I stopped by the Camera Company today with a simple question, which is really no matter to this stranger story. Alas, I waited for a few minutes as they were assisting a man with 35mm film. I couldn't help but notice the beautiful camera and lens combination in his hand, and knew that at that instant I wanted to take his photograph. We all chatted for a brief moment on the benefit to the Nikon system being so interchangeable between digital and 35mm. After brief conversation he left, and I was able to ask my question; but I still wanted to capture the man with the magnificent camera!
As luck may have it, I did my usual up and down walk of State Street and when I reached the 100 Block we ran into one another again. This time I was able to make a little more conversation with him, introducing myself as Chris and he informed me that his name was Brent. Quickly learning the ins and outs of his photographic style, he told, me that he prefers film over digital. Though he did admit that shooting so much digital sometimes creates a false reality, as often he finds himself looking at the back of his 35mm SLR to review images. I explained to him my project of shooting the strangers of Madison, and asked if I could include him in the project. As most photographers do, he agreed and posed nicely for me against the glass windows on Overture Center for the Arts. Quickly adjusting my settings, I fired a few frames off; but he told me that I should take a photo of him with his camera to his eye. As often enough that is how his subjects see him, while I tried that I like this more classic pose.
I learned through our conversation that Brent recently made his first ebay purchase, in fact it was a mint Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens. While he didn't specify what version, I've owned a number of Nikkor 50mm an always had good luck with them. He acknowledged that he was a bit leery of the offer as it was being auctioned from Japan (home to Nikon at that) but four quick days later he had his new lens. He stated that it looked as good as new and came in the original box and everything, I hope that we cross paths again someday so I can take a look at the lens. Today he was shooting with a 135mm f2 AI-S lens, a tack sharp of a telephoto (1981-2005).
In parting I gave him a link to my Flickr page, so that he could sort out finding his photograph and story included for the 100 strangers project. He did inform me that I should consider a name change as "local paparazzi" could bring up all sorts of bad results. I assured him that I have a large following, and thus upon searching Google the first result is a link to my photostream. All the more reason to get business cards made out, but that's another step for another day!

Senor Moses is one of several fishing boat sales people who ply the beaches of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa representing individual fishermen and their pangas.
Moses has been doing this for 35 years.
About Zihuatanejo Fishing:
Very high volume Pacific sailfish is the main offshore quarry, supplemented by a good seasonal mix of blue marlin and some black marlin, dorado or mahi-mahi, and yellowfin tuna that can range into the 300-pound class.
These fish are chased by a wide variety of commercial and sportfishing pangas and super pangas, and larger charter fishing boats, and all species can be caught anywhere from the mouth of Zihuatanejo Bay, to about 20 or 30 miles, or farther out, depending on what the currents are up to that day.
Inshore fishing at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo features jack crevalle called "yellowtail jack" locally, roosterfish, ladyfish, various snappers, groupers, sierra, barracuda, and other fish species caught right off the local surf line.

On my way back down the trail from the Poas Volcano Crater a work crew was busy clearing underbrush. They spotted my camera and all were mugging for a photo. This lovely calm senior doggie appeared to be a full time resident at the Hotel Mirador Posada Barrancas on Urique Canyon. It was always around the front entrance but never interfered or got in anyones way. It was just there acting like the hotel's doorman (door doggie).
This was taken a few month's ago the hare actually came closer as I took the shots believe it or not!
I tried moving a little bit and it realised what I was and shot off!!
After having lunch at the lovely Hillside Estates Winery Bistro on the Naramata Bench (and more wine to drink), this young girl asked me to take her photo with her camera and then agreed I could take one with mine.
Ms Sophia belongs to my friend Sherry, she came to stay with us all day yesterday... Here is one of the many shots i was able to capture .... ( a very active puppy ) She played with our cat , Ms Cappuccino, all day... :)

