19th century copper weathervane on display in the American Art gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. November 28, 2014

I traveled to Baltimore to see this much revered artist's work at the Baltimore Museum of Art. After three hours of absorbing myself in this vast exhibit, I sat in one of the galleries to sketch. "painting is a release from emotion," Joan Mitchell. May 12, 2022

We drove east from Prescott to Mingus Mountain to hike on the mountain ridge. Hang gliders (although none on this day) soar from this 7815 foot elevation to the Cottonwood airport. June 30, 2013

Sketches of trees in different parks in Davis, California. These were done during my walk. Sketches are done on small tan sketchbook with Micron pen 01 and light grey and white gel pens.

A bouquet of Asian lilies dropped its petals. The colors faded quickly. The forms dried and twisted. Before their demise, I painted. August 3, 2025

This was the lead-up sketch to a watercolor flic.kr/p/p9fxzS I did of this 5-fingered root that I got at the Cedar Falls, Iowa Saturday Farmer's Market. Spetember 26, 2014

Was shopping for a book at Kinokuniya Bookstore at KLCC today when I saw the Moleskine planners and desktop calendars for next year are already on sale. So I picked up a hard cover pocket size daily planner for myself. It comes with two cover versions – soft and hard. This year I am using a soft cover planner and for a change I decided to get a hard cover one. It comes with a useful address book insert that is thin enough to be slotted into the expandable inner pocket.

It is only September and I have already got this 2010 planner for myself. It means I am going to continue doing my illustrative journaling for next year. Exciting! :D

Mary Huber is retiring as director of the Hearst Center for the Arts here in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Tonight was the party. March 26, 2013

Today, I went to Cup of Joe, one of the few coffee shops in Cedar Falls!!! This is something I don't often do. OK, I didn't have coffee. I had tea, served in a French press. I also had a lemon macaroon which was so crumbly a fork was supplied. And I initiated a brand new pocket-size Moleskine. I felt like a true Urban Sketcher! January 19, 2013

Outside the Donald Trump rally on the University of Northern Iowa campus, demonstrators carried placards and chanted, "Bigots Can't Be President". January 12, 2016. Here is my full coverage of this rally www.urbansketchers.org/2016/01/trump.html

Plakat for beat-arrangementet ”Komsammen” i Skovlundehallen, 1970.

We rented an adobe house for a week in the Tucson Foothills near the Saguaro National Park. There an adobe wall surrounding the house. Inside the wall was an exquisite cactus garden. Here 2 totem pole cactuses. Beyond, the native, majestic saguaro cactuses grew in profusion. It takes 75 years for a saguaro to start growing arms. April 17, 2013

The Iowa Democratic Caucus was February 3rd. Each candidate's supporters gathered in a section of the elementary school gym. By show of hands and a paper ballot, the number of delegates to the county convention were determined. In Ward 1 Precinct 3, Saunders received 7 delegates, Warren 4, Buttigieg 4.

Heron, egret and ibis as observed from the 2 story blind on the edge of Myrtle Pond. The naturalists are more than willing to take visitors to wherever they want to go on the island via pickup truck. But I choose to bike even though the unpaved roads on the north end of the island are rife with tree roots and soft sand (not as hard packed as the road out to the beach). I was amply rewarded by wildlife sightings. December 8, 2013

I had fallen in love with this high-relief angel the last time I was here 16 years ago. What a delight to sit in a pew and spend a leisurely interlude sketching it. April 18, 2013

Kimme sent me TEN packs of Polaroid film today... how cool is that. So, I'm officially on 'roids. My grandmother absolutely loved her Polaroid and used it often. She was the family photographer.

This shot was done with a shutter timer and a lot timing. Only post work is cropping and levels. Here is one with all ten packs.

Polaroid is dying. It's a shame too. I love the instant gratification of the prints. Maybe their pocket-sized printer will take off.

The view from Stigen farm in the Aurlandsfjord. The house is inhabited by a family during the summer months but they live elsewhere in wintertime. The name Stigen means ladder in english and the place has this name because that in the old days they had to use a ladder in order to climb up here from the fjord.

My litte pocketsized camera has recently died and I'm wondering if anyone has some advice of what camera to buy. I think i need something pocketsized because the 50D is to huge to carry round everywhere.

The vacant lot across the street from my backyard has been a source of inspiration ever since the house that once was there was demolished. Now, the owner uses it to store seldom used or junked vehicles--like a repurposed old school bus, a truck loaded with mouldering tarpaper shingles, and now an old boat.

I've been looking for a sightline to draw this for a few days. I tried this one in my pocket-size Moleskine in the morning. Then went back for another larger sketch in the afternoon. flic.kr/p/gfMFsi September 29, 2013

A trip to the Oakland Zoo.The Hamadryas Baboons are native to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

When we arrived, their outside compound was empty, The zookeeper was scattering food treats. Some of the food was placed in red balls with a holes. Then the baboons--appartently 13 (adults and youngsters)) were let in. All scurried about, retrieving the food. The individual in the upper right was holding one of the food balls. March 3, 2025

Layover at Ronald Reagan National Airport--we were on our way to Bangor, Maine, to spend 10 days on the Downeast coast. August 23, 2014.

The Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial: prominent landmarks are seen beyond the airport tarmac. There were many children flying home before the start of school. I always enjoy when children come and look over my shoulder while I'm sketching.

I had spotted this antique motorcycle alongside a white-washed fence in a back- alley of my Cedar Falls, Iowa neighborhood this past winter. When I returned this Spring, it wasn't there. Fortunately, the man next door knew the owner had moved it into his yard, leaning it against the detached garage, seen only from the front of the house. I asked the owner if I could come into his yard to sketch it. I never knew Harley's were once made in Italy. But then again, I'm no motorcycle buff. The neon beer signs in the garage windows were a bonus. This was the 1st of two I drew. May 19, 2015
