The Luís I Bridge (Ponte Luís I) is a metal arch bridge that spans the Douro River between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. At the time of construction its span of 172 m was the longest of its type in the world.The top deck is now occupied by Line D of the Metro do Porto and a pedestrian walkway.
Eine historische Brücke (1886 erbaut) trägt die Strecke der hochmodernen Metro. Nur die Metro und Fussgänger dürfen die obere Etage der Brücke, 60 Meter über dem Fluss, benutzen. Die Autos haben hier nichts zu suchen. Sie müssen auf einem schmalen Übergang auf Flusshöhe über den Fluss fahren.
Die Brücke gehört zum Gebiet der historischen Altstadt Portos und daher auch seit 1996 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.

Living in Porto, we sometimes overlook the city's most famous landmarks. The Ribeira, with its multi-coloured cascade flowing down to the Douro. The river and its light (or its mist) and the iconic bridges.
These are familiar images to us, but they never cease to reinvent themselves over time and with the seasons.

Habitantes do Porto, por vezes esquecemo-nos de apreciar devidamente os pontos mais famosos da cidade. A Ribeira, com a sua cascata de múltiplas cores a descer até ao Douro. O rio e a sua luz (ou a sua névoa) e as icónicas pontes.
São imagens familiares para nós, mas nunca deixam de se reinventar ao longo dos tempos e das estações do ano.
