Denali Park Polychrome Pass in Spring of 2008

Polychrome pass is the highest point on the bus ride. An the one lane road barely fits the bus. On the way back, we passed another bus here, which required our bus to backup towards the edge. I just closed my eyes and said a little prayer.

Photos from a NP working trip to Denali National Park in mid June, 2010. Photos were taken from the park road and trail system, from the front gate to Denali Park road mile marker 45 (Polychrome valley rest stop).

I don't normally think of Gothic as startlingly realistic. That's where I'm wrong, see.

Polychrome Pass gets its name from the colourful volcanic rocks that you can see that were formed about 65 million years ago as pressure from the pacific tectonic plate sliding under the continental shelf forced magma to the surface.
