This sign points to Howse River and Howse Pass that was named in the honour of Joseph Howse by David Thompson in 1814 because Joseph Howse was in this area in 1810 and tried to locate a pass which would lead him and his men through the Rockies to British Columbia. He did make it through however not all of his men made it back alive with him.
