I hope you needed that smile today! 😊
This is one of those images that fully bring memories of that particular day. I returned to this location in the Northern NJ where few days before, I found and successfully photographed Blackburnian Warblers. What a day it was! With hopes of improving my shots from that day, I returned and stood for hours at this spot, with this composition in mind, certain that in any second one of the resident Blackburnian Warblers will drop down for a photo or two. Long story short, my dream shot never materialized but this cute little fella stopped by and gave me that precious smile😍 So yes, I drove 1.5 hour (one way) only to photograph a very common, in my area, rodent that day🙈 But to be honest, that scene made it all worth it! As it turned out, it is most likely one of my favorite photographs of a chipmunk thus far, as I rarely point my camera in their direction anymore. Funny thing is, I can even remember the smell of the forest that day. Aaah, the magic of photography!

The tops of his ears look a little ragged, perhaps due to a narrow escape from a coyote, or a run-in with a barb-wire fence.
The Black-tailed Jackrabbit is one of the largest, commonly found in the US and Mexico. I learned that the female tends to be larger than the male.

Yep! I'm modding Faline so she can wear antlers. Normally you could just add magnets inside the head but because the artist sculpted wonderful poseable ears there is a socket for those ears and so that area is thicker. It's a simple process to dremal a place for the magnets. I also added a place for unicorn horns so she can model those. *^*
I'm doing a trade with the lovely artist Raquel Celemente so it looks like Faline may receive a face-up and body blushing with her. I'm so excited! ❤️
I really like this picture of the male serval. He was sitting on a log and observing me, sometimes even mewing at me! What a cutie! :)

While walking down 10th Ave west of Commercial Drive in East Vancouver BC there were several cats sitting on "their" front steps doing what cats are meant to do - survey the passing scene (photographer), let the world know its their territory and to soak up the suns heat on a chilly morning. So, here is 1 of 3 samples.
So finally, after wandering the Centro streets of Tuxtla Chico, Chiapas for 90 minutes, our bus tour group is about to experience some local entertainment and a chocolate making demo on the stage in the Zocalo. These are two or the brightly dressed dancers.
Just a lovely little Grey Squirrel - Sciurus carolinensis - (I know they are classed as vermin, but they're still cute) munching on something yummy with the sun shining through the leaves on his ear and tail. Seen at Pennington Flash, Leigh.

The Zoo is currently home to male Andean bear Turbo. He was born in 2010 and arrived in 2013 from a zoo in Germany.
The Andean bear of South America is also known as the spectacled bear for the rings of white or light fur around its eyes, which can look like eyeglasses (or spectacles) against the rest of the bear’s black or dark brown fur. These markings often extend down the chest, giving each bear a unique appearance and helping researchers identify each bear by its "mug shot"! The markings also give the bear its scientific name: Tremarctos ornatus, or decorated bear.
As a mid-sized bear species, Andean bears are between four and six feet long and stand 2 to 3 feet at the shoulder. Males are 30 to 50 percent larger than the females.
Normally diurnal, very little is known about these bears in the wild, as they are shy and tend to avoid humans, making them hard to find for researchers to study! The bears are native to the Andean countries from Venezuela to Bolivia, living in forests, grasslands, and scrublands.
Andean bears are true arboreal bears, using their long, sharp front claws to climb and forage for food. They build leafy platforms in the trees, both in the wild and in zoos, which they may use to feed and sleep. Because of their tropical native climate, Andean bears do not hibernate and are active year-round. Their biggest threats come from humans, directly or indirectly.
Like too many animal species, wild Andean bears are vulnerable to extinction. The main risks to the bears are poaching, conflict between bears and humans when humans believe that the bears are a threat to their crops or livestock, and habitat loss. No one knows how many of these bears remain, but Andean bear habitat is being lost at a rate of approximately two to four percent per year, destroyed for mining operations, farming, and lumber; this loss is not slowing down.
The construction of new roads fragments bear habitat as well. As their habitat shrinks, bears may stray onto farmland, feeding on the crops that replaced their natural diet. Hunted in the past for their meat, fat, and body parts, Andean bears are now protected by international trade laws.
A Species Survival Plan through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is in place for this bear species, and San Diego Zoo Global has an Andean Bear Conservation Program. Its goal is to help increase scientific knowledge about these bears to advance their conservation, to train and mentor Peruvian conservationists, and to promote an understanding that the bears are integral parts of a healthy ecosystem essential for all and worthy of conservation.
One of the flagship species of national parks in the Andes, the Andean bear is an animal that people recognize easily and is used as the symbol of the parks. Local people in bear habitats are being educated about the benefits of preserving habitat for the bears for tourism, for the protection of water sources, and for the natural heritage of future generations.
San Diego Zoo works in partnership with the Spectacled Bear Conservation Society. This nonprofit organization has been working in the dry forests of northwestern Peru since 2006, building strong relationships with the local communities, and together we’re making incredible discoveries about bear biology. For example, we now believe that survival of the bear population in the dry forest of northwest Peru depends on the fruit of the sapote tree. It is apparent that it is necessary to conserve the sapote tree, which is critically endangered in Peru, and other natural resources for the benefit of the bears and all the other wildlife that share their special part of the world.

