Please forgive me for my youthful contribution to the climate crisis. Then a college student, I took this Kodachrome slide during summertime employment in August 1965 as a pipeline welder helper. I was working on J. Ray McDermott Derrick Barge 5 (DB5), a 300-feet-long (91,4 meters), built-in-1949 behemoth with a crane that could hoist 500 tons (453.6 metric tons) and below-deck living quarters for 180 workers.
We were laying pipeline between Gulf of Mexico oilfield platforms that were 30-40 miles offshore, south of Morgan City, Louisiana, USA. Angling diagonally across this scene is a structure that gradually eases the recently added section of pipeline to the sea bottom. Projecting out into the water like a gently drooping scorpion tail, it was called a "stinger."
Please note near the tugboat two workers standing on the stinger's parallel pontoons.
And, on the catwalk between structures, four off-duty workers taking in the sunset.

I decided to stop my latest 365 project. It's not that I can't do it: the truth is that there's just too much crap going on in my life right now to give too many fucks about doing it.

Please help all those in Ike's path! My sister and nephew are in the middle of this horrible storm. They lost power at about 2 am Saturday morning and lost telephone around 3:30 am. I have not been able to get in touch wih them since and I have no idea what is going on. I am worried sick. They don't have cell phones for whatever reason and it isn't really important why not right now. I only pray that they are safe. All of the Houston/Galveston areas are getting hammered by Ike and it appears there is still quite a bit of time before all of this has passed. It is 7:00 am central time and according to the weather channel it is still very bad. Lots of water and wind. Please, Lord, hear my prayers and the prayers of all.
I am working today and tomorrow...so will be visiting as much as I can whenever I get a break.

Beelitz Heilstätten was a lung sanatoriums, built between 1898 and 1930 by the Berlin State Insurance Institution. It is one of the largest hospital complexes in the Berlin area and consists of an ensemble of 60 buildings on a total area of approximately 200 ha.
This image is from the house C of the sanatorium for men and is located south of the railroad station. Unfortunately, all buildings are nearly empty meanwhile.
