I love these gravel bars: they made hiking so much easier and safer in bear country: I was worried that we'd have to bush-whack and would come across a bear un-awares: a bad situation for all involved.
The approaching storm provided high level clouds formed by the wind which the rising sun gave an unuusal quality to the light.

Outstanding in the old part is the Santa María Parish Church, a Romanesque construction from the 11th-12th centuries, whose bell tower is a somewhat later addition (13th-14th centuries). The number and quality of its paintings are outstanding. Also worthy of mention is the Gothic church of Sant Joan (end of the 14th century), along with two civil buildings - Çò de Paulet House and Portolá House, both from the 16th century.
On the edge of arties there are some baths with waters rich in sulphur and two springs. In the village you will also find an open-air recreation area, home to two bears that live in a protected, marked area. For fishing lovers, the Garona River and the lakes around the village are ideal.