The morning we left Creel, Chihuahua for Batopilas at the bottom of the Copper Canyon, we stopped first at a Tarahumara cave home about 10 km from Creel.
A grandma and 10 of her kin live in a cave under a large rock overhang. This is one of her grandsons. The cave would be about 300 sq. feet. Simple life, wood for cooking, chickens for eggs and meat running around. Obviously of poor means but very welcoming and friendly family.
Mother and daughter attend the Cooperativa Eco Vegana de Zihuatanejo weekly Saturday morning gathering on the Paseo de Pescador in Centro Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico.

Tarahumara mothers also enjoy the company of their sons while selling craft products on the Urique Canyon rim trail in Mexico's Copper Canyon area.
Young boy dressed in traditional Inca clothing poses for the tourists - and Soles. We are on a G Adventures tour of the Sacred Valley of the Inca. First stop here is a city view point above Cuzco. We joined the tour late as the tour bus missed our hotel pick-up.
When we arrived at Mision de Satevo on the Batopilas River east of the town of Batopilas, our coming did not go unnoticed by the locals. A group of Tarahumara children came running over from a small collection of nearby housing.
So the kids were offered school supplies and a photo session ensued.

I stopped by the Camera Company today with a simple question, which is really no matter to this stranger story. Alas, I waited for a few minutes as they were assisting a man with 35mm film. I couldn't help but notice the beautiful camera and lens combination in his hand, and knew that at that instant I wanted to take his photograph. We all chatted for a brief moment on the benefit to the Nikon system being so interchangeable between digital and 35mm. After brief conversation he left, and I was able to ask my question; but I still wanted to capture the man with the magnificent camera!
As luck may have it, I did my usual up and down walk of State Street and when I reached the 100 Block we ran into one another again. This time I was able to make a little more conversation with him, introducing myself as Chris and he informed me that his name was Brent. Quickly learning the ins and outs of his photographic style, he told, me that he prefers film over digital. Though he did admit that shooting so much digital sometimes creates a false reality, as often he finds himself looking at the back of his 35mm SLR to review images. I explained to him my project of shooting the strangers of Madison, and asked if I could include him in the project. As most photographers do, he agreed and posed nicely for me against the glass windows on Overture Center for the Arts. Quickly adjusting my settings, I fired a few frames off; but he told me that I should take a photo of him with his camera to his eye. As often enough that is how his subjects see him, while I tried that I like this more classic pose.
I learned through our conversation that Brent recently made his first ebay purchase, in fact it was a mint Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens. While he didn't specify what version, I've owned a number of Nikkor 50mm an always had good luck with them. He acknowledged that he was a bit leery of the offer as it was being auctioned from Japan (home to Nikon at that) but four quick days later he had his new lens. He stated that it looked as good as new and came in the original box and everything, I hope that we cross paths again someday so I can take a look at the lens. Today he was shooting with a 135mm f2 AI-S lens, a tack sharp of a telephoto (1981-2005).
In parting I gave him a link to my Flickr page, so that he could sort out finding his photograph and story included for the 100 strangers project. He did inform me that I should consider a name change as "local paparazzi" could bring up all sorts of bad results. I assured him that I have a large following, and thus upon searching Google the first result is a link to my photostream. All the more reason to get business cards made out, but that's another step for another day!
