Second shot today from the Star Casino deck is a deep dive into the centre of Southbank Parklands which line the southern bank of the Brisbane River opposite the city itself. Up until the 1970's, this area of South Brisbane was one to be avoided if possible consisting of old, mostly abandoned warehouses and wharves, sleazy pubs and miscellaneous other businesses all left over, it felt from the 1890's! These were swept away by a basic park by the late 1970's although in this view you can see a couple of heritage buildings that were saved.
Then came World Expo '88 that transformed the area and started a complete renewal of most of the surrounding suburb which is now home to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, a TAFE college and Griffith University, the ABC's Queensland base, The Exhibition Centre, the Queensland Museum, Library, Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art at the western end. These are mostly out of frame to the right. The pool(s) are basically the centre of Southbank Parklands. The line of low rise home units beyond the trees are bordered by Little Stanley and Grey Streets with the ground floor for the whole distance being a long line of very diverse restaurants.
Not many people on the beach the day this was shot back midweek in September . This spot on the river is about the centre of a large reverse S (from this side) as it meanders across its flood plain. And flood plain it literally is as both sides have been inundated to one degree or another in every major flood.
This area is served by South Brisbane railway station while the far eastern end including the Maritime Museum is adjacent to Southbank station.
I've had this shot of a coastal tidal pool in mind for a long time. On the morning of the shoot the wind was blowing a gale and the tide was rapidly on the way in. This is not the sharpest picture but i'm pleased with the overall look.

Happy Window Wednesday! My son, granddaughter & I visited the Seal Sanctuary at Courtown. I had noted there was a leisure complex beside the sanctuary, so they packed their togs & towels. Nana was happy to watch.
This is the public viewing area overlooking the various swimming pools (through the glass to the left). The benches were not very comfy, so I didn't sit & watch them swimming for very long.
Photo 85/100 : My 100x photos this year will all feature benches or seats.
Found in Gordon Falls Reserve Leura, NSW, Australia. Taken a day after heavy rains had visited the area. Already the flow had dropped off, but still a very lush environment.

Whitsand Pool
When you follow the tide down it can reveal wonderful shapes and rocky pools in the sand especially with the sky and light reflections
Emerald Pool, Black Sand Basin, Yellowstone.
Tricky to do justice to the pools and springs. Now I'm home I've been musing that a better way to capture them might be to put my camera on the end of a very long telescopic monopod, so the view is angled down, rather than horizontal.
Summer will end soon enough, and childhood as well.
~My avi in the right looks cute with the barberyumyum hair :3 I love toraji voom's hairs as always!

I was out for a wander in Soho yesterday and came across a small park that included a swimming pool (not terribly unusual here in NYC). Given that its winter and too cold to swim, the pool was drained and closed and had collected a fair number of leaves. The abandoned ladders and stainless siding seemed interesting to me, so I grabbed a few photos through the fence as best I could. These were the shots that stood out for me from the rest of the series.
Shot taken from the rooftop pool area of the Westin hotel in Austin, Texas. I got there early to get a people-free photo.
Champagne pool, New Zealand
It may look prehistoric, this 65m - diameter hot spring pool is in fact very "young", only 900 years. 50 000m3 of boiling water are bubbling in a 62m deep hole...
Newcastle Pool at dawn. The shoes suggested a zen-like image, so all distracting elements have been removed. Best on black. Upload size: 2560px wide
Chapman’s Pool is a rough-cut cove in the depths of the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. It’s not easy to get to, but this was the destination of this mornings adventure. Pretty difficult to navigate visiting somewhere for the first time in the dark (with some slippery moments!) but so worthwhile. Such an awesome little cove!
