I tried one shot last Saturday before leaving for Mount Baldy. I wanted to use the pods that were left from an earlier shot before they dried out.
It turned out fine.
Nothing much going on today as my friendly cold is peaking. Why do they call it a cold?
Cheers.

The sweet pod saddle bag with a few alterations to make it just an everyday messenger bag

These mature pods have ripe seeds, dark brown and much harder. They look like rich dark chocolate drops. The papery wrapping is a much darker colour too.
Compare this with a young pod, not much different from ones still on the tree.

Imagínate el poder que tienen esos conjuntos de pequeños movimientos que poco a poco nos hacen avanzar.
The open seed pods of Vriesea petropolitana, a bromeliad from Brazil. This species is possibly now a synonym of Vriesea hetrostachys.
This green pod makes a great portable substitute for a tripod. I often mount it on a chairback when photographing breakfast at a location away from home. The bean-bag base lets me tilt it in just the right direction. This allows me to shoot with available light at vefry slow shutter speeds. I use this in conjunction with the anti-shock feature on my Olympus E-3. this delays the shutter for a second after I press the shutter release button, so the movement of my hand doesn't affect the clarity of the exposure.
It comes in six models, named after colors. The green pod seems just right for my E-3.

Highlight of our trip.
Our whale watching two hour tour was seeing the usual, whakle at a great distance, coing up for air and disappearing just as you located them. Then the incredible happened. A pod of orcas approached our boat head on, five or 6 abreast. The passed the boat quickly, then they returned to sim along side the boat for a good half hour. Diving under it and coming up on the other side. Putting on a real show for us.
Our tour guide had his camera out...and when that happens you know you are skiing something special. We stayed out an hour longer than scheduled to enjoy this unexpected treat.
The orcas were in te area to feed on the fish which were very plentiful.
Wiki: The killer whale or orca (Orcinus orca) is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member. Killer whales have a diverse diet, although individual populations often specialize in particular types of prey. Some feed exclusively on fish, while others hunt marine mammals such as seals and dolphins. Killer whales are apex predators - they have no predators.
Killer whales are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal family groups (pods) which are the most stable of any animal species. Their sophisticated hunting techniques and vocal behaviours, which are often specific to a particular group and passed across generations, have been described as manifestations of animal culture.
