over getting in the way of shots (well shots without people that is) so you have to get there a bit early if you want a nice shot.

If confirmed, I have spotted a nova in M31.

Shades of when I first met Jieun's mom, but one of the first things we do in Korea is go get me a haircut. I think I've said this before, but it's shocking how much more stylish Koreans are now compared to when I was first there. But yeah, I now feel unstylish for being an American in Korea, which is somewhat odd.

Hairstyle in particular has changed a lot. So like, short tapered hair is out. It's all about longish hair, but still kinda spiky on top. The messed up look is in. And highlights are out. They all dye their hair a solid color now, no streaks. None of this looks appealing to me, so it's just like shoes, I have no idea what looks good, I just have to go with something and hope it looks OK.

So she cuts my hair in a very weird way, trying as much as possible to make it stick up. Dunno if you can tell in this pic, but yeah, that's the look. It looked absolutely awful to me, so if I look dazed in this pic, there's a reason.

It is possible that some people think like I did and assume that all the sightseeing buses are operated by private companies ! In fact Lothian have either acquired or made it their business to run them. Here 507, a Dennis Trident/Plaxton President with open top is hidden underneath the garish red colour scheme. Aird Uig - Gallan Head - WWI Coastal Watching Post

Possible observation post, slightly East of North of the enclosure in Canmore ID 334621.

There is a similar one in Pembrokeshire which has some names scratched on rocks which identify as RN WWI. Also reported to be some on Orkney.

NB 0515 3919 (estimated)

Local tradition is that it was WWI. Not on 1st or 2nd Edition OS Map.

No roof, wall has coping stones on top. Built of stone.

'Faces' North West. Two 'rooms', first one has entrance (890MM wide) on North East side with metal ring in stone at right of entrance, a few inches from the ground. Room is 1925MM wide and 1968MM deep with wall about 1824 high and 616MM thick.

Entrance (886MM wide) into inner 'room' which is 1969MM wide and 1975MM deep. Wall about 2020MM high.

There is a concrete block 15" x 16" in front of the structure with four bolts in it - these are not in an regular pattern / shape.

It faces out to sea but anyone inside would need to stand on a platform to look out.

A call for a possible structure fire was dispatched around 4:30 pm for a reported fire in a home under construction on Mountain Street, near St. Mark School in Beamsville. Upon arrival crews had a strong burning odour in the area and could see light smoke coming from the eaves of a new-build townhouse unit. Firefighters quickly stretched a 45mm line and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading further and saving the adjoining units from damage. No injuries were reported by either Fire crews or construction personnel, as Niagara EMS stood-by on scene.

"The Possible Mediums conference is composed of a series of workshops and panel discussions revolving around four “possible mediums.” Challenging the boundaries of architectural convention, the invited workshop leaders employ exploratory processes rooted in mediums external to the discipline (such as film or comics) or developed from atypical applications of more conventional mediums (such as drawings or models). The technical sophistication and inventive applications of their work reflect two major developments within speculative architecture of the past decade: a broad diffusion of technological expertise and a shift from critical to projective theory. Preserving commitment to expertise and imagination, Possible Mediums places this group of designers in productive dialog, unpacking their collective foundations and futures."

This is an image taken along the creek by my apartment a few days ago. In the distance is what I believe to be a limpkin (Aramus guarauna) or some kind of crane. Limpkins (as well as cranes) are an example of an organism with an altricial type parental investment, as their young are born helpless and require attention from parents in order to survive. Energy and resources are spent caring for the young for a longer period of time.

Another possible for PR Empty theme comp - think I`ll stick with the boats still

This is my cousin's son. I spent about 2 hours chasing him around the house and trying to get his picture. Of course the photos from the first hour needs to be deleted. But he warmed up to me eventually. This is one of the last ones that I managed to take and its 1 of 2 that came out brilliantly. Taken with the Canon EOS 5D, 85mm f/1.2L and the 580EX flash. The lens didn't let me down when taken wide open at f/1.2. The eyes are tack sharp and there's a nice catch light.

RAW processing was done in Canon DPP and bw conversion in PS Elements. I had to be really careful with the dodging and burning on this one. The very fine facial hair was difficult to deal with. And I can't darken the highlights on the cheek without bringing out the fine facial hair. Any help would be appreciated. What could I have done earlier at the exposure stage or at the post processing stage.

p/s I really can't get over his pearl teeth.....

Possibly a bridge here or a water outlet into Limehouse Cut?

This work was made possible through a construction bond passed in November 2008 by voters within Salem-Keizer Public Schools boundaries.

Voters passed a local measure for a $242.1 million construction bond to repair and renovate local schools, and to address overcrowding.

Construction of the WW2 coastal artillery battery started in late 1939 or early 1940 as 2 Officers and 39 OR deployed from Grey Point Fort to man the newly installed 6-inch guns at Magilligan in the summer of 1940. While 3 positions are marked on the map, it seems that in November 1940 No. 2 Gun was relocated, presumably to the new No. 3 position. I can only speculate as to this decision, but it is likely that while No. 1 and No. 2 positions gave good coverage into the Atlantic, there was no rear protection into the Lough, and with the U-boat threat very high at the time, it must have been decided to relocate to No. 3 position in order to provide an element of rear protection should an enemy vessel reach the lough.

Nearly 80 years after its construction there is not much remaining of what was the only coastal artillery battery protecting Lough Foyle. The living quarters (primarily the cookhouse and other ranks accommodation) were Nissen huts, which have now gone; but their concrete bases remain, as do the stone hearths for the stoves that would have adored the centre of each hut. The regimental institute was a larger building, which I am also assuming was made from corrugated iron sheet, as was the sergeants mess – common construction for temporary buildings of the time. Officers were accommodated in the now demolished Point Hotel, and both the cottages and public house were requisitioned and utilised as accommodation, both living and administrative. The only gun position that remains in any substantial form is No. 3, where the position mounting bolts are visible along with the ready use ammunition lockers under the position, but also the magazine and gun crew shelter are in good condition – if albeit sand covered and overgrown.

Of note, two notable features that are identifiable are the Barr & Stroud (rangefinder) position which is now the site of a modern CCTV mast, and possibly the eastern (No. 1) searchlight platform; although map overlays suggest the searchlight was closer to the rangefinder. Using the topography of the dunes, the rangefinder was positioned on the highest point behind No. 1 gun position, and the searchlight on a man made platform to it’s front. The 1812 Martello tower was also modified and used as the Battery Observation Post with No.2 gun close by.
