A night hike led me to this view of the sandstone formations at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park. In the gulch the eroded ground was very hard as if packed by a steam roller. The mounds of sandstone are off limits to hiking. So with respect to the land, I snapped some panoramas from the gulch. The moon wasn't due out for another 2.5 to 3 hours, and the wind was picking up. It was getting colder and I was getting hungry.
A 5 shot panorama of the foreground with a 12mm ultra wide lens, and 10 shot panorama of the night sky shot at 28mm (DX) lens. The sky was shot at Mojave National Preserve in April 2017. The main foreground was shot in December 2015. Edited in Lightroom, auto stitched in Microsoft ICE, and layered in Corel Paintshop.
On a clear night in Death Valley a lot of stars appear after twilight. Even in Dec when most of the Milky Way is below the horizon, it's sill visible going across the sky.
Here's a link to my Death Valley Video:
Thanks for viewing.
SOO had a number of RS1's but most were gone in the 60's. A handful survived into the 70's with the last one being retired in June 1975. Paul Hunnell shot 353 at Stevens Point on April 4, 1972. It was retired and scrapped in June 1974. Chuck Schwesinger collection..

Sunderland Point is a small village in the marshland to the south of Lancaster that lies on a windswept peninsula between the River Lune and Morecambe Bay. It was originally a port for cotton and other ships, but its use declined as other nearby ports opened up.
Point Arena Light is a lighthouse in Mendocino County, California, two miles north of Point Arena. It is approximately 130 miles north of San Francisco, in the Fort Point Group of lighthouses. The lighthouse features a small museum and gift shop. Guided tours of the light station as well as self-guided tours of the grounds are available daily. The original lighthouse, built in 1876, was heavily damaged by the San Francisco earthquake in 1906, and had to be demolished. It was subsequently rebuilt, and the current lighthouse began operation in 1908. It is 115 feet tall, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Another shot of Fifty Point Pier from the archives. I posted a very similar scene with the wooden pier/pegs thawing but used a hard edge GND filter along with the Big Stopper and just lifting the GND up slightly to allow some more darker shades in the sky. Found myself on higher patches of ice to shoot with a 135mm from afar. A weird composition but it worked :P
Came back a week or so later, the place as completely covered with snow.
I'll be catching up big time since I've been MIA from flickr. I have to thank the old and new contacts that still stayed in touch with me all this time :)
Enjoy the first week of October!
The Echo Point Hut was built by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service in 1962. Sitting in the final stages of the 82 km (51 mi) Overland Track between Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair the often bypassed wooden hut remains in service in its original state and sleeps 8 people. The way the fog took over today was unreal.. I'll show you what I mean in some of the later photos or maybe this had something to do with it?
" For the romantically-inclined, there are several legends attached to the lighthouse. Most famous is that of the ghost lady who, having hurled herself into the same sea that took her sailor sweetheart, walks the tower every night awaiting his return. Explanations that the phantom is caused by reflections from the huge lens have done little to dissuade lovers from joining the lady in her somber watch."
Point Atkinson Lighthouse is a lighthouse erected on Point Atkinson, a headland in southwestern British Columbia named by Captain George Vancouver in 1792, when he was exploring the Pacific Northwest in the ship Discovery.
As I walked around the lake this Autumn leaf, on the London Plane tree on the water's edge, was backlit in the morning light and caught my eye.
A few of my pure graphite sticks, with a sneak peek of a pencil 😊
I love 'painting' with just carbon ... from pure carbon (charcoal) through pure graphite to pencils, which are softer as the graphite is mixed with some clay. You can get tones from the lightest bright dusting, to the pure light-absorbing charcoal ...more subtle than anything I can get with a camera!
This shot fills the whole 3" width.
For the Macro Monday challenge "carbon"

On the National Register of Historical Place. This lighthouse is located between the lighthouse at Point Loma in San Diego and Point Conception 50 miles W of Santa Barbara.
Met up with Adam Randell at Point Cartwright. We had hoped for a few more clouds but maybe next time. There are some amazing rock formations on the headland.
To make a point, I will never agree with racial or religious intolerance (for any race or religion). The white world is quick to judge Muslims even though white people have committed many heinous crimes themselves. And, aren't Muslims mothers too? Where has our humanity gone? When we are able to have honest conversations with ourselves and others about these things, we are ready to make a positive change.
Do no harm in this world to others and also, if you can, do no harm to animals. Enough has been done already.

The Georgina Point Lighthouse (also known as the Active Pass Lighthouse) sits at the Northern tip of Mayne Island on Georgia Strait at the entrance to Active Pass, a channel between Mayne and Galiano Island (a main ferry route from the Vancouver Area to the Victoria Area). The original light station was established in 1885, however the current light was built in 1940. The lighthouse was decomissioned in 1969. It is currently on part of the Parks Canada Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Photos taken on July 28, 2020 from a B.C. Ferry passing by.
At the grand old age of 40 something, I think I may well have cracked this public speaking malarkey! Usually dissolve in a puddle of nerves, but felt something weirdly close to enjoyment yesterday afternoon. How did that happen?
A quick stop off at the Point of Ayr lighthouse a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty uninspired until my models kindly posed for me 😁
A mosaic of 9 wide angle images were required to capture this scene.
It shows a fellow night sky photographer imaging the Milky Way, Zodiacal Light and Aurora, in the fantastically dark skies at Strathy Point.
Point Reyes Lighthouse, standing tall against California's rugged coastline. With its classic white and red stripes, it contrasts with the stormy sky. Surrounded by lush greenery and wildflowers, a winding path leads to the lighthouse, hinting at a challenging journey. The vast Pacific Ocean stretches into the horizon, emphasizing the lighthouse's role as a guiding beacon. The scene evokes a sense of isolation and natural beauty, with mist adding mystery and adventure. Steps leading down to the lighthouse add depth and perspective.
