Located in the Norris Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park, this geyser has quite a history. Up until about 1985, it was considered a hot spring that occasionally erupted. In 1985, it became a perpetual spouter with a roar that could be heard all the way in the parking lot. Then in September, 1985, this thermal feature exploded. Parts of the vent were upended (the rocks you see immediately surrounding the feature), while other rocks were thrown over 200 feet.
Today, this geyser is more of a hot spring.
