Mick Rock: Live in Los Angeles show at the Lo-Fi Gallery on Fairfax tonite. Pointer Sisters at the London Palladium 1973.
PINTO is a pretty Pointer/Pit (maybe with some Boston Terrier in the mix?) who’s 5-6 months old. She’s a friendly, energetic, playful girl with lots of “zip”! Though she’s very active, she’s also quite gentle, and though she’s very enthusiastic about her toys and balls!), she can also settle and pay attention nicely. She likes to play (energetically!) with other dogs.
Pinto will be a wonderful companion for an active, committed family who’ll give her the attention and training all puppies need.
Pinto lives in Kennel 36.

A few people on Facebook's GBS group were asking how the laser pointer worked. This is the very rough version; I've made a much better version and donated two of them to the hospital, since.
An interesting VW I saw in San Diego. It is a VW Pointer, and appears to be a Mexican model, since this is not a US production model. Plus it has Mexi plates :)
I got tired of trying to point out little tiny critters to my dive buddies using a flashlight beam. So, I designed and constructed an underwater laser pointer.
The housing is standard PVC. The front endcap has a disc of plexi slilconed into it. The body tube buts up against the silicone, and is PCV-glued into the endcap. The rear endcap is a standard screw fitting. I tested it to 60 feet deep with nothing but teflon tape and there were no leaks, but I put some silicone in the threads for good measure (I can use strap wrenches to open it up when I need to change batteries).
For the guts, I used a higher-end laser pointer (The dollar-store crap is just too weak for underwater use). I removed the laser module and inserted it into a smaller-diameter PVC tube as a chassis, and replaced with momentary pushbutton switch with magnetic reed switch, glued into a slot in the inner PVC.
I salvaged a battery holder from an LED flashlight that holds 3xAAA batteries, and glued this to the back of the inner PVC. This has the same voltage as the 3xLR44s that were in it initially, while ensuring lots more mAH of power.
Before the rear endcap was put in place, a section of larger PVC with a section removed to allow it to flex was fitted with a rare-earth magnet, and the location of the reed switch was noted with permenant marker on the body tube. Turning the ring with the magnet turns the unit on and off. Thus far, I've had it down to 100+ feet, and no leaks!
This laser pointer was turned from a length of aluminium tube for the body and two lengths of solid rod for the end cap and diode holder at the front. 4 AA batteries, wired to give 3v, powers the green 75mw diode. Everything's held in place with grub screws. This took a couple of evenings work to turn up. Ended up fairly heavy and very solid :)

Robin - the second English Pointer in my life - is a permanent resident at Dogs Hope. She is one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen, but she was turned in to the animal shelter. She was pretty active as a puppy. Be aware of what dogs need before you adopt; but do adopt your next pet.