Stranger things have happened.
Today I went to a trade in event for old unused camera gear at the Camera Company on Madison's east side. The services were being provided by none other then one of my favorite online retailers for gear, KEH.com (out of Marietta Georgia). I went in on lunch, not anticipating that I would have much of a wait as it was still in the first hour of the event. Boy was I wrong, it took me at least five minutes to find a parking spot in the strip mall; but for lunch time I figured this to be quite normal. Unfortunately as I walked into the Camera Company with my D90 and a bag full of lenses, I was taken back by the countless people sitting in chairs waiting. At the door was a ticket dispenser, and as I started to walk towards a display case to look at a lens; I was scolded by an old man who spoke sternly "take a number!"
As I weaved my way through the maze of people and grabbed a number (F16), and then went to the back of the line. It was obvious that I was going to be unable to claim a spot. I asked an employee and how late they would be accepting tickets for the event and was a little upset to find that after 5:00 p.m. they would stop. I was scheduled until 5, and with a little traffic was going to be pushing my chances in coming after work. I again went through the maze to find myself out the door, still with my bag of camera gear and a wallet with nothing but my F16 tag in it. I paced nervously the next 1.5 hours of my shift, and when I called at 4:30 and asked what number they were on; to my surprise they were at F28. Sadly my number had been passed on, but I was informed that there was no one waiting at that time. So fast forward to 5:00, I shifted out and bolted for the door and was at the shop in no more then five minutes.
I came in, with the heavy bag over my shoulder and my 5D Mark II on my neck. I was met with a smile by a few people behind the counters and a friendly hello from a man leaving as I was entering. Standing in the light I looked at the table, and saw a young man with a beat up box full of old film camera's at the table. I wondered inside, why had I not brought anything like that? I was in fact bringing my whole Nikkor collection (minus the defective D2h and my FE), the switch to the Dark Side would commence today. At least that's what I've been telling myself since I started shooting Canon 6 months ago. The man at the table unloaded the camera's from the box, and sadly found that most of the 35mm was worth little to nothing in trade in value. But as I was called over to the table by the KEH representative, the man with the box of cameras looked over at me.
With a quizzical look on his face, he exclaimed "I know you!" and I spoke to him, "You are Austin" as I'd seen his face on photos here and there on Flickr. Still looking a little unsure of who I was, I told him I was the "local paparazzi." He smiled and a few others in the room chuckled, as he informed me that he loved my work. I sat down next to him and shook his hand, and then proceeded to put my Nikkor gear out on the table. A few people gathered around to see what I was giving away, as I felt like a celebrity of sorts. A gal behind the counter asked me if I had finally gone Nikon, silly Heidi "I'm actually joining the dark side finally, I'm going Canon." A few bewildered faces looked on as if I were a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat. As a lifelong Nikon fanatic, and now switching sides it was hard to do. Alas this is not the story of the man in this portrait, as I told Austin it only seemed reasonable to snap his photo for my 100 more strangers project.
He agreed, and once I had traded off the gear I found him at the counter waiting for me to claim my keep. After receiving my voucher, he asked me how I would like him to pose and where. I learned that Austin ha worked at the Camera Company for almost 2 years now, both as a sales consultant as well as an instructor for beginner photography classes. A couple quick adjustments to my settings and after firing only two frames, I knew that I had a worthy photo for inclusion in the project. The morning we left Creel, Chihuahua for Batopilas at the bottom of the Copper Canyon, we stopped first at a Tarahumara cave home about 15 km from Creel.
The elderly grandma and 10 of her kin live in a cave under a large rock overhang. The cave would be about 300 sq. feet. Simple life, wood for cooking, chickens for eggs and meat running around. Obviously of poor means but very welcoming and friendly family.

Friendly Siberian Husky was patiently waiting for his master outside the Mountain Equipment Co-op store on West Broadway, Vancouver BC. His glowing blue eyes were drawing a crowd of onlookers.
The Siberian Husky is a beautiful dog breed with a thick coat that comes in a multitude of colors and markings. Their blue or multi-colored eyes and striking facial masks only add to the appeal of this breed, which originated in Siberia. It is easy to see why many are drawn to the Siberian's wolf-like looks, but be aware that this athletic, intelligent dog can be independent and challenging for first-time dog owners. Huskies also put the "H" in Houdini and need a fenced yard that is sunk in the ground to prevent escapes.
